Bucs Cancel Day 3 (Thursday) Of Mandatory Minicamp

June 17th, 2026

NFL coaches love to moan about not having enough practice time. It gets old.

Today, Todd Bowles canceled Day 3 (Thursday) of the Bucs’ scheduled three-day mandatory minicamp.

It seems Bowles thinks the team has accomplished its spring goals. That’s a good sign. Joe suspects if new offensive coordiator Zac Robinson felt he needed one more day, the team would be practicing Thursday in some capacity.

A shortened minicamp is nothing new at One Buc Palace or around the NFL. Heck, the Rams and 49ers canceled theirs entirely this season. Of course, those teams have had the same head coaches in place for a long, long time, per NFL standards.

After the final minicamp practice today, which is strictly glorified flag football, the Bucs will return to the field July 30 for Day 1 of 2026 training camp.

Hmm…makes me wonder if Bowles will continue the walk through practices of last season that didn’t get great results during games. Hopefully not.

  2. ATLBuc Says:

That’s one day less for injuries to occur, like last year with David Walker.

  3. Badbucs Says:

Non-playoff teams with a bunch of new coaches don’t need to practice. Take a vacation.

  4. LynchMob50 Says:

8-9 and no playoffs in a garbage division in 2025.

Solution: Less practicing and the same HC\DC.

Pure genius. SB here we come!

  5. Bosch Says:

Reminds me of the huge break Bowles gave the players for the bye week. How did that work out?

  6. 3rd and 28 in the Canoe Says:

2026 Game plan – Mail it in and cash the checks? How can Bowles defend this to ownership? At a minimum, keep the team in camp and review film and installs.

  7. StormyInFl Says:

Todd’s Camp Cupcake – 2026. Same as last year. I mean, it worked so well…

We’ve seen this movie before. The ending sucks.

  8. Mobucs Says:

Did I not read here yesterday that there was an unplanned collision between two players during practice? Could the NFL have caught this on tape and penalized the Bucs for a second time for being naughty in their non-contact drills?

Where is the Joe TS retirement post? One of the Bucs great draft picks for rushing the QB………..

  11. DailyRich Says:

    It … it’s one practice.

  12. JackBall Says:

Yes, it could be a bad ending!

  13. idiaznet Says:

People the NFL made them cancel the practice because their others were too hard for the NFLPA. This isn’t Bowles being soft. HE is just assuring people that this won’t affect their plans.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

maybe bowles told the team, get ready for an tough physical training camp were their will be no days off and the sense of urgency will be present

    we’ll see

    GO BUCS!!!!

  15. idiaznet Says:

Oops – My mistake the lost an OTA not a mini camp practice. Let the bashing resume.

  16. Ash Says:

The way the tackling looked last season they need to stop taking time off and drill the hell out of fundamentals.

  17. D-Rome Says:

Some of you people are ridiculous. Nothing done in the spring is going to carry over in training camp in a meaningful way. If a practice was cancelled during training camp then that’s an entirely different matter.

Agree but good luck with that! Reality and objectivity generally take a back seat to negativity here especially this time of the year.

And I get and support a lack of objectivity on sports team blogs. I find it amusing however when one could choose irrational exuberance in cheering for their team and instead choose irrational negativity. I’m frequently guilty of the first but never the second. But I concede as a fan my objectivity can and should be challenged.

let’s pretend extra Oklahoma drills in 95-degree heat are the missing ingredient to a Super Bowl run.

Which way do you guys want it? You want player hitting one another all spring and summer, so as soon as the right player gets hurt you can bash the coach for being “dumb” for pushing his players?

    or

Do you want him to preserve players from anything that may heighten their chances of sustaining a serious injury and having our best players available.

one or the other Bucs fans, can’t have both.

  22. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

You guys will call Bowles soft for cancelling a practice, but let someone get hurt then he and the training staff are terrible at their jobs. Can’t have it both ways, pick one.

You want a healthy roster, or more players doing things at a higher probability of injuring themselves or one another?

Interesting. Do you speak from experience?

All I know is we heard about the soft walk through practices last year and look at the result.

Insanity = Identifying the problem but do nothing to address it while expecting a better outcome.

Some of you people are ridiculous. Nothing done in the spring is going to carry over in training camp in a meaningful way.

    ———-

Not sure I agree with that, in particular with so many new coaches on both sides for the ball, along with a new offense.

Additionally, if you don’t want to run the vets, why not let the young guys go out and run around. Who knows, maybe someone stands out. At the very least, they get some stuff to work to be better prepared for camp.

The idea of wasting any practices, even flag football ones, when there’s such a limited schedule anymore just seems off base to me.

With that said, what does Andy Reid do? I don’t know, but I do know he’s one of the last coaches to still play starters in preseason. If he also blows off these practices, then I’d be less worried about it. But the hipster coaches blowing off practices because they want to be buddies with the players – I don’t see that working for Bowles.

Walkthrough practices were only cuz the team was so injured

  32. BuckyBucs Says:

Oh no he cancelled a practice in Jund when training camp is a full month away and season 2months…oh well

Aw look the kissing cousins are sticking up for each other. How cute

  34. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Bowles would be damned if he kept the practice and someone were to get hurt.

Bowles is damned if he cancels the practice, because now it’s soft.

No rhyme, barely any reason, just “we dont like” this or that.

    LOL

Praying that the players have a great month ahead and that there are no injuries or silliness with the law.

  36. JA Says:

Thinking Morrison should have hung around and practiced when others went home.

    Got this from Google Gemini:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Benjamin Morrison recorded 3 pass breakups and allowed 23 receptions in coverage during his rookie 2025 season.

A more specific breakdown of his 2025 performance reveals:
    Pass Breakups (PD): 3
    Receptions Allowed: 23
    Interceptions: 0
    Games Played: 10

I’d say the young man needs some work!

  37. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    @JA

Now go look at the stretch he had playing in the Patriots & Bills game, it was an ugly 2 weeks for BBQ B-Mo
