Not Liking A’Shawn Robinson

April 15th, 2026

Unemployed (?) tribesman not impressed.

The PFF tribe is on life support. But before the ship crashed, the tribe was able to get a shot out (not shoutout) at a new Bucs defender.

Zoltán Buday, who Joe isn’t sure works there after Cris Collinsworth picked up the discarded website off the sidewalk and then proceeded to gut the staff in an effort to keep the lights on, has a like/dislike for each team’s free agency moves.

Buday liked the Bucs picking up inside linebacker Alex Anzalone. But Buday did not like the Bucs siging defensive tackle D’Shawn Robinson.

Least Favorite Move: DI A’Shawn Robinson

Robinson has been past his prime for a couple of seasons, and a Panthers front office that needed all the help it could get on defense released him. Although his 2025 was better than his previous two seasons, Robinson still ranked [low] among interior defenders. At this stage of his career, he is probably a situational role player. Yet, his contract suggests the Buccaneers think otherwise.

Well, God forbid Team Glazer trusts a guy who has already demonstrated he can build a Super Bowl-winning roster as opposed to a dude in the unemployment line who trafficked in dumbarse grades.

The outfit that bought the PFF tribe thought so much of their dumbarse grades (just like NFL suits) that they told Collinsworth, “Please, take the website and the dumbarse grades off our hands — for free!”

Is Joe expecting Robinson to be the next Vita Vea? No, but Robinson was brought in for a purpose. Even Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht had to acknowledge the Bucs defense last year was Charmin soft.

You can say a lot of things about Robinson, but “soft” is not one of them.

  1. Lakeland Says:

A’Shawn Robinson is exactly what we need on our defensive front
Last season, teams pushed us around on the defensive front
They couldn’t keep blockers off our Inside Linebackers

I don’t understand the Carolina Panthers, not because of letting A’Shawn walk
They gave away Brian Burns for pennies on the dollar
The Giants gave them a 2nd and 5th for Burns, when Burns was 25 years old.
One of the top edge rushers in the NFL

Then they give Jalean Phillips a 4 year $120 million contract

  2. Steven007 Says:

Lakeland, the Philips contract is probably the biggest overspend in the entire free agency period. Yaya, diabi has better Rush stats than him. Not our problem. I like the player, but he’s always hurt and he’s never produced at a high level when healthy. As you state, Robinson is exactly what we were looking for. Big, tough guy in the middle. Quite a load with Vita next to him. Should theoretically free up the pass rush. Much better than last season.

  3. Tony Says:

Just bring back Desmond Watson now!!!!!!!!!!!! LET HIM PLAY!!!!!!!!😁 Maybe they could get him down to like 650 then.

  4. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Dave Canales will be looking for work next year.

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

As to the topic, he’s healthy depth. I’ll take it.

  6. FortMyersDave Says:

A’Shawn is an upgrade over Logan Hall and I doubt if he has ever ended a teammate’s career either which is all Logan Hall will be remembered for as a Buc..

  7. Hodad Says:

Yes Licht built a SB roster. He also brought in Swaggy Baker for the same reason he signed Robinson, size, and toughness. So let’s not pretend all Licht’s personel moves are the best. At least he’s a real defensive tackle, unlike Hall who Licht thought could move inside. Yes Licht gave us Hall, and JTS, and Reddick. I don’t just trust Licht like Joe does, but I hope Robinson pans out.

  8. Tampa2ATL Says:

Say it to his face, Zoltan.

  9. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

It’s not a sexy pickup, or a player that’s easily identifiable on a sports ticker, but Robinson has a purpose here.

I think he’s a little bigger, plays a little smarter and has a more ornery disposition than Logan Hall. 100% more experienced/battled test or whatever you want to call it, and that’s valuable for this defense in comparison to any of the interior talent we lost. Better than Gaines too.

  10. Mort Says:

He’s an upgrade over our backups, and he’s a backup. AND we are gonna draft one. This is a good add and a culture correction.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Situation: Our defense is dug in on our own 2-yard line & it’s 1st-and-goal for the bad guys with 1 minute to play. Who would you rather have on your DLine trying to prevent your opponent from scoring the winning TD?

o Option 1: Vita Vea, Kayden McDonald, A’Shawn Robinson.

o Option 2: Vita Vea, Greg Gaines, Logan Hall.

Side note: Last season the Bucs surrendered 30 Red Zone TDs out of 43 Red Zone Attempts for a 69.8% Red Zone Percentage, resulting in us ranking #32 in the NFL. Don’t let that influence your vote though.

  12. Scott Says:

I think it was more about the 10 mil salary but it is what it is. A vet like him earned it.

  13. Beeej Says:

Greg Gaines STILL on the street

  14. JimBobBuc Says:

Hopefully his play will be better than Akiem Hicks. It’s the season of HOPE, and we know what that means.

  15. 813bucboi Says:

A.Robinson is a true DT thru and thru….mean, nasty, tough, physical and a leader…

we still have too many nice guys on defense but A.Robinson sure isnt 1 of them

    GO BUCS!!!!

  16. Ash Says:

Rather have vita vea, kancy, robinson, yaya.and mesidor DR.

  17. 3.28.Evans Says:

It may or may not be true.

What is certain, the Bucs’ Lovie Twins could tale Aaron Donald and get him playing like Aaron Buffoon.

    So it doesn’t matter.

  18. Bosch Says:

Buddy seems to suggest that the Bucs are paying him starter money. Is that true? If so, then I tend to agree it wasn’t a good move.

  19. cbell96825 Says:

I know he’s better then Greg Gains and Logan Hall

  20. Rod Munch Says:

“At this stage of his career, he is probably a situational role player. Yet, his contract suggests the Buccaneers think otherwise.”

    ———–

He is considered a 2-down run stuffer – so does that count for situational? Also his money is basically what middling 2-down defensive lineman get. People don’t seem to adjust their expectations, accounting for the cap increasing.

Additionally he’s being brought in a tone setter – just a mean, tough run stuffer. We’ll see if he ends up being worth it or not, but it’s not much of a risk.

Also, considering the Bucs made very few offseason moves, and most of them were bad moves, it’s not like there was a big list of things to choose from.
