Baker Mayfield: Bucs Offered Him Two More Years At Less Than $50 Million Annually
July 30th, 2026Baker Mayfield wants to be in the large $50 million-per-year quarterback club. Per Mayfield, the Bucs don’t want to put him there.
Ego is a huge component of NFL life. No, Joe isn’t talking about local media droobs. Joe is referring to players, coaches, owners and executives.
Bucs fans who care about the leaguewide salaries of quarterbacks know Mayfield is a legit $50 million-per-year guy but he’ll earn $40 million in 2026, the last year of his contract.
Mayfield seems appalled that the Bucs value him in a lesser class. He teed off about it today before Joe and assembled media. He also provided more intimate contract details, aka numbers, to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler at Bucs training camp practice today. (See the Tweet below).
The Bucs are playing with fire here as it relates to Mayfield’s contract for 2027. They could get burned, or the fire could be extinguished.
Mayfield did acknowledge today that if the Bucs talk to his agent, that’s fine with him. But he personally has shut down any talks.
Baker Mayfield tells ESPN the Bucs offered him a two-year deal, which was ‘probably the most disappointing’ part. Wanted long-term commitment.
Added Bucs were ‘pretty far’ from $50+M per club, which he wanted to enter.

Run Baker Run !
Insulting!
July 30th, 2026 at 11:57 am
The Tank is on. Top 5 pick in the 2027 draft. Hopefully Jason and Todd are not around to mess it up.
July 30th, 2026 at 11:58 am
Even better news. Single game club seats will be under $35.00 each
July 30th, 2026 at 11:59 am
Welp, looks like we’ll let it play out now….I was thinking 4/52. QB’s will just get more expensive each year. 52 sounds like a lot this year, but wont if he’s still playing at a high level 2 and 3 years from now….if we make the playoffs this year, its gonna be 60….alrighty then.
July 30th, 2026 at 11:59 am
I don’t understand why they don’t just trade him? They don’t want him back. They’re not concerned with anything other than tanking. So, cut the chord and get yourself a top 5 pick in 2027. Be all in.
July 30th, 2026 at 11:59 am
I predicted the short term contract. I mean they only offered ME 2 years which worked in his favor. Yes The Bucs or someone else is going to pay Baker 50 million plus that is the market, sorry Glazers. Pay him 55 million and 2 years , I bet he takes that. Then he can bail out like ME if things are going South
July 30th, 2026 at 12:00 pm
2 sides to every negotiation Baker-so what were your demands since you are so eager to share?
July 30th, 2026 at 12:00 pm
Didn’t he say in the presser it’s not about the money? So which one is it?
July 30th, 2026 at 12:03 pm
The only hard one above $50m to explain is Brock. The Cowboys are dumb and Trevor and Jordan were both young with huge upside when signed. Baker is on his 4th team and on the wrong side of 30 with a play style that may not hold up to injurez. He should take 2 at $48 and call it a day.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:04 pm
Tried to explain to everyone here that Bucs held all the cards and they still do. Franchise tag QB next year is 48-49 mil-so ball out Bake and we will tag you.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:04 pm
I thought he’d be focused on football right now. Lol…thats the team first leader yall are trying to sell to sane Bucs fans. He’s been inconsistent his whole career and wants more than 2 years at $50+ mil? 🤣 A for effort I guess. You know if another team wanted him, they could offer more right now. But they won’t.
Baker is gonna have to “settle” for $40 million this season which is a gift.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:04 pm
Pretty much every impartial opinion I’ve seen agreed that Baker should expect a contract in the low to mid 50s. Looks like the breakdown was on the offer side, not the non-acceptance. If the Bucs don’t really want to keep Baker, which is certainly their prerogative, then that’s fine. If they do, though, it’s an unforced error.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:05 pm
Matt Sims just said the Bucs have a dang good QB , a great leader who the guys follow , said having Baker locked in is a recruiting plus for a new coach,, talked about 15 min on him,, bottom line was pay him his 50 million and be done w it (he wasn’t overly excited about ZRs offense last year though)
July 30th, 2026 at 12:05 pm
I go with Todd (above) on this — where has Baker and his agent been with their numbers.
Put it out there!
July 30th, 2026 at 12:06 pm
The franchise tag isn’t happening because it carries an $80M cap hit. If they didn’t want to pay him $50M per season, they’re not running the risk of completely blowing up their salary cap in 2027 even if the franchise tag is only for a year.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:07 pm
That’s not a franchise QB offer. Seems like there’s a plan in place for next year already: let Tomlin pick his QB. I’m going to enjoy watching Baker and Bowles do their best to thwart it. Of course Baker just has to be good enough to get a reunion in Jacksonville not great. Stay healthy Bake!
July 30th, 2026 at 12:07 pm
The QB market is what it is. Leave it to the Glazers to think they can re-set it. When he hits free agency next year, he’ll get the $50M+ either from someone else.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:11 pm
What an insult to Baker. He is so out of here.
I’m glad he told us what’s what. I’m sure fat ass Licht is furious. And if the Glazers are behind this, they are going to be furious with Baker. If Licht did this on his own, they will be furious with Licht.
2026 unraveled before it ever started. As Reginald Dwight once sang, “And love lies bleeding in my hand”
July 30th, 2026 at 12:11 pm
The offer was essentially the status quo: current contract plus franchise tag next year. Baker getting guaranteed the franchise tag money now was the only upside. Bucs knew Baker would bet on himself in that situation.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:12 pm
What an insult to Baker. He is so out of here.

I cancelled my season passes a couple weeks ago because I feel a disaster looming, but I will be there for ‘26
July 30th, 2026 at 12:14 pm
Shameful and embarrassing for the ownership and front office…
July 30th, 2026 at 12:14 pm
Look over to the Falcons, Bijan is sitting out awaiting contract negotiations, while Detroit has Gibbs not participating in trading camp, also waiting for new contracts. So this is the norm these days from what I see reported. I feel it to be so unfair Baker had to play hurt continuously last season. No plausible backup to take over. Understand his frustrations.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:15 pm
I kept saying that he want $50+ per season and ppl kept saying, how do you know? Its obvious! Baker loves Baker!
And since he’s this top flight QB that has earned that type of money we’ll see it during TC and this season. Right?
No excuses!
July 30th, 2026 at 12:15 pm
Like I said in the other thread, this is self-inflicted insanity and makes me not want to support the team. I want a team that wins and we cannot win without a QB. 4 years at 53 ought to do it.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:16 pm
NO NJ
The only cap hit on a franchise tag is the amount of the salary-That’s it.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:17 pm
I was at practice today he threw a pick 6 to number 30. Let him go.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:18 pm
Yeah, but Baker has a void year, doesn’t he? $30M? Pretty sure that gets added to whatever the franchise tag is worth.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:19 pm
Bee, no, other teams cannot offer him more now. He is under contract for 2026-2027 which is his last year of the last contract. 40 million. Fair or not fair he signed and agreed to the contract. He just has to play well and not get injured to get him 3+ years and 50$ million plus from someone. May not be the Bucs.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:20 pm
50 million means Baker loves Baker?? I think 60million would mean Baker loves Baker ,, 50 Million is about average for the good QBs(not elite, just good), 50 million 4 years is totally fair to both sides
July 30th, 2026 at 12:25 pm
J light is a lying a**hole and a moron
July 30th, 2026 at 12:27 pm
Bee, you’re talking about the QB that has the second most TD’s in the league over the past two years, and is in the top 15 (I believe top 11 or 12) in QBR, asking for top 12 money.
“Baker loves Baker” implies that he’s making unreasonable demands. He’s just asking to make the same as the low end of that top 10-12 money. If it truly was “Baker loves Baker,” he’d be (accurately) pointing out that he’s been outperforming Mahomes for the past couple of years and demanding Mahomes money.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:27 pm
Jalen Hurts-51 mil
Lamar Jackson-52 mil
Justin Herbert-52.5 mil
So Baker wants to get paid like all of the above???
No freaking way
July 30th, 2026 at 12:28 pm
All I can say is if he leaves then bring Winston back and draft a QB next year.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:30 pm
I pray that Baker balls out this year without a contract, and it winds up costing the Bucs an additional $30 Million over three years. AND A 2-YEAR CONTRACT? What a joke.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:30 pm
I just don’t see how 3-4 years at $50 mill per isn’t fair for both sides nor a huge bump in salary
I understand if Baker is demanding more like $60 mil, than no way after the end to last season and play (injury or not), but I think $50 mil is a fair number for both.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:33 pm
I’d gladly be disrespected at $40/m a year. Especially after being a low dollar free agent 3 years ago. Leave $10m on the table to build a team – the Brady way.
Aside from the Coen year, he’s been a middle of the pack QB. Whatever happened to shutting your mouth and being happy with what you have?
July 30th, 2026 at 12:34 pm
Lamar Jackson-52 mil
Justin Herbert-52.5 mil
So Baker wants to get paid like all of the above???
No freaking way
How many SB have these 2 ever won?
July 30th, 2026 at 12:41 pm
Well, I was wrong. I believed he’d get 3 years 50m. Sounds like they offered Daniel jones contract. It’s shrewd. It’s smart , from the glazer side. You get baker for 40m this year, 50m next year ( tag) . At 33, who knows how his body holds up? Still, a possibility exists he gets that 3 year deal.

I don’t get some people’s obsession with Mike Tomlin. Heck no – if Todd is fired, the absolute LAST THING the Glazers need to do is bring in another defensive minded head coach. No thank you on Tomlin. Grossly overrated.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:43 pm
Baker is showing us the true baker lol…immature!!!!
Joes dont feel so confident baker will be here in 2027 anymore!!!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!

Joe Says:
The Bucs are playing with fire here as it relates to Mayfield’s contract for 2027. They could get burned,
…………………………………………………………………………….
Yes!! This organization would be set back tremendously if we lose a 28-26 QB who finished last season 2-7. But forget that! Let just pay him that because that’s what other QB’s are making.
If Baker left and Jake Browning became out starter, I guess we would have to give him 50M too.
I’m not against Baker getting his bag but earn it!
July 30th, 2026 at 12:50 pm
Mayfield has dead cap money in 2027 – about $30M. They CANNOT use the franchise tag on him or it would count as $80M on the cap. It’s been verified by the likes of Greg Auman.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:50 pm
26 is off to a rough start. are we back in the lost decade? baker should shut his mouth and let his play talk and then he’ll get paid. i’m glad the bucs are not giving in, the guys that are here want to play, put the distraction behind, we’re still a month plus away from the real season but what a dumpster fire
July 30th, 2026 at 12:51 pm
C’mon!!! Pay the man!
July 30th, 2026 at 12:51 pm
And, that is a FAIR FRICKING DEAL. I mean, WHY would they offer anything more than THAT, when they have the franchise tag at barely $50-MIL, & etc. LoL. And, AGAIN… NO Quarterback gets a FRESH LONGTERM DEAL, at 32-YEARS OLD. Other than Russell Wilson, it just IS WHAT IT IS. It would be straight up NEGLIGENT for the Bucs to offer anything more than that. 💯 So, HE’s doing exactly WHAT “I” SAID… He’s just trying to ‘maximize’ EVERY SINGLE LAST PENNY, that HE CAN GET. And, just exactly like Cousins before HIM… He’s is using the Franchise Tag, in order to accomplish this!!!!
July 30th, 2026 at 12:52 pm
I hope Mayfield does just what he says he’ll do and ball out – and Bucs get to at least NFC Championship game….
Under those circumstances, Bucs will offer him a generous contract and if he signs somewhere else, what FA QB wouldn’t want to sign with a team that just went to Championship game?
July 30th, 2026 at 12:53 pm
And, I ‘thought’ BAKER was done with talking CONTRACTS, and was now supposedly, only focused on BALL!? Hmmmm…
July 30th, 2026 at 1:02 pm
Dead cap money is an interest fre loan against the new cap. Bucs would redo Wirfs deal and wipe it all out before Feb 2027.Dead cap money is no issue to a guru like Mike Greenberg.
July 30th, 2026 at 1:02 pm
@ Will – It’s not even CLOSE to being the same exact thing with Bijan & Gibbs. Just a HUGE DIFFERENCE. Number-1, they are THE ELITE of THE VERY ELITE. Number-2… They are barely even 25 years old, and BOTH are just now in THEIR PRIMES. And, Number-3… They will BOTH end up getting exactly WHAT “THEY” WANT. 💯 BIG DIFFERENCE.
July 30th, 2026 at 1:04 pm
Once again, to the highly ‘emotional’ and WEAK… Absolutely NOTHING has changed for 2026.
July 30th, 2026 at 1:08 pm
It’s not Jackson making 52 that’s annoying him ,, it’s Dak at 60, Lawerence and Love at 55, Goff and Purdy at 53 and yes , everyone’s all American QB Herbert at 52 ,,, 52 million for the face of our franchise ,, the only guy that gives this team any juice , the only reason (winning or losing ) the Bucs are watchable , the heart and soul of the Bucs is perfectly reasonable for 2027,2028,2029,,,
July 30th, 2026 at 1:16 pm
Bucs are caught in a trap of having to pay this man because we have no other options, no one on the roster. Paying out that kind of money because you have no choice is a mistake. As said before, he makes Plays with with his legs and keeps drives alive at times, exciting to watch at times, and an above average QB at times. His entire career reflects that. He’s constantly shown us how he’s thrown game ending interceptions when things are on the the line, plus many more mistakes. These things do not warrant a fat contract, but he has leverage, and the bucs will be forced to pay this kind of money because we have no other options, facts. Damn shame!

Warren Brooks Lynch Says:
July 30th, 2026 at 12:00 pm
Didn’t he say in the presser it’s not about the money? So which one is it?
———————
I know you’re not a big Baker fan bro…. Unfortunate because aside from that I agree with you on most things and actually think you know football much better than most of our authors and commenters around here.
It should be clear to you…. The way respect is shown in the NFL is pay scale. Baker feels disrespected by the fact that Tua, Love, Lawrence etc etc are making more than he’s being offered. Anything under 50 per year will be construed as disrespectful – most of us knew that coming in to this.
July 30th, 2026 at 1:41 pm
Another thing that is VERY SMART with this Bucs FO is IF Baker does have that career season… THEN, the Bucs can ‘franchise’ him for next season, BEFORE ‘moving him’ and receiving 2027-DRAFT Compensation. VERY. VERY. SMART MOVE. For the next young and ‘aggressive’ modern day NFL, HC and GM.
July 30th, 2026 at 1:41 pm
rebuild, its why they kept bowles
July 30th, 2026 at 1:41 pm
“It should be clear to you…. The way respect is shown in the NFL is pay scale. Baker feels disrespected by the fact that Tua, Love, Lawrence etc etc are making more than he’s being offered.”
I totally get that, but my thing is IF the deal has been on the table and he’s team first and wants to play with our guys, then he’d be willing to compromise on his end to stay with the guys and win football games. My thing is, in the presser he’s expressed team first and me-first sentiment when talking about “being disrespected” by the same people who went out of their way last season to guarantee him a $30M bonus this year.
Trust me, I’m not being dense about it, but those who know the phrase-sounds like Baker is talking out of both sides of his mouth. You are absolutely right though, I’m not the biggest Baker fan and I still feel alot of his success is as much a credit to the makeup of our offensive roster than it is his play elevating the talent around him.
July 30th, 2026 at 1:46 pm
Baker should thank his lucky stars that the Bucs gifted him an opportunity when he had been on 3 teams in the prior 2 seasons . Bucs revived his career when it was on life support.
July 30th, 2026 at 1:50 pm
Let’s nit pick over a couple of million. Pisses me off when so many people are struggling to make ends meet. Baker, you ever perform open heart surgery?
July 30th, 2026 at 1:52 pm
This really sounds like they are basically just wasting a year to do a full rebuild next year. They could have just started that this year but they didn’t have the balls to fire Bowles after just renewing his contract. So to save face they are basically just let it ride out so they don’t have to pay 2 coaches. This season is over before it started.
July 30th, 2026 at 1:53 pm
@ BucsFanNJ – Even though, I literally HATE the phrase… But, it is a ‘big-ole’ NOTHING BURGER LoL. Entirely, IRRELEVANT. Because, the $30-MILLION is a helluva LOT ‘easier’ pill to swallow, than what the $150-MILLION+ would be (and longterm, well into future CAPS). Annnnd, the $30-MIL is guaranteed, regardless… They WILL have to pay that, no matter WHAT happens. It’s already, a DONE DEAL. Plus, there will be at least a ‘half-dozen’ OTHER WAYS, to take care of it!!!! So, that is nothing but a WEAK attempt at an EXCUSE. You canNOT allow something like that, to dictate your ENTIRE organization’s FUTURE. 💯 PERIOD. End of That Story.
July 30th, 2026 at 1:55 pm
So much drama from Bucs fans.
I would have extended Baker 3 more years at 55 mil.
But this is a business. Baker wears his emotions and he feels he earned a deal. I don’t blame him for that. He has earned a deal.
From ownership perspective. The franchise tag would likely cost 50-55 million next year. Which is basically similar to the number he wants. Not a lot downside to wait except you can’t spread those monies over a few years if use a tag.
Baker plays well – he will get the franchise tag or an extension for 4 years at 55-60 mil.
July 30th, 2026 at 1:55 pm
@ BucsFan81 – Once AGAIN, to the ‘emotionally’ challenged… Absolutely NOTHING has changed for this 2026 season.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:09 pm
Sounds-like, the Bucs offered Baker AGAIN, exactly what “I” said. I said during the first ‘go-around’ that it should not be anything over 3-years, & $100-$105 MIL (because they were only bidding against THEMSELVES)… And, that was exactly WHAT HE GOT (when all the ‘emotional’ Bois, were all saying $40, $50, even $60-MIL a year, WHATEVER IT TAKES lol). And, for THIS current go-around… I said, 3-years, and $130-$135MIL, with about $85-MIL fully-guaranteed, up to $100-MIL (if you just REALLY wanted to get the deal done)… AND, you could add some ‘incentives’ for up to an ‘additional’ $15-MIL Total ($5-MIL each for league MVP/NFC Title/Super Bowl WIN), and making it at least ‘look-like’ it’s up to $60-MIL PER, in order to save Baker’s EGO. Though, I’m glad the Bucs have remained STONG and held their ground… Cause, nothing else anymore than that, just doesn’t MAKE SENSE. Baker is just repeating EXACTLY what he did in CLEVELAND, all over again.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:16 pm
baker cant handle the pressure and the glazers know it…
GO BUCS!!!!
July 30th, 2026 at 2:19 pm
@ WBL Says: “ Baker is talking out of both sides of his mouth.”
And, so are all the Baker Bois… They’ve spewed for the past YEAR+, that Baker will take a “DISCOUNT” to play here, & all that complete BS (without ANY actual real evidence whatsoever, I might add). But, NOW they’ve all completely changed THEIR TUNE. You don’t get to have it both ways. So, WHERE’s this BIG “DISCOUNT” at, Bois!? Lmao.
One more thing, that I just said this morning about J-Mac on The Herd (on the Riddick post and Baker being “emboldened”)… Well, Well, Well, then. J-Mac literally JUST SAID TODAY on The Herd, that “BAKER’s WIFE” checked-in to our Instagram Account Feed YESTERDAY!!!! Hahahahahahhh HIS FREAKING WIFE Lmaooo.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:25 pm
I literally SAID, that Baker (or his LoL “WIFE”) only listen to what HE WANTED TO hear… That, J-Mac said, immediately after his little RANT, that Baker was NOT worth “Dak-$ or even $50-MIL per year.” He said, Baker was worth maybe, $45-MIL. Exactly, what HE SAID. And, I KNEW that Baker (or his “WIFE” lol), only HEARD the first part.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:25 pm
Todd. You don’t know what you’re talking about so why not shut the hell up and let somebody talk who does.
He was on 4 teams the prior one season. March 2022-March 2023 he was on 4 teams.
2018-2021. Browns. 4 complete years. 2023-2025. Bucs. 3 complete years. That’s seven, Todd. 2022 was the year he made some decisions.
Bucs didn’t gift him shlt. Thanks to Coach Bowles and a major assist from Bruce Arians they got him the FIRST day he was available in Free Agency. March 10, 2023. He wanted a guarantee as the starter, he didn’t care about the money. The Trask lie bouyed a few idiots feelings. Maybe yours? Liar Todd. That’s you dude.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:26 pm
Who’s the rookie we’re gonna draft who’s a guaranteed upgrade on baker? Anyone?
July 30th, 2026 at 2:28 pm
Nowwwwww everyone sees the tank on the horizon. Lol…took yall long enough to figure it out. The rebuild started when Brady left.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:30 pm
OK, now the extension talk makes a lot more sense.
Basically the team was just fishing to see if they could get a deal, that also wouldn’t kill the team for the next decade if Baker fully reverts to being a pumpkin. The Bucs have him under contract, BUT if Baker was willing to take a cheap deal, they’d extend him, if not, they’ll play out the year and see what happened.
From Baker’s side, he bets on himself.
Good on both sides.
Baker is coming off an awful season, there is no reason to reward that. At the same time, Baker still has value, so even if he had another bad year, if he’s on a cheap deal (and yes, $45M or so for a starting QB is cheap in the modern NFL) then the Bucs could always trade him, or just keep him as a starter as they draft and groom a new QB.
Of course if Baker bounces back, then the Bucs are winning, and great – that means the Bucs are happy to pay him the $55M or so needed to lock him up – which would be deserved since it would mean he’s had 2 good seasons in the last 3 years and you write off 2025 as injuries.
I’m good with all of this.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:35 pm
“Wanted Long term Commitment”
Exactly what I have been saying all along. He knows Bowles only has this year left. He wants more years.
He would take less that $50/yr if they gave him a 4 year deal with half of it guaranteed.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:38 pm
OMG, people. Baker is doing absolutely nothing wrong. Grow up, lol.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:39 pm
This all comes down to Mike Tomlin. The Bucs probably called him and asked what it would take to get him in tampa and he said a year off and I pick my QB.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:42 pm
This is all good from my POV. He’s a solid to good qb but he’s delusional if he thinks he’s worth 4-5 guaranteed years.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:48 pm
Offered under 50!? That’s a slap in the face. 50 is the going rate for decent QBs now.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:49 pm
The ownership sees the writing on the wall TB will not be the HC the following year and while most HC would lover to have Baker as their QB.
The one they hire may not, so they do not want to handcuff the HC with a QB they may not want.
Expect a franchise tag and new HC next year.
July 30th, 2026 at 2:53 pm
Well it all sounds good until Geno is our QB for the next 4 years and we are trying to find the next Drake Maye . Baker has a great year, and he gets a new contract from JL and Baker says “all the way up with a red hot poker, I can play anywhere I want!” (One on one movie line)
July 30th, 2026 at 3:13 pm
Not a good look to run to the media to complain about contract negotiations. Completely immature by Mayfield. Did Tom Brady ever pull the stunt? Of course, not cause franchise quarterbacks don’t do this.
July 30th, 2026 at 3:22 pm
“Not a good look to run to the media to complain about contract negotiations. Completely immature by Mayfield.”
Same guy that interjected into a conversation on twitter/X being tied to Stefanski as Falcons HC and let his PTSD talk for him, saying he was thrown out like a piece of trash.
If you’re impulsive in your decision making on the football field, highly likely you’re impulsive when thought can save you from making a herky, jerky reaction.
July 30th, 2026 at 3:33 pm
Baker’s holding out for fair compensation is not a selfish act vis-a-vis his teammates. If he cannot, after all his well-documented achievements, get fair return for his efforts, what hope do lesser players have for good contracts? Even Munchkin agrees that Mayfield is “on a cheap deal” right now. He was on an even cheaper deal his first year.
