What Did Baker Mayfield Personally Cut From The Quarterback Series?

Lost in Baker Mayfield’s Thursday rant about the indecency of the Buccaneers’ contract-extension offer was Mayfield talking about Quarterback on Netflix, in which he played a starring role this summer.
Before the series release in mid-July, Mayfield said he trusted executive producer Peyton Manning and had turned down appearing on Quarterback in past years. What Mayfield didn’t say is that he had final approval of what would be seen publicly.
Mayfield did have that control, and he explained Thursday how he wanted to be “portrayed,” which is a thought-provoking word choice.
“I didn’t watch the full series,” Mayfield said, referring to Quarterback co-stars Joe Flacco, Jayden Daniels and Cam Ward. “They sent all the clips of us in it just so I could give the final okay.
“Apologies to the families with little kiddos because the language on there is actually not very suited for them. I might be a little angry elf on the field every once in a while, so that’s probably the part that I do regret a little bit, but that’s the fire on the field, unfortunately, that comes out on TV. But yeah, I wanted to portray that I’m all ball. You can say what you want in the media. You can say I’m cocky and whatever, but it’s all ball. I love my teammates. I love this game, and I love playing it.”
Joe followed up to ask Mayfield if he rejected any of the final clips sent his way for approval.
“There’s a few things,” Mayfield replied.
Many Bucs fans who watched Quarterback wondered why the series ignored fallout from the Bucs’ crushing loss to the Falcons in December and the postgame freakout by Todd Bowles, as well as the season-crushing Miami upset win against the Bucs two weeks later.

Think most people would probably want to review footage like that to see how you’re going to be potrayed. Curious if the other QB’s had that oppt as well.

I’m done with the baker overhype, he’s not a franchise qb but since licht can’t scout and evaluate QBs after 12 years we’ll be stuck with the overhype and infatuation for a couple more years probably I just thought after nine years it would be obvious he’s mediocre but like always it ain’t poor like bakers fault it just nevew evew is.

What exactly is a franchise QB? A guy who wins every game by himself? A guy who make zero mistakes? A guy who stops every opposing offense from scoring on 3rd and 28?

I’m with you I keep hearing people say he is a franchise qb. 40 plus tds 4000 plus yards one the division 2 out of 3 years. Is a leader of men guys rally around him. Every qb throws interceptions in the 4th quarter when they are trying to come back. You have to take more chances because you have to score. That’s how a lot of the games are lost in the nfl. A qb throwing a pick while trying to come back. I think fans just go over board with there teams qb because they watch every snap of every game. But all qbs throws interceptions them for every team. People here act like it’s just baker thing. So again someone saying baker isn’t a franchise qb. Please first tell me what there definition of a franchise qb is.

OK hear me out. We are living in a real life “Major League” movie. The owners are trying to lose, making unpopular contract decision with popular players. Than going to ask the county for 2 billion dollars for a new stadium. When it fails, the Glazers move to Oklahoma City, when they give them 5 billion. Just remember when this happens, tell Ira to give me credit for the story.

Let’s face it, there are many people, a lot in fact, on this site that lack the objectivity to be able to fairly evaluate Mayfield as a quarterback playing the game on the field. That’s because they view him as a loud mouth, cocky sob and he just simply rubs them the wrong way. It truly would not matter how he performs statistically or even if the Bucs won a Super Bowl, they would still hate his guts and would look for reasons to diminish any accomplishment he might have. I am a Baker fan and I acknowledge that he does come across that way. I would also add that he lacks a filter sometimes. On the other hand, there is the Baker that has a heart of gold especially when it come to children, the elderly and those less fortunate. I think that’s the Baker his teammates love. It’s an exercise in futility to debate his merits as a quarterback on the field with those that have their mind made up that he’s trash. His biggest fans think he’s right up there with the very best. His biggest detractors think he’s is middling at best and maybe not even that. Naturally, the truth is somewhere in between.

I thought one of the funnier parts was Baker perched up on his kitchen counter watching Saints/Falcons on the small kitchen TV because the living room wasn’t working. Also enjoyed how invested in Tampa Bay he is, cursing in front of his kid because the Lightening gave a goal. Can we lock him up for 3 years? Would he take that?

Baker absolutely said nothing wrong in that press conference. Perfectly ok to say he felt disappointed and even a little disrespected which was exactly what he said. Also it’s ok to say he’s not going to talk about it anymore. Where he crossed the line and showed his lack of a filter and wisdom is when he started talking about how Tristen had to hold in before he got his contract and then also bringing up Vita’s situation.That’s what pissed off the organization. It’s as if he was painting them with a broad brush as cheapskates and weasels. That may or may not be true but that should not have been said publicly by him. That helps no one.

The only TRUE measure’s of a Quarterback are these:
# of TDs thrown
# of Yards passing.
EVERYTHING else is a team stat… # of playoff wins, # of Super Bowl wins, etc. No One disputes that Dan Marino is one of the greatest QBs ever. Yet he never won a Super Bowl, and his record in playoffs was 8-10.
In the past 4 years, BAKER MAYFIELD is #2 in TDs thrown, and #3 in Yards Passing. NOT Patrick Mahomes, NOT Lamar Jackson, NOT Josh Allen… nor any of the other QBs. No other QB is ranked as high in BOTH of those stats over the past 4 years.

Baker will be able to measure himself against how he wants to be viewed week one. Can he out duel Burrow? He’ll need to. Tough schedule against some of the best. We’ll all know exactly what he’s worth seasons end. Good for the Bucs making him earn it.

All they can do is quote stats he’s 1st in this, 3rd in that.
What did he do down the stretch run when we needed him to elevate and beat an inferior team. Yeah, he didn’t want that out there.

What can we possibly find out about him after this upcoming season that we don’t already know? Let’s say he played at a c+ to a b grade under Dave Canales. Let’s say he played at a b+ to an A grade under Liam Cohen. Let’s say he played at a b+ to A level in the first half of 2025, then at a D level in the second half of 2025. Any extenuating circumstances that existed in any of those seasons should be well known to anyone that was paying attention while watching the games. If you’re objective you should already know what he’s worth. Perhaps you want to kick the can down the road a little bit more with the hope that everything will implode so that you can then say with certainty that he plain and simple sucks.

I guess every other “good “ QB would have done much better in those last 8 games than Baker did. He at one point was throwing to Garret Green, Tez , Adam Johnson and injured EE. Not to mention (your words not mine) a bad TE in Otton.
Oh. Did we mention bad rookie OC ( 3rd one in 3 years but that’s probably Bakers fault too). A head coach who despises actually playing aggressively on offense.
Yep, it all adds up to how bad Baker is despite the stats.

What I saw Baker say in his kitchen at the end of the last show was “Eff the Saints”. That’s what I feel about every team on the schedule this year. Eff em all!!
