Teddy Bridgewater Signs With Detroit

March 10th, 2026

Unwanted in Tampa, 2025 Bucs backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has reunited with the Lions.

How bout that. Bridgewater lands a new team one day into free agency! (Kyle Trask is still looking for work.)

Todd Bowles was clear last month at the NFL Scouting Combine that he and Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager are looking for a backup QB, so Bridgewater departing is no surprise. His contract terms with the Lions have not yet been reported.

Bridgewater, 33, looked overwhelmed in his only significant action for the Bucs last season, coming off the bench to relieve Baker Mayfield in a blowout (we-didn’t-show-up) loss at the Los Angeles Rams.

Are the Bucs waiting to see if veteran QB Andy Dalton gets cut from the Panthers? Carolina signed Kenny Pickett to replace him this week.

Dalton hitting the street seems inevitable if the Panthers can’t find a trade partner. Dalton also seems to have more in the tank than Bridgewater and Joe suspects the Bucs are interested in an experienced guy with a strong arm.

Get the backup from the Packers if available.

  2. Outrigger Says:

Thank God noodle arm paycheck stealing Teddy is gone!!

  3. Rod Munch Says:

    As a coach?

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Lots of teams signed backup QBs yesterday.

  5. Bucs3 Says:

Who in the heck pays this guy a penny

He is a worse QB than Bowles is a coach

  6. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs should really look at Kyler Murray. He’s almost certainly not going to cost much, and I think from his side, he’d want to come to a team where he’d have a chance to look good if he ended up starting games. Plus it would give the Bucs a chance to look at him and see if there’s anything still there or not. Out of everyone available, he’d easily be my top pick as backup. He’s got a great arm, can run, and wasn’t that long ago considered a top tier NFL QB. From everything I heard about him, he lost his mojo after getting hurt, started to play scared and not wanting to get hit. But the Bucs should have an excellent offensive line and still have a good WR core, even if it’s no longer elite.

What an awful thing to write. The Bucs have had an elite WR score since Evans and Jackson, and now thats over.

Starting from zero, got nothing to lose
    Maybe we’ll make something
Me, myself, I got nothing to prove🎶🎶

  8. Rod Munch Says:

Crosby is available again… the Ravens backed out of the deal.

Why is that? Must be a physical – I guess.

  9. Lakeland Says:

Baker Mayfield cap hit is $53 million

The largest in Tampa Bay Bucs history
They can’t afford to invest much in another QB

  10. Tye Says:

One of the worst Bucs signings… good riddance!

  11. View from 132 Says:

Trade Baker for No. 1 pick. Hey, why not? I’m a fan. I want something interesting to happen.

Also, Teddy signing just how few QBs there are … the NFL should not have 32 teams with 15-18 serviceable QBs.

  12. buc4evr Says:

Good, wish him well. Let’s sign some defensive free agents please.

  13. Doooshlarue Says:

Kyler would almost certainly sign a vet min deal since he’s being paid big money by the Cards – and his salary would be offset by what the new team would pay. So there literally isn’t a cheaper QB you can get. It would just come down to who wants him, and who would he want to play for. Tampa is probably the top spot for just about every backup QB in the NFL since you go a talented offensive roster – and Baker’s history is what it is, and he played terrible down the stretch, so if it turns out he wasn’t ‘hurt’ and instead turned back into a pumpkin, a backup would have a good shot to start at some point. Not saying that will happen, I’m just giving the sales pitch for a backup picking where they want to go.

Of course the Bucs also have to have interesting, and who knows. Last year Bridgewater literally put one of the Bucs top young talents in the hospital, looked like trash, and they still handed him the job. So is it about having a good backup, or just protecting Baker’s ego? I’m not sure.

What tha heck just happened?!? The Ravens backed out of their trade? Makes me happy again being from So Cal and I’m not or will ever be a Faider fan!!! Cursed Oakland (does it matter where they are really from? 😆) come on Bucs! Let’s regroup from Mike’s departure and win again!

  18. Lefty R Says:

    No worries,……!!!!!

    Just one name Joe Flacco!!!!
He would be perfect for a backup!

  19. Lefty R Says:

Also…. one more thing Maxx Crosby deal got the Kibosh from the Ravens

  20. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Maxx Crosby available.
U cant make this stuff up.
2 caliber Edges that’ll put Bucs in SB and wont pull trigger

  21. StAugBuc Says:

    I stand corrected Munch 🙂

  22. Danny Mac Says:

Maxx Crosby trade deal off. Was it a physical? Hmmmm. Maybe he can be had for less

  23. Simeon4HOF Says:

Might as well trade for Crosby, have spend a #1 on Edge anyway

  24. KC Buc Says:

Physical on Crosby…maybe the price comes down now

  25. Simeon4HOF Says:

If zi know a star Edge puts me in the Super Bowl, I’m going to get him. Restructure whatever I must if Im JL swiftly … but. I. GO. GET. HIM

  26. Deeboooo Says:

Sounds like it was the physical. Wouldnt touch that with a 10 foot pole

  27. Simeon4HOF Says:

Trade for Crosby or sign Hendrickson. Then draft rest and we can win SB

  28. Lakeland Says:

    Rod Munch,

I agree with you, they should bring in a veteran QB
One who can take the job from Mayfield, when he go into choke mode

If Baker don’t get it together, he won’t be back next season
The writing is on the wall

  29. Lakeland Says:

It seems like every time Licht give these guys a bag

    They lay down and regress

  30. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    Boy was he disappointing

  31. PewterStiffArm Says:

The question is, as usual, what the hell are we waiting for. Always the last team to the show. You mean to tell me we are done molding our roster through free agency? What the hell, they better not put the same crap of a team on the field like they had last year. People are tired of the same mediocre results. Plenty of football players to be had and to go around. Why can’t we make a splash.

  32. LessisMore Says:

Thank the lord no more Bridgewater.

I also think Bakers gone next year.
FO had a chance to extend or redo his deal to free cap money but they chose not to. And the FO knows exactly how injured Baker was the 2nd half of the season and how decimated the Offensive line was. The coaching staff knew how injured Baker was and chose to let Bridgewater sit.

The Front Office chose not to free up 25 million plus to sign defensive players – let that sink in. Bakers cap hit is 53 million give or take this year and the Bucs are prepared to take the hit- pretend the draft and a 32 year old linebacker will fix everything.

I think that’s one of the reasons Mike is gone – FO didn’t extend Baker and the FO isn’t serious about contending.

Ownership is happy with 15 years of mediocrity and a build up to a Super Bowl every 20 years or so.

My bet is the draft a QB – watch for it. The kid from North Dakota State?

    What a piece of garbage

Really ? Do you know the man ? What a 🤡

  34. Simeon4HOF Says:

O yea crosby failed physical never-ending sign hendrickson

  35. Pewter Power Says:

The most I remember about him is he’s the guy running after Mike when he yelled 3rd and 28. Hard to step back in without reps coming out of retirement out of shape fresh off of a high school championship. I guess he’s got the itch again. Very few people performed well last year he hardly performed at all so no need to kick him on the way out

  36. Ufc Says:

Jason cant himself to do anything for this team. Hes got ed of making this team get up for anything
Its pathetic. U got two star edge rushers out there Jason two!!!!! And u just lost the teams icon. Ur a disgrace

  37. thebigsombrero Says:

    Crosby failed the physical

  38. HeavyE Says:

Carr, Murray & Fields, should be brought in! One of the three, they can’t be any WORST, then what we have now at QB….

  39. Beeej Says:

I always wanted to see Trask in a game. But Canales doesn’t want him, Liam doesn’t want him, and Zac doesn’t want him…. ALL people who’ve witnessed him in real life. He’s had 5 years in the league, at least he gets his pension

  40. HeavyE Says:

Max, will end up in Dallas…..

  41. Lefty R Says:

Also, Offensive Guard Wyatt Teller is still available
He would be interesting to sign for a one or two year deal

  42. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Off Vegas a 3rd for Crosby and go get Hendrickson.

Plenty of good backup QBs available – and Murray would be fun for a game or two. Run pass option all game.

  43. LynchMob50 Says:

    Trade Baker now!

    ———-

I’m not saying I think Baker will lose the job, just laying out the case backup QBs should be making to themselves when picking a spot. This seems like one of the better spots. There is literally no viable backup at all, so worst case you’re getting that spot. And the offensive line should return to being one of the best in the league if everyone is healthy. Additionally Otton is a very good receiving TE. Plus the WR room is still very good – and really, at the end of the last season, the guy who leaped off the screen every week to me was McMillan who looked fantastic – it wouldn’t shock me if he ended 2026 as the Bucs top WR. Plus you got Bucky and now Gainwell at RB – this is a very very talented offensive team – and Baker was terrible to end last year (well except in week 18, when it no longer mattered, he did play well that game). So any backup that wants a starting gig in the future, would almost certainly want the Bucs backup spot.

But again, do the Bucs want a good backup – or do they think Baker has thin skin and will be an issue if the Bucs signed someone he might think could take his job. As you know, I’m no Baker Boi, but I don’t think Baker would be an issue, and it would hopefully push him to be better.

    Logan hall to the Texans

  47. Ufc Says:

Did he fail or they got cold feet. Thats one way out

  48. Erik with UniqueModernArt.com Says:

It doesn’t matter who sign/draft. I guarantee we don’t win the SB next season and we’ll be extremely lucky to not have another losing record.

    Bowles needs to go ASAP.

  49. CyberDilemma Says:

To be fair to Bridgewater, he didn’t look any more overwhelmed in that Rams game than Mayfield did. In fact, Bridgewater posted a 63.8 RTG that game compared to Mayfield’s 32.0.

  50. Simeon4HOF Says:

Id still take Crosby over Braswell tho

  51. JA Says:

I think Baker is his own worst enemy. I harken back to when Stefanski first signed with Atlanta …
Still waiting on a text/call” from his former Browns coach after being “shipped off like a piece of garbage”. Mayfield added, “Can’t wait to see you twice a year, Coach”.
Why do this? Is this the comment of a mature, adult male? This is lose-lose for Baker. This is the NFL. You don’t cry when traded.
If the Bucs beat Atlanta, nobody cares. But if they lose this gets thrown in his face. MAYFIELD EATS OWN WORDS
Perhaps Mike, a guy who believes actions are louder than words, saw too much inaction from ownership and too many words from his QB.
Meanwhile, the ongoing statuesque pose from Todd Bowles. No actions or words …

  52. Steve V. Says:

Cool,, why would the Texans want Hall ??

  53. bakerfan Says:

In other news…..Maxx Crosby deal to Ravens is OFF.

  54. DBS Says:

Lightning have turned in to Buccaneers. Same MO after the break.

  55. Co-Z Coolman Says:

Trade for Levis the Mayo man, or Anthony Richardson. Id take a young upside backup. Maybe we can find lightning in a bottle

  56. Crazyhorse54 Says:

This is a nothing burger. What is a headline is that Crosby failed his physical and the Ravens rescinded the trade. That means they will be hot after Hendrickson. If they were willing to overpay for Mad Max, the Ravens will overpay for Hendrickson. Dim Licht needs to get it in gear. He already missed on local linebacker, Jakoby Dean. Will he also miss on Hendrickson? Las Vegas is taking bets that he will.
This offseason is screaming that the owners and GM JL have messed the bed.

  57. BPBucsfan Says:

Don’t worry, the draft guru will fix everything.

  58. BPBucsfan Says:

    Hendrickson supposed to choose tomorrow.

  59. JohnQCitizen Says:

    Munch………. It’s getting old.

  60. BigBoiBuc Says:

    Chenel gone now.
Kaden Ellis gone now ( and in the division)
    WTH are we waiting on?????????????

  61. BPBucsfan Says:

We’re waiting for the blue light special.

  62. Simeon4HOF Says:

Tampa not even on list for Hendrickson odds to sign him lol
It’ll not happen. And our Defense sucks

  63. Simeon4HOF Says:

No more hospital balls to our #3 WR

  64. Crazyhorse54 Says:

JL has gotten lazy. He needs to be fired to wake him up. He is a failure. He and TB need to be shown the door. In the real world that would happen. In the wrong-headed ideological world of One Buc these two will be hailed as being incredible. We, in the real world, see it very differently.

  65. Will Says:

Hooray the neck fracturing thrower is gone. He will sit on the bench and collect $$$$$$$. Agreed the Bucs need to get a good backup soon. But with Licht and Bowels they are always behind the curve on things.
