Yahoo!: No Reason For Bucs Not To Succeed

July 26th, 2026

Plenty of talent left.

More than a few folks in the national media not only scoff at the NFC South landfill but don’t take the Bucs seriously.

One prominent chronicler of the NFL thinks those folks are naive. That writer would be Frank Schwab of Yahoo! Schwag believed the Bucs had the talent to get to the NFC title game last year and, who knows, maybe reach the Super Bowl.

Yeah, Joe doesn’t think anyone could have predicted the offense decimated by injuries the way it was.

And while Schwab isn’t predicting the Bucs to be playing in Los Angeles in February, Schwab still says the Bucs have enough talent to win the NFC South.

Joe was typing this to famed Bucs superfan Port Richey Lou yesterday: The Bucs do have a strong offensive line, when healthy. That can cover up a lot of warts.

In fact, Joe told Port Richey Lou the Bucs have the personnel to go full-blown smashmouth football and play keepaway because the Bucs’ defense is so p!ss poor.

There’s one catch: Short of maybe Sean Tucker, the Bucs don’t have a physical running back who can pound the ball between the tackles snap after snap.

And if the Bucs can’t play good ball with their curren talent, Schwab said it will be time to point a finger at the would-be culprit.

The head coach.

    That’s ridiculous…

I am taking the Bucs very seriously this season.

    7-10.

  2. Marine Buc Says:

The Bucs will lose 6 games by 3 points or less.

  3. Bojim Says:

We definitely have the talent to win the division. Stay healthy, we win it bigly. And also need to win at least one playoff game. Or Todd is gone.

  4. Bojim Says:

    I can’t watch a downhill slide again.

  5. ModHairKen Says:

Things that are a given: The Bucs will not start out as hot as they did last season. They will have at least a 3 game losing streak at some point. They will blow leads in at least 2 division games. They will lose after the bye.

8 wins seems to be the ceiling.

Then it’s bye-bye Todd and Licht. Baker will also leave. So will Vea.

    Back to below average.

Front office mismanagement at its best.

  6. JustVisiting Says:

Any chance of picking up a bruiser RB?

  7. #99 The Big Fella Says:

    My prediction
We have enough talent to win
Todd gets fired during the season.

  8. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Mod

“Then it’s bye-bye Todd and Licht. Baker will also leave. So will Vea.

    No worries.

I heard that the “Rock Star” GM Mark Dominik was still looking for a job.

    Maybe?

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Jeffbuc Says:

Looked at available free agent running backs best bigger back available is Najee Harris wouldn’t be a bad pickup. And I’m sure he will be cheap. Sounds better than the Josh kid from lsu we have as our 4th right now. Najee is around 225-230 and has been a bell cow for Pittsburg. But that is to easy a pickup for Licht to make before camp starts.

  10. Jeffbuc Says:

And Joe Nixon is available he is 30 and probably not signed do to wanting to much money. Maybe his price will come down closer to beginning of season. Other than that it’s smaller backs ekelar and Antonio Gibson

  11. Kenton Smith Says:

What are you certifiable nutjobs watching? Last year, we expected Kancey and Walker to be big time on the D-Line. We expected to have as good an OLine as in the business. Our top 3 or 4 receivers out half the time.

The team didn’t have the talent to compete down the stretch, but held together.

We beat an NFL division rival in a must win game the final game! A team that went to the playoffs- downtalk that all you want and show your dumbness.

Jason and Todd have been playing chess this offseason while the rest of us have been playing checkers. Anyone paying attention knows our weaknesses were the trenches, both sides of the ball, and our special teams.

The defensive line is the Exclamation Point!! Man, that is where we’re going to look like an entirely different team. If I have to name names, you’re not a fan. And a healthy offensive line? Get the he!! out of here!

The purely physical play of both of our lines of scrimmage will be our standout asset- as Coach Bowles, Baker Mayfield, and Jason Licht know it must be.

Hearing all you commenters predicting losing season and such nonsense. The clock is ticking on “full blown dumba$$ exposure” for you guys. Tick, Toc, Tick Toc…….

  12. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Kenton

    “certifiable nutjobs”

    Be careful my friend.

My “nutjob” diagnosis has never been “certified”.

I have a question for you amigo – What is YOUR prediction for the Bucs?

    I’m thinking – 7 – 10…

  13. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Najee Harris sounds good to me. At 30 he doesn’t need to play every down. When we need to drain the clock he comes in, rested. Better than a lightweight who has been banging around the whole game.

Chances of JL/TB going for new personnel at this stage of the season = zero! That would upset the detailed and intensive training the rest of the squad has had at this point. (gag)

  14. Lou. Says:

A good team has to be strong up the middle. On both sides of the ball.

To be a great team you have to impose your will against opponents, or as Joe Gibbs put it, “We don’t take what they give us. We take what we want.”

The Bucs are not a good team, yet. Good on offense, questionable up the middle on defense.

The Bucs aren’t a great team, yet. Can’t think of what they could take as a “want.”

Our team has the opportunity to be good and a chance to be great. But we fans aren’t from Tampa Bay. We’re from Missouri. “Show me.”

  15. Okiejim Says:

Marine Buc, can’t speak for the Ridgerunner, but my certified Crystal Ball, 10-7 at the best 9-8 at the worse. If 10-7 wins the South, maybe 1-1 in playoffs. 9-8, Bucs pack and head to the Bahamas’s!

  16. SlyPirate Says:

    Average Everywhere

No real gaps but also no dominant playmakers.

    They just have good players.

  17. magoobee Says:

Yes, the Bucs should win the NFC South but if you put the Bucs in any other division, they would not be in the top 2. In the NFC North, they would be 5th.

The depth at QB, Center/Guard, LB, CB and S should scare every Buc Fan. The blame for lack of depth is a GM problem not HC.

I’m not a Bowles fan but I realize he is not the only issue.

  18. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

WTH, as we sit here on July 26th and camp two days from beginning let’s go with 11-6.

Breaking out the red and pewter colored glasses and getting the pom poms out of storage.

    NFC Championship Game or bust.

And Todd, “or bust” means you.

Is this a little delusional? Perhaps. But their asses better at least win the division or the last of the optimists are jumping off the pirate ship.

  19. Simple T Says:

“In fact, Joe told Port Richey Lou the Bucs have the personnel to go full-blown smashmouth football and play keepaway because the Bucs’ defense is so p!ss poor.”
    ——–
That sentence makes no sense but overlooking that……. I don’t see us as a smash mouth team at all. I believe our best strategy on offense would be short/quick passes and run game setting up shots and chunk plays. Our backs should be getting plenty of targets with short passes acting as an extension of our run game and plenty of YAC.

Not sure why you continue to act like the offense needed/needs to compensate for the plss poor defense without acknowledging the opposite, which is equally true. You assume the defense is going to be bad.. you assume (like you did the last 2 years) that the offense is not an issue but the D is all the time in spite of our defense out playing the offense down the stretch both years.

  20. Steve V Says:

Im thinking the Oline stays healthy and they run their way into the playoffs! The Oline is just to good to roll over and the backs are very good..

  21. Steve V Says:

My son a die hard Ravens fan! is pulling for the bucs big time, with them playing the afc north!!

  22. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

Never underestimate Todd Bowles ability to mess something up.

  23. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The moisty boyyz up here posting winning seasons only because they refuse to pick against Baker even if he is sucking. No turnover or loss is his fault but everybody else’s.

Smoke Porterhouse he is the #1 reason

  24. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

Big David: Yes, Baker was calling the shots on defense when the Bucs couldn’t stop a marching band…If Baker wouldn’t have made Kirk Cousins look like Tom Brady in his prime…Baker, who had complete control of special teams, also failed in that aspect…Yes Big Dave, you are correct, Baker lost games in every phase for the Bucs. Bowles tried saving the season by letting the defensive players rest on the field during games, during live action, which was an excellent strategic move.

  25. David Says:

Sure there is… Bowles has to prove his schemes have not been overcome by the offenses in the league. Their defense has steadily become worse since the Super Bowl run. And it’s not all on the players.
Obviously a better pass rush fixes a lot of issues, but that can be said for every scheme the NFL has ever created for defense.

  26. BuccoMarty Says:

Wait… the Incredibly Average coach might be the problem?

    YA DON’T SAY!!!!!

  27. BatW Says:

Todd Bowles has shown he cant win more than 10 games in a season. Once with the Jets and the Bucs. I’ll ignore the jets so with the Bucs he has a 35-33 record, Not the best with only 2 winning seasons. So I say fire him if he can’t get 11 wins and no more 4 game losing streaks. If that happens fire him mid season.

HC is the reason this team won’t go anywhere

    HC is a$$
