Sonny Styles Puts On A Show — And Ends Chances Of Falling To Bucs?

February 27th, 2026

Please fall to the Bucs.

Joe has not changed his mind.

Joe has no use for the “Combine: The TV Show.” First, it is not the combine. The real combine happens at the Indiana Convention Center, across the street from Lucas Oil Station.

There, agents float about, often huddled with NFL general managers and/or coaches. Scuttlebutt and sourced rumors flow freely. The embryonic stages of trades and free agent signings are hatched. Real football business is conducted.

Some will argue the combine happens even more in the hotel lobbies surrounding the convention center and at St. Elmo over bourbon and steak.

What people see on that waste of electricity at an indoor track practice makes Joe laugh. And no, Joe has no use for 40 times. If a guy can’t tackle, can’t block, can’t catch, can’t cover, Joe doesn’t give a damn if he is Usain Bolt.

So last night Joe’s timeline on Twitter wa flooded with posts about how Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles blew people away in running and jumping. That’s nice but Joe’s watched film and live games of Styles and that proved to Joe this man can play.

Apparently, Styles ripped through his indoor track practice routine so well, it may have put him out of reach of the Bucs, who pick at No. 15 in the first round.

Joe has always typed that it’s impossible to see Styles get past Dallas at No. 12. After his show last night? Styles may not get out of the top-10.

If somehow Styles gets to the Bucs, whomever is in Pittsburgh for the draft representing the Bucs needs to sprint to the head table to turn the card in.

Joe loved Styles’ linebacker play before last night. After last night, Joe dreams of Styles ruling the football field sideline to sideline in ways that would make even Lavonte David and Derrick Brooks smile.

  1. MadMax Says:

Top 7-10 now…..but if he does make it, grab him. Ive been pushing him and Ioane. Still need to do more research on 2nd rounders….so far Trotter is sticking out, then Lawson in the 3rd.

  2. Ron Mexico Says:

Trading up to 10 for him would be totally worth it, but he’ll be gone by then.

At 15, maybe even trading back, we could end up with Howell or one of those NT’s, which is also a need. I’ve got complete trust in Licht to pick the best player available (I learned my lesson last year).

  3. Kenton Smith Says:

Jacob Rodriguez ran a 4.57. Not too shabby. Especially when you consider he’s the best defensive football player in the draft and would change our team the minute he gets to Tampa. It’d be great to get Styles. Especially if JRod could play with him and teach him some of the finer points of playing football.

  4. Aqualung Says:

Good thing that Bowles could have him playing to Sir Vocea Dennis level if the Bucs draft him.

3rd and 28 Bowles but not his fault

  5. ATLBuc Says:

We could trade Lavonte Bowles Loving David, Sirvocea Dennis and our one to move up

  6. Hodad Says:

David will be resigned, and he’ll start. Fans thinking he can play a part time role think again. You’re 3rd LB needs to be a core STs player. David is not chasing kicks. We have all given up on Dennis, has Bowles? Has Licht? We have to draft ILB OLB, but don’t be shocked if David, and Dennis are your opening day starters.

  7. Hopein1hand… Says:

I was surprised he was being mocked to the Bucs so much because his tape screams top ten in this draft. The Bucs need multiple LBs. As good as Styles is he is only one LB so moving up for him is out of the question. Simply drafting a LB in round one is draft malpractice and moving up to do so is worse. There are exceptions to all rules and Styles is one of those but there are many more good linebackers in this draft.

We all know who CJ Miller and Anthony Hill Jr are but I’m not sweating missing out on them either. LB is not a premium position so I’m looking at Jake Golday in in round 2-3, towering but fluid safety/LB hybrid Kendall Daniel’s from Oklahoma St in rounds 3/4 and Lander Barton from Utah in round 4/5. All three of these fellas are freaky athletes who are tall and long LBs who are voracious tackles but exceptionally fluid movers who make plays in coverage. Long active arms attached to spatially aware heads will make Bowles’ zone less soft in the middle.

My biggest reason for not crying over missing out on an opportunity to pick Styles is his lack of edge and passion. This defense needs animals. Multiple animals.

  8. Hopein1hand… Says:

Jake Golday and our hobbled pass rush savior/Super Bowl ticket David Walker abolutely wrecked spit at Central Arkansas together for a couple years, incidentally.

  9. Hopein1hand… Says:

More incidentally, the first official NFL combine, they called it the National Invitational Camp, was held in Tampa in 1982. It was organized by the National Football Scouting Inc. who invited 163 players to Tampa to gather medical information because the Jets (of course the Jets) had drafted a WR who was legally blind. The guy actually put together a nice little career for them regardless but something had to be done to make sure something like that never happened again. Thanks to Charles Darwin’s greatest invention/evolution here we are…

  10. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

Drafted too many crappy defense players in the. 2nd round.
Package the second round and move up for quality.

  11. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

Last year Campbell was mocked to the Bucs.
Passed on him last year Hey joe how did he do.

  12. Bucs Guy Says:

The price of winning in week 18 keeps getting worse.

  13. Kenton Smith Says:

In the backpedal and react drill Jacob Rodriguez hit 18 and a half miles per hour. Arvell Reece was second fastest at 17 and a half miles an hour. The fastest in the drill in the last 4 years for a linebacker. No wonder he was the highest ranked linebacker against the pass in college football. I guess it’s his instincts that had him the highest ranked linebacker against the run in college football. His leadership is probably why he won every single defensive award college football awards. And seeing how he had more turnovers than anyone in college football speaks to his relentless effort. I’m not sure what everyone else is seeing.

  14. HC Grover Says:

Bowzo won just enough to land a bad draft order. Another good job.

  15. Usfbucs Says:

Dream draft we land Styles and Rodriguez at ILB and Howell at Edge

  16. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Pretty much, I watched his 40 last night and audibly yelled “chill out!”

  17. Fanofdabucs Says:

Good for Sonny and good for the Bucs.

Build the trenches Edge or DL in round 1. Plenty of really good LBers to be had in rounds 2-3.

    Some Combo like:

    -Howell edge
    -J Rod Lber
    –Kyle Louis Lber

    Or

    -Banks or MacDonald DT
    -J Rod
    Malachi Lawrence Edge

  18. Becky Says:

I have been watching film and I really like CJ Allen the Georgia linebacker. He is not flashy like Styles, but he has great instincts, he is a great tackler, and he is more NFL ready than Styles. He has great leadership skills he has played 3 full seasons at Georgia, he is only 20 years old. He is going to be a really good solid football player. He is projected to go mid to late first round in particular at 19 to the Panthers. He would be a great addition to the BUCS.

  19. DS Says:

I like CJ Allen and Kyle Louis, those hybrid LB/SS guys make me nervous

  20. SlyPirate Says:

    CALIJAH KANCEY HAD THE
#1 40 TIME OF ANY DT EVER!!!!!

    Didn’t mean a thing.

  21. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    “Some Combo like:

    -Howell edge
    -J Rod Lber
    –Kyle Louis Lber

    Or

    -Banks or MacDonald DT
    -J Rod
    Malachi Lawrence Edge”

I’ve run mock drafts, and in some instances come away with Howell in the 1st. Banks/Hill jr in the 2nd and took Lawrence ahead of his pre-combine projection with our 4th pick at 116. That’s going to change now obviously.

Trey Moore out of Texas is another player that I’ve peeked in on, and he’s another one of those athletes at LB that’s spent time off-ball and rushing off the edge. Which is kind of up our alley, considering we asked Hasaan Reddick to do something similar just this past season.

  22. lambchop Says:

He’s been mocked as high as 7.

  23. BigZ Says:

Styles to the Commandos, watch. Bain might fall a bit because his arm length. Hunter, Sadiq or Messidor. We better make a move for Jrod. Hes going round 2.
If your a Sadiq hater, you clearly dont watch college football. Dude can run every route and is a solid blocker. We need a YAC tight end and a guy that can run imtermediate routes over the middle. Bake is not a deep ball QB, Sadiq would help him big time.
Tez, EE, Jmac and Sadiq for the next two plus years would be hug.

  24. Becky Says:

Nobody is a sadiq hater, but we should not even think about offensive players until we have made real progress on fixing our defense. Todd is delusional and thinks there is nothing wrong with his defense because he would have to admit his own shortcomings as a coach if he did.

  25. Todd Says:

I think Styles to the Jets or Giants. He doesn’t get out of Top 5, unfortunately.

  26. Defense Rules Says:

Fanofdabucs … ‘ -Banks or MacDonald DT … -J Rod … Malachi Lawrence Edge”

I’d take that in a heartbeat. Unless Styles or Resse is there at #15 (neiother will be), I’m hoping we go DT (McDonald my first choice; Banks 2nd choice). With our Rnd-2 pick grab the best remaining ILB (J Rod or Hill MIGHT be there). Best remaining Edge with our Rnd-3 pick is fine, as long as they’re a monster (no more little guys; we need BEEF). Also need 1 more ILB in the Top 4 Rnds, and this is the Year of the Linebacker.

Of course, last year was the Year of the DLine, and Jason totally whiffed. He doesn’t seem to realize that you don’t find defensive standouts in Rnds 5-7 of the draft or for $1-$2 mil for UFAs. Top quality players are rare, and require high draft picks AND lots of $$$ afterwards. And as long as they can stay healthy, they’re usually well worth it.

  27. MelvinJunior Says:

It’s BS that certain names and words prevent your comment from posting. I’m not going to sit here for an hour trying to figure-out which ‘word’ it was this time. I’m just going to say, did anyone see the tweet from NFL Researcher!? Crazy Stuff. Yeah, he’ll be long gone by #15. 💯 Unless, he just DUMBERN A ROCK and can’t friggin’ talk, or something.

  28. Bradinator Says:

I’d think that we would’ve had to trade up past Dallas at 12 to get him anyway. The price probably just went up. That said, the guy is likely an off the ball LB. Ask LVD how respect he gets for that.

  29. Ben Says:

    Freak. Fingers crossed he falls

  30. Letsbuccingo Says:

Joe has no use for the combine tv show well that’s the only time joe public can get a taste of football we are not as famous as joebuc to rub elbows with coaches in the lavish hotels hallways.

  31. BigZ Says:

Becky, you draft for the future not today. Sadiq is a baller. He needs to refine his blocking. Resign Ko to help with that.
Always draft BPA and not need. Need got us Braswell, Hall, JTS, MJ Stewart, Arguyo, etc.
Sadiq all day over Howell, Faulk, etc.
I like Delp in round 5 or 6..
But look at the league, pass catching TEs are nightmares for D coordinators.
Sadiq can run all routes. Who goes across the middle for us? Other than CG, the others cant.
Red Zone threat? Sadiq. ALWAYS Best Player Available.

  32. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“If your a Sadiq hater, you clearly dont watch college football. Dude can run every route and is a solid blocker.”

    {Booing intensifies}

The fact you have to sell the pick that hard, is because you know it doesn’t make sense and it’d be an ugly way to start our draft.

TE is literally the 3rd most important skill position on this team, 4th if you include the QB and we literally have a player on the roster at the same position that is comparable to Sadiq w/2 years of pro experience, well 3 now.

Like Jim Cornette would say “It’s like putting a hat, on a hat”

  33. Geno711 Says:

I appreciate you Kenton Smith although I rarely agree.

Saying Baker is the best QB
and now today saying Jacob Rodriguez is the best defensive player in the draft.

You go with some personal convictions.

  34. Bucfan1988 Says:

I hope some of the offensive draft pics blow up and cause a distraction tomm nm push Styles down a bit…..

If he gets to 11, Licht gotta make a move ahead of Dallas….

    Snag this kid!!!!!!!!

  35. Kenton Smith Says:

Geno711. The vast majority of the press credentialed folks in the US agreed that JRod was the best defender in college football. He had more Heismann votes than any defender in America. He won the Butkus award as the best linebacker in college football. He won the Bednarik award as the best defensive player in college football. Unanimous first team All American. And any other defensive award awarded. Most of the voters watch as much football as I do Geno711. So it’s not just my personal convictions. And thanks Geno711. I always have stood up for my convictions. I’m also very aware that I was convinced we’d win 14-15 games last season. So there’s that.

  36. BigZ Says:

Im not selling Sadiq. I watch CFB. Dude, you are clueless if you think we have a TE like Sadiq on the roster. Culp, sux. Durham hanging on by a thread, Ko JAG who blocks. Sadiq is a mid rd 1 pick all day long. If we pass hes a panther or niner.

Yeah, lets draft need and see how that works. Again, Braswell, Arguyo, MJ Stewart, Hall, JTS, White, to name a few. I suspect you would hate the Love pick if he was there at 15.
CJ Allen at 15 is a joke. Hes a tackler and not much else. Plenty of Allens in rd 2 and 3.

  37. Geno711 Says:

    Defense Rules Says:

“Of course, last year was the Year of the DLine, and Jason totally whiffed.”

I agree. But that does not mean that you take the Ohio State McDonald at 15. I am not sure that he is in the top 20 of defensive guys available in this draft.

Personally, I think the DE/edges in this draft are much stronger.

  38. Hopein1hand… Says:

I’m leaning toward all four of the Bucs’ picks being defense. That’s not simple need based drafting or balancing the roster it’s based on the available talent in this draft and the abundance of talented targets and protectors for Mayfield.

Folks are hot for dominant TEs but they’re just not in this draft. Sadiq is good but not great and will be over drafted. The same goes for DTs, everybody wants a squad of them but there are nothing but average players who will be over drafted due to positional emphasis.

I mentioned yesterday that MacDonald has the worst pass rush metrics of all DTs drafted in the last 7 years. Not out of first round DTs- out of all the DTs drafted in all those drafts. He’ll step in and be one of the best run stuffers in the league but all he has is an awkward bull rush. Banks is the opposite. He pushes the pocket back like a man among boys but his run defense metrics are historically bad. Worse than McDonalds pass performance. Banks has a 22% missed tackle rate. He and McDonald are third rounders in any other draft. Both are awesome but one-dimensionally so. The talent pool is just that shallow at DT this year.

In other evidence of how shallow the pool is, potential #2 pick Reese has never forced a turnover. Never. I’m not fawning over any first rounders this year. Reese is first round talent but he is back end first round talent. Very flashy but where is the production? Of any kind?

  39. Joe Says:

Last year Campbell was mocked to the Bucs.
Passed on him last year Hey joe how did he do.

Will Campbell??? What was he going to do, clean cleats on the sidelines? LOL The Bucs brought back all five starters from an excellent offensive line (when healthy).

Which fool had Will Campbell going to the Bucs? ROTFLMAO!!!

  40. BigBoiBuc Says:

If we draft TE at 15, we deserve to suck. Not that the kid isnt a great TE and will be good in this league, but because of our other needs. We dont know what we have in our TE room because they all grossly regressed under Griz and his awful scheme. Look what Coen did immediately when he got to Jax. 4 TEs, all used in the schemes, all to their strengths.

For a good TE room, you need:
All around solid – we have, 88
Blocker, move the chains, red zone- we have, 87
Mismatch, seam weapon – we have, 82
Short yardage, heavy blocker, fullback – we have, 41

Use them to what they do. Other than giving Cade a decent/fair raise- this doesn’t cost much! Spend money elsewhere. And let’s not suck!!!

  41. Kenton Smith Says:

Hopein1hand. I know what Bowles believes is the first job for his defense. He believes in stopping the run first. That’s one thing I would have to agree with. If we got McDonald it would be great. He’s looking like the Bears (25th) first pick. Unless we get him first. I’d be happy with him, especially if we could get JRod too.

  42. Kenton Smith Says:

    Joe. Jihad Campbell.

  43. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Dude, you are clueless if you think we have a TE like Sadiq on the roster. Culp, sux. Durham hanging on by a thread, Ko JAG who blocks. Sadiq is a mid rd 1 pick all day long. If we pass hes a panther or niner.”

My point is, there’s nothing special about Sadiq or dire about our TE situation, that’d we’d take some kind of blow or make some kind of mistake NOT drafting Sadiq, because he’s not that special. Also, we literally swung and missed on 2 high end TEs in our draft history, and I could start throwing names like Eric Ebron about first round TEs that don’t work out long term.

Also, after Bucky, whomever else is in the RB, plus the combo of Godwin, J-Mac, and Egbuka, how TF are we going to rationilize taking a 1st round talent for a poisiton we’ve targeted 3rd most every year the past 3 years? We’ve barely tapped the potential of the guys not named Otton in our TE room since drafting them.

“Which fool had Will Campbell going to the Bucs? ROTFLMAO!!!”

Uh, pretty sure he’s talking about Jihad Campbell and if so, lots of fools

  44. DS Says:

We took Devin white high he had a great combine lol ijs. Kyle Louis or cj allen love the throwback game they play

  45. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Sadiq is a Redzone nightmare. We have had one of those in Buc history. Other than Gronk you guys have never seen one here. Totally changes the offense for the better.

Bigboy thinks we have the TE position covered by our current roster. 1.) Culp, Keife, and whomever are never on the field and shown out. 2.) Sadiq is all those qualities listed by BigBuc in one player. If they draft Sadiq they can cut Culp and Feife and bring in some new blood into what is now and under performing TE group.

  46. BigBoiBuc Says:

@BucFanInOregon, obviously you have Duck bias pretty bad. Dont get hung up on Sadiq college stats. He scored TDs against RuthersX2, Montana State and James Masson. Don’t fall for college stats. Very misleading. Let me know if you want a really good example.

    Senior Year
    TE #1
    51 catches
    560 yards
    8 TDS
    14 games
    Big10 schedule
    #1 target In offense
    Great team

    TE #2
    56 catches
    560 yards
    8 TDs
    13 games
    Big10 schedule
    #4 target on offense
    Bad team

  47. BigBoiBuc Says:

    @BucsFanInOregon
Sadiq scored 11 TDs at Oregon. 5 were Redzone. Nightmare? Research bruh.

  48. Becky Says:

Big Z I won’t argue with you, but everybody on this comment forum is commenting on the people they want drafted to help us in the coming season, so I guess maybe you should let them ALL know that information. As bad as our defense was last season I have no doubt there are players in the draft who can play and do better. Like Georgia lnebacker CJ Allen who is more NFL ready than Sonny Styles. So while do I know that the draft is meant to be about the future, that isn’t what most of the people on here are counting on. They are counting on immediate help from this draft. And don’t forget, Emeka and Tez were rookies who played all season for us. I just don’t know why you singled me out . Or do I?

  49. BigZ Says:

Yeah were stacked at TE, Culp. Payne and maybe Ko. LOL. Sadiq is a Prp Bowl talent.
You will hate the Howell or Faulk pick, of JL goes that route. Hey its a need.

If Bucs pay for Bake, he will need a TE. Jmac could be gone in two years…
Bucs met qith Sadiq, we shall see.

Again never draft an ILB that high like we did with White.

FA could change all of this.

  50. BigZ Says:

U r crazy of Allwn ia better than Styles.
I live Georgia and watch uga. U get fired for that pick at 15.
    Just stop. Draft BPA.

  51. BigBoiBuc Says:

@BigZ. Didn’t say we were stacked at TE. Just stupid to take one At pick 15.

  52. BigZ Says:

Stupid would be Allen, Howell, McDonald, Faulk at 15.

A YAC TE who can run all routes, with strength, speed and agility is a nightmare matchup.

Id be happy with Mesidor or Hunter at 15, but Sadiq is a player.

    Have you watched him?

  53. Kenton Smith Says:

BigZ. If we don’t fight to keep Otten we oughta line up management and horsewhip them. If we draft anything other than defensive front seven with our first 4 picks then they should be lined up and bullwhipped.

  54. Gipper Says:

Joe has confirmed what I know about Sonny Styles. Likely, not available at 15 but would like to read Joe’s analysis of CJ Allen and Kenton Smith favorite Jacob Rodriguez. Both look like quality LB’s and would be good alternatives. Rodriguez is always around the ball and ran a better than expected 40.

  55. Rod Munch Says:

Any chance of him falling went out the window. I think he’s now a lock for top 10, the question is if he moves into the top 7.
