Moving Quickly On Logan Hall
February 23rd, 2026
For Joe, the NFL Scouting Combine is all about information gathering and mingling with important NFL types, and making sure to avoid Mark Sanchez if he’s on the downtown Indianapolis streets after midnight.
(Yeah, Joe will talk to college prospects and oily agents, too.)
But soaking up information is key, and thinking about pending Bucs free agent defensive tackle Logan Hall tonight, Joe recalled intel gleaned at a recent combine.
Back in the 2023 offsason, the Bucs wanted to keep defensive tackle Rakim Nuñez-Roches, aka Nacho, a steady and strong guy who started most games during the Super Bowl season of 2020. However, the New York Giants pounced harder and faster than the Bucs expected and Nacho was gone while the echo of the 2023 free agency dinner bell could still be heard.
That got Joe wondering if the Bucs will move quickly on pending free agent DT Logan Hall, Tampa Bay’s 2022 second-round draft pick.
Consider what Todd Bowles said about Hall in January as the head coach wrapped up the 2025 season on the Buccaneers Radio Network.
“Really Logan Hall doesn’t get a lot of credit, but he plays very hard,” Bowles said. “I thought Elijah [Roberts] had a promising start to his rookie year right there. And obviously Greg [Gaines] is Steady Eddie, so we have guys that can step in there.”
Roberts was a rookie last year and Gaines is a pending free agent and turns 30 in May.
Hall, Joe suspects, is a guy Bowles wants back on his roster. He turns 26 in May and still has upside, plus Bowles probably would love to see what new Bucs defensive line coach Marcus West does with Hall.
The Bucs can re-sign Hall at any time. The free agency dinner bell rings Monday, March 9.
Joe suspects there will be at least one strong bidder for Hall. While he’s not a great player, anybody drafted that early (No. 33 overall) always has another team or two that “loved him” in the draft but didn’t get him. Heck, even Joe Tryon-Shoyinka got $4 million+ in free agency last year.
Joe wouldn’t spend a lot of money on Hall, but the Bucs very well might.

This is the prove it year for TB & JL. They will or they will not. Time will tell.
February 23rd, 2026 at 10:32 pm
Why. The front zone played with no fire. Upgrade please
February 23rd, 2026 at 10:36 pm
Hall is actually a 67 pff, which places him in the top THIRD of DI’s
February 23rd, 2026 at 11:36 pm
If you want no pass rush and just run stoppers, keep doing what Bucs have been doing
February 23rd, 2026 at 11:43 pm
Umm I have nothing against Hall but it seems to me we should be looking for upgrades despite what Todd thinks.
I am not seeing many safe spots on our defensive roster Joe.
Go Bucs!

I wouldn’t mind if we resigned Hall. He will never be a star or give you massive production, but he also doesn’t make a lot of mistakes and he’s pretty good at everything. Maybe something in the neighborhood of 3 @ $18M? I could live with $6M a year for an average starter.
February 24th, 2026 at 12:36 am
He’s OK, ideally he’d be a back-up. When talking money, just keep in mind the cap keeps going up and up, so what cost $5M two years ago is now going to cost more like $7M. I’d guess Hall would get something in that range, sort of how Gholston would get $4M deals a few years ago.
February 24th, 2026 at 12:49 am
I’m thinking along the lines of what Rod Munch posted, he could be a depth piece, nothing more. Look, the guy’s biggest claim to fame is ending Ryan Jensen’s career which kind of initiated the nose dive of 2022 where the Bucs went from true contenders under BA to also rans under Todd Bowles. An endorsement by Bowles has zero credibility in most qaurters except at OBP where the powers that be chose to give Todd one more chance so it is likely if Todd wants to try and use this pseudo bust (remember that Hall was the 1st pick of day 2 the 2022 draft after Jason traded out of the first round) then he will probably get the opportunity to. ….
February 24th, 2026 at 12:56 am
Yep. Hall has had a ton of impact, game changing plays. And when he’s not being coached up by mastermind Bowles to improve his craft, he’s practicing taking out opponents pro bowl players. The Ryan Jensen episode was simply Hall trying out a
move to cripple an opposing center. The rumor that Hall is an oaf is unfounded.
February 24th, 2026 at 1:53 am
Hall did well enough we definitely need to keep him and let him develop further. There’s potential there in a rotation especially.
February 24th, 2026 at 2:52 am
Hall, JTS, and Braswell are all 1st or 2nd Round picks that have played like 6th or 7th Round picks. Kind of makes you wonder if Bowles saying of “Play it better, coach them better” is BS.
February 24th, 2026 at 3:22 am
If there’s upside then now would be a good time to see it.
February 24th, 2026 at 4:59 am
Compare Hall, Roberts, and Gains to what the Seahawks have at DT. There is no comparision. Bowles is going to want everyone back, including David, and Dennis. This will be another .500 season. Arrogant, stubburn, and delusional.

Rod Munch Says:

This.
I think we have at least one other Gholston-like player as well.
Roberts, on the other hand, is expendable…if needed.
February 24th, 2026 at 5:10 am
I wonder…does Licht surprise everyone and go DT in the first round? Vea is getting up there in years…
February 24th, 2026 at 6:42 am
@Buccaneer Bonzai
As long as it’s either D or an OL & not a TE or WR I think people would be fine with it.
February 24th, 2026 at 7:34 am
I agree with the above – Hall reminds me of Gholston. A solid but not great player.
Hall has also stayed relatively healthy over his 4 years in Tampa and his PFF grade has steadily improved every season.
I would re-sign him if possible – this team has enough holes to fill on defense and finding a better option is easier said than done…
February 24th, 2026 at 8:00 am
Yep Bowles keep it up I’m glad you want another steady Eddie for a starter. I can’t wait for you to get fired after this throwaway season, I’m pretty sure they’ll be lazy and resign short old Greg Gaines too. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen Logan hall on skates being pushed all over the line. The team is mediocre and people keep saying we need talent but yea sign a mediocre player and pay him more than anyone else would🤣
February 24th, 2026 at 8:27 am
I have been destroying the bucs for keeping Bowles all offseason but I do have to say hes a solid player…
I think fans get too excited about draft picks. A second-round pick is going to be a starter that is what Logan Hall is. He is not elite but many if not most, second-round picks arent. We have a TON of issues on the defense but Logan Hall isn’t one of the biggest fish to fry lol. If we can get him back its one less thing to worry about and will allow us to focus on LB & EDGE. Our two biggest issues.
February 24th, 2026 at 8:29 am
Buccaneer Bonzai
I agree with this as well. Our top needs are EDGE & MLB BUT there is a chance that the Cowboys move on our guy at MLB and EDGE rushers almost never fall to 15. We would have to get lucky. I would think taking a top DT/DE would be an outstanding move for the front 7.
Lucky for us, there is no shortage of serviceable to excellent FA options at MLB. Its the EDGE position that is going to be the real challenge.
February 24th, 2026 at 8:29 am
Bonzai … ‘I wonder…does Licht surprise everyone and go DT in the first round? Vea is getting up there in years’.
I REALLY hope that he does (and yes it would surprise me if he picked a DT in Rnd 1).
I’ve become a huge fan of Ohio State’s Kayden McDonald (6’3″ & 326 lbs). He’s not only the ultimate run-stuffer, but also has the beef to push double-teams right back into the QB’s lap. Reminds me size-wise of Wirfs (legs like tree trunks). He’s the beastly DT/NT we need to improve the interior of our DLine (and yes, it needs improving big-time). Plus he’s a perfect replacement for Vita Vea when the time comes.
February 24th, 2026 at 9:12 am
@ DR
I am also a fan of Ohio State’s Kayden McDonald…
Would love to see our GM move back a few spots in round 1 (grab an extra 3rd round pick) and draft him.
Kancey is obviously injury prone, Hall might be gone and Vea is no Spring chicken.

Meh

Marine Buc … ‘Hall reminds me of Gholston. A solid but not great player.’
Exactly. Will (6’6″ & 281 lbs) & Logan (6’6″ & 283 lbs) are virtually the same size, except that Gholston transformed himself when Ndamukong Suh arrived in 2019. Will put on about 20 lbs that year and it really paid off. In 2020 he was a beast: 3 sacks, 20 QB Hits, 8 TFL & 44 tackles (24 solo) with a Missed Tackle Rate of only 4.3%. Gave us 606 def snaps that year in 16 games.
He had another great year in 2021: 4.5 sacks, 11 QB Hits, 7 TFL, 36 tackles (21 solo) with a Missed Tackle Rate of only 5.3%. All that was in about 100 fewer snaps (507) in 17 games. When Suh wasn’t re-signed in 2022 however, Will’s productivity pretty much ended. He played another 3 yrs (50 games) with 1 sack, 9 QB Hits & 5 TFLs total.
The impact that Suh had on our entire defense shouldn’t be under-estimated. He was ‘the beast with attitude’ that we desperately needed in the middle of our DLine. Guys like Gholston & Hall are OK when they’re playing alongside beasts like that. Logan’s a good run defender, but a seemingly inconsistent pass rusher. IF we upgrade the interior DLine by drafting a top DT/NT then keeping Hall might make sense (but playing him further out at DE).

@ DR and Marine
You’re singing my song. Love McDonald and moving back in the 1st. I also like the Banks kid from UF.
They’ll keep Hall to save face for the high draft pick. Still has a chance to improve.
February 24th, 2026 at 10:25 am
@ DR
Man do I miss Suh and JPP on this team…
There hasn’t been that type of nasty tough leadership since the days of Sapp and Brooks.
February 24th, 2026 at 10:26 am
and Lynch…
February 24th, 2026 at 12:22 pm
my crazy scenario. keep hall, because you need youth and depth. let evans walk, let david retire, trade vea for a mid round draft pick. use the money to sign a young, good LB and EDGE. use the vea DP and maybe another pick to get thibodeaux from the giants. 1st 3 picks in this years draft – lb, edge, dt. sorry, but evans, david, and vea are done. time to get younger, healthier, and more productive.
February 24th, 2026 at 12:38 pm
I’m not sure about Hall, Nelly had a good year but I don’t think either has been a keep your head down and work kinda guy. A child’s hand full of plays for each isn’t enough for the amount of time they’ve been here. Cade has been trying pretty hard but needs to be better as well. Other teams know what we have here and take advantage of what they see on tape. If they all stay in Tampa It’s Time to show up because it should be bye bye for Nelly and Hall.
February 24th, 2026 at 12:46 pm
Let Hall walk…He was unspectacular over the course of his 4yrs in Tampa….Look for Elijah Roberts to step up while also drafting another 3-4 DE on Day 2.
Really like ALA’s LT Overton as solid fit for Bowles defensive scheme.
February 24th, 2026 at 1:04 pm
The cry for more center cut beef will likely go for naught.
February 24th, 2026 at 1:28 pm
He has never replaced Gholston.
Gholston was scary!
Offensive tackles hated playing against Gholston!
He was relentless and VIOLENT.
Hall is NOT violent. He’s fast. But weak.
I want a prototypical 3-4 DE. A 6-6, 310 pound beast who punishes offensive tackles. Exhausting them so in the 4th quarter our EDGE players can get sacks.
The DE in our defense is vital to freeing up our EDGE players.
Hall needs to be UPGRADED.
February 24th, 2026 at 1:36 pm
Backup role player.
February 24th, 2026 at 3:29 pm
Never lived up to expectations..working hard is not working smart -same as our HC.
we need Upgrade
February 24th, 2026 at 4:20 pm
Defense Rules – The comparison to Gholston in my mind is about him being a guy who you didn’t always want starting, but could start, and in any case was a valuable backup, even if the stat sheet didn’t always show it. Gholston was also a guy who was pretty slow to develop, but just sort of stuck around forever, then eventually really started earning respect for being a pro’s pro. Hall has a higher pedigree, so more was wanted from him, but just because he never became a stud doesn’t mean he should be cast off.
Obviously depends on the market, if someone is going to pay him based on where he was drafted then he’d be expensive to keep, but as a $5M/year guy, who is still developing, I’d keep him around. But if someone is giving him like $8M/year or more, then yeah, I’m not paying that.
February 25th, 2026 at 8:08 am
Hall is not the issue. The difficulty is not having a 15 sack edge rusher and until this is resolved through FA it will remain the problem. So do it Licht.
