Baker Mayfield Enjoyed Looking Back At Dealing With Multiple Injuries

July 10th, 2026

Interesting 2025 reflections from Baker Mayfield.

Next week, Bucs fans will get to enjoy watching Mayfield featured on the Netflix Quarterback series, which followed him, Joe Flacco, Jayden Daniels and Cam Ward through last season.

Mayfield sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about his experience with the series and he opened up a bit about his injuries — the ones he grinded through to play 17 games.

Here’s an excerpt from the Mayfield Q & A.

What was your favorite part of your story to watch back on screen?

I think all the injuries and whatnot I was dealing with throughout the year, the look into what my Monday and Tuesday looks like with my physiotherapist, Dave Matthews — just him putting all the pieces back together to where I can walk on Wednesday and practice on Wednesday.

That part of the process is something that has been routine for me every single week for eight years now, to work with him, and it’s not fun whatsoever. It’s painful. It stinks, but you gotta do it to get back on the field and you gotta take care of your body.

People are like, “I don’t know how he plays every week,” but to give a look inside to somebody that has been there for me and has truly put the pieces back one step at a time and, to show that process of what my Monday night looks like—having family over for dinner, we’re eating, we’re hanging out, we’re watching football, I’m getting my body worked on — that’s kinda where I unwind and unplug truly.

After a game on Sunday, I can’t. The adrenaline’s still going. But on a Monday is when I really get to decompress, and that’s when I start to hit the reset button for the next week. That’s a part of the process and arc of the schedule and the whole season that I think is gonna be fun for people to see.

Just how bad were Mayfield’s injuries? It sounds like Bucs fans are about to get a real first-hand look, especially if he’s talking about being able resume walking normally by Wednesday mornings.

Lavonte David said after retiring the Mayfield injuries were the kind quarterbacks don’t play through.

The Netflix series drops July 14.

Wonder what Baker believes the source of his prime time, late game and crucial game gagging is?

  2. ATLBuc Says:

That’s not macho, moxie or cute. Sit your behind down for a couple of weeks and heal so we have a chance of winning. We’ve already proven that a hurt Baker can’t win consistently. But in the end, its Todds call.

  3. DBS Says:

Yes Baker you should have sat down. A certain group here couldn’t wait to see Teddy on the field.

  4. jcscycles Says:

The people here that comment about “everyone is injured in the NFL” should watch this. Because – there are injuries and injuries. Some far worse than others.

Meanwhile, as people here are screeching about an aging and often hurt wide receiver whom left the team, Mayfield is reportedly getting a new contract offer per CBS Sports. One much higher than the last one.

But we are stuck with Mike Evans articles because it increases the traffic.

We should start a pole of when Mike will injure his hamstring this year…or how far he throws his helmet when he does.

  5. DBS Says:

You weren’t injured anyway because you haven’t had any surgery for your injuries.

  6. 3.28.Evans Says:

Something that would really make the site more interesting is lots more articles about Mike Evans. Also the worst red zone defense in the NFL. Those are interesting.

  7. jimmy Says:

if baker was hurt and couldnt sit because of the incompetence of management in having adequate backup, just more strikes against bowles and licht.

bridgewatergate is another completely idiotic thing they did last year.

  8. Allen Lofton Says:

There’s a difference between playing hurt that can decimate a team or sitting out a week or two to save a season to make the playoff. If Mayfield can’t do that, the Bucs really need to find a decent backup quarterback and force Mayfield to the sideline to recuperate to get him healthy for the playoffs.
He’s proven to be a winner when healthy and a liability when seriously hurting.

  9. bakerfan Says:

The little Evans Rat Bois will scurry away when Evans goes down, which he will, and then won’t have to hear from them any more.

I think Evans was only a top 10 receiver twice the last 10 years. Shouldn’t you want more from your #1?

See how that works, a lot goes into making someone a top 10 player at his position. Meaning everyone needs help to make it work.

  10. LynchMob50 Says:

Agreed 3.28.Evans. The 32nd red zone defense in 2025 needs multiple articles daily.

Bowles just continues to get a pass by a compliant lap dog media.

How many times do we have to watch him put the game in the defenses hands and come up short every single game?

I’ll actually give Baker his flowers for several games before the bye week. He was the only reason we weren’t 3-5 or worse at the break. It could have happened.

And Mike Evans leaving was a huge slap in the face to the coaches and management. They deserved exactly that.

When your leaders who actually want to win decide to go elsewhere for less money and higher taxes, Tampa we have a problem.

  11. Wyoming Joe Says:

    Baker: 54M x4

  12. Fred McNeil Says:

I like Baker Mayfield. But truth be told I highly suspect the biggest issue that got him kicked out of Cleveland might have been his refusal to rest while seriously injured. He was wearing some kind of weird looking brace. I don’t actually know for sure.

  13. Sal Volatile Says:

Perhaps this NF series will force the Bucs hand. It certainly will strengthen Baker’s position.

  14. Truth be Told Says:

Say what you want about him-but 1 thing for sure is He is a Warrior and One Tough SOB> Anybody that denies that is just a HATER!

  15. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

I can only imagine the comment boards if we get a press conference answer of “We have cleared Baker to play, but he has decided to shut it down for two weeks to let his body heal.”

  16. Fred McNeil Says:

3 28 and lynchmob are the same person he or she likes to shine his own knob.

  17. Bee Says:

Out of everything he did last year, the early comebacks, the MVP talk, beating the eventual SB champs…he said being injured was his favorite. Wow, what a tough guy. All ego, no brains. Nothing he said sounds like a team first guy to me.

At least him playing through injuries helped the team win down the stretch…oh wait

False. It’s simply game respecting game. And we’re playing wiffle ball with retards who only like to Pom Pom waive.

As if a higher amount of Polly positive lemming speak is somehow going to equate to more wins.

Now go make love to your Bowles doll and rewatch the 2-7 championship stretch run.

  19. Fred McNeil Says:

Lynchmob, wipe the mayo of your lips before you speak. Was that a fart or did you just yawn?

  20. Bee Says:

He didn’t mention what part or parts of his body were injured. Oh well, nevermind. It’s nothing. He’s healthy now. Right?

  21. Fred McNeil Says:

And for your information, I am certainly no fan of Todd Bowles. I simply cannot change the fact that we are stuck with that cigar store Indian. I can watch the games or not. I choose to watch.

  22. Jake Been there since the beginning Says:

See, I said it the last part of the season, I also saw the hit that messed up his shoulder. Same shoulder as before. When you roll into the building on Monday, in a wheelchair, and walk back out, that’s some healing power..
