Todd Bowles Has Keionte Scott Playing All Over
July 30th, 2026Joe thought for sure when the Bucs drafted hard-nosed, hard-hitting, ferocious defensive back Keionte Scott out of Miami, Todd Bowles would start him at nickel corner.
That doesn’t appear to be the case. At least not through the first two days of training camp.
Bowles has decided to play mad scientist with Scott. The rookie missed all of spring ball, OTAs/underwear football, because he was recovering from a hand/wrist injury.
Bowles confirmed after practice he has played Scott all over.
“He played corner, he played nickel and he played safety,” Bowles said. “To process that kind of information and to be doing what he is doing has been phenomenal to see.
“It really helps him to learn the defense moving around playing different spots. His mind is outstanding. We just look for him to keep getting better.”
Bowles added one reason he likes to have guys playing multiple positions is “if there are injuries… you don’t have to panic.”
Joe also suspects having players who can and do play multiple positions confuses opposing quarterbacks.
Joe would rather see Scott play nickel corner and get proficient at that first and then start experimenting with him.
But that’s just Joe.

Jose, you know the saying about QBs: if you have two QBs, you really have none. That might be applied here. If you have three positions, you really don’t have one. Maybe Scott isn’t great at any of them but could be good at all the positions. You know, Jack of all trades etc etc. In college recruiting, he would be labeled “Athlete”.

Last year our corners sucked. Keionte is lightning fast & may be more valuable playing outside?

Good Job Todd.

Who cares? The season is over. You cannot treat leaders the way they have treated Baker and VV and not expect it to leave a mark.
Glazers, where are you?
Fans: do not buy tix. Do not buy merch. Go with what you already have. Let them feel the pain. They put pain on us. Leaving inept Bowles as HC. Crapping on the players.
If this is what you’re going to do, Glazer family, just sell the team.

Hope this guy is more than draft hype and quickly finds a home.
Thanks again Joe for all the minicamp coverage.
LFG Bucs.

In the box Safety is where I see him playing his best….saw that when I was pushing for him. Some CB too, but he’s a thumper!

Playing other positions has its advantages. Knowing the other players’ responsibilities on the field helps him to better define his coverages and zones. IF he has the capacity for it, as Todd says he does.

Scott is perfect for Nickel in terms of his awareness, speed, and physicality in close quarter. Especially considering that position is hybridized in our scheme that can serve as a cover NB, but also be an asset in run defense which is all over Scotts’ tape from The U.
The outside CB deal isn’t that far fetched either as it’s a position Scott played in his time at Auburn as well as serving as a pretty decent punt returner.
We saw SMB swing between the outside and nickel positions no problem. I think Scott has more to him athletically and if he’s as heady a player as Murphy-Bunting was he would be alright.
To me, I don’t see Keionte as an outside CB over Parrish nor McCollum, but he could be used in Morrisons’ absence or as a 4th option if the top 3 CBs are all available and we’re playing the matchup game.

Why? Why would you ever think that? Do NOT ever question Todd Bowles. He is after all, a genius.

Sure, move him all over, why not. He can be a jack of all trades, and a master of none. Don’t know why Bowles doesn’t let players lock in, and master one position. No wonder confusion reins in Todd’s secondary.

Kei didn’t come to mess around he is a monster out there and representing the U very well. He brings that dawg mentality our defense needs and this was an outstanding pick for Sure 🔥
