The Bucs And Tyler Allgeier

January 24th, 2026

Lavonte David shoves Atlanta running back Tyler Allgeier out of bounds.

Long before the Bucs dumped fall-guy offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard and hired fired Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, one Joe spoke multiple times on the Ira Kaufman Podcast about the Bucs signing pending free agent running back Tyler Allgeier.

The Falcons’ 2022 fifth-round pick exploded as a rookie with 1,035 yards on 210 carries for a sad Falcons team that had miserable Marcus Mariota starting at quarterback. That meant all eyes were on the Faclons run game and Allgeier thrived.

Then the Falcons drafted Bijan Robinson and Allgeier settled into a complementary role. Over the next three seasons, Allgeier rushed for 1,841 yards on 466 carries, an average of 3.95 yards per rush and many of those efforts were in short yardage.

Joe loves how Allgeier has never fumbled in the NFL and how he found the end zone 8 times last year on the ground. He’s no Rachaad White in the passing game, but Allgeier is known as a punishing pass blocker. The data nerds have lauded him for years.

At 25 years old with relatively low mileage on his legs, Joe likes how powerful Allgeier would look in the Bucs backfield, where Bucky Irving hasn’t proven durable or to be a special red zone runner.

Unfortunately, Allgeier will be in demand in free agency. But if the Bucs feel they can’t count on Irving and think they might have to score 30 points a game to get in the playoffs, Allgeier would be a heck of a pickup. There’s no doubt he could hit the ground running.

He would be a nice addition, Let’s Go Bucs!!!

  2. Rod Munch Says:

RBs never get paid, I doubt he’d get more than maybe $4m or so – but who knows, I could be wrong as RBs also weren’t being drafted high for a long time and now suddenly they are, plus the ever inflating cap is making it more difficult to predict salaries from year to year. Still, he’s not getting starter money, just top #2 money – I think. But Allgeier would be a nice fit with Bucky, in particular as a pass blocker – which White excelled at and he’s going to really be missed in that role unless they bring in another top-notch pass blocker. In the receiving role, I’m OK with handing off most of that to Bucky, who has excellent hands and should be more involved in the passing game.

  3. Lakeland Says:

I like the combination of Rachaad White and Tyler Allgeier

Not so much the combination of Bucky Irving and Tyler Allgeier
Rachaad White do the dirty work, blocking, jumping on Mayfield fumbles
He catches the ball out of the backfield, he’s a complete RB
Allgeier and Bucky are not complete RBs

    They don’t compliment each other

  4. Lakeland Says:

Jason Licht extended trash like Zyon McCollum with a bag

But he’s gonna let Rachaad White walk

    Lol

  5. Vegasbuc Says:

    Fire Todd

  6. Vanessa Anne Says:

We would be foolish not to at least kick the tires on Allgier and see if we can swing a deal.

@Lakeland has a good point about catching the ball out of the backfield, but it’s highly unlikely Rachaad will be back.

Allgier is solid, and with Bucky being a bit of a question mark, he would give us a known entity while we simultaneously give Sean Tucker a few more snaps to see what he can really do.

  7. TheDailyCoroner Says:

    Two good backs. Yep.

  8. Co-Z Coolman Says:

    Why? Sean Tucker is better

  9. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

    Solid player! All for it

  10. eric Says:

Two words Sean Tucker, all the dude does is produce when given a chance!

  11. Newbie Says:

Can he blitz off the edge?

  12. Woodman Says:

They ain’t going to sign both of them Lakeland that is why they are interested Algeir to replaced White. Algiers is cheaper

  13. Woodman Says:

Been plenty of times Tucker ain’t produced.

  14. Tom Petty Says:

Why the repeated reference to Grizz as the “fall-guy” ? Smh

Regarding Tyler Allgeier. Decent back but do we need another Sean Tucker type ? Rather see us pick up a speedster with more elusiveness and explosiveness…. Ideally a good pass catcher too.

I think Robinson would do a better job utilizing RE but I guess he’s history now.

  15. Tim Says:

Hit the ground running. A little on the nose, eh?

  16. Tom Petty Says:

    *RW

I’m beginning to think football season might be cancelled this year anyway 🤷🏼

  17. Ballwasher61 Says:

Robinson might prefer White over Allgeier. White has improved at the line and picking holes, not to mention his pass blocking. White may also like Robinson coming in, but will Bowles keep him after White called him out for the hot hand remark?

  18. gotbbucs Says:

Well, if we learned anything this season, its that Bucky isnt a bell cow back and Tucker has a small sample size. Allgeier is already proven to be effective in Robinson’s offense. If the price is right I have no idea why they wouldn’t try to sign him.

  19. FortMyersDave Says:

White has made it abundantly clear that he will not be back especially when he told the world what he thought of Bowles. Cannot blame the kid, Bowles/Grizz kept on spouting off about a hot hand but then proceeded to feed Bucky the ball when White was the one who managed to maje plays behind the bad OL. White is a good teammate and helped Bucky his rookie year but has decided to find a better sutuation. I think the locker room had issues last year, we saw Bucky go off on the OL in Miami, and the hot hand reference by Bowles was just a bunch of malarkey as were most of his excises last season Good luck Raschaad.

  20. lambchop Says:

    @Lakeland,

Rachaad has soured on the Bucs because they didn’t utilize him as promised. That’s on the OC and HC, what does Jason Licht have to do with it? He can’t retain White if White is already out the door on his way to Washington.

  21. Marine Buc Says:

    Depends on the price tag…

I wouldn’t mind if the Bucs draft another RB in rounds 4-6.

    Never overpay for a RB.

  22. Popmike66 Says:

I think the Bucs are gonna go after Allgeier anyway, they have to replace White and he seems to be a great piece and should make a hell of a combo with Bucky and Tucker. I like White as a WR but at RB he stunk

  23. MelvinJunior Says:

I’ve always liked Allgeier. He’s definitely a solid back who shows up and does what is asked of him. The problem for him and RWhite both this off-season, is this particular RB free agency class. It’s LOADED. I haven’t looked at it recently, but there will be AT LEAST probably a half a dozen BETTER options. With that said, it could end up working out well for them landing on better teams and maybe a little better situation, BUT for far less money and guarantee! If I were them I would embrace-it by betting on myself, and signing only on a 1-year deal. Then, hit the free agency market AGAIN next offseason, when they might be able to ‘cash-in’ on a much better deal, which would probably be THEIR LAST ‘multi-year’ deals with guaranteed money. And yeah, that going with the “hot hand” BS was nothing but a bunch of HOG WASH. Just more smoke from this coaching staff. RWhite was by far the superior and more effective back this season. I would like to see him in “The Big-D” with the Dak-Attack, & THAT OFFENSE. He would be THE perfect fit as a blocker for Dak, and also coming outta the backfield. If I’m his agent, I’m wearing Jerry TF OUT and banging on his door.

  24. PewterStiffArm Says:

Bucky Irving is not an every down back, period. For those that think that he is, you are wrong. If there is an opportunity to add a running back of Allgeier’s quality is definitely a plus and a half. Remember, he has always played well during our games. The more the merrier, bring him on if possible.

  25. RagingBrisket Says:

Licht is too afraid of his own talent evaluation and should probably call Tom Brady to know if it’s okay to sign Allgeier.
Licht is the biggest liability in the organization

  26. RagingBrisket Says:

Why are my comments being pulled?

  27. exBrowns02 Says:

No. Just bring White back into the fold. Robinson will put him to work.

Rachaad is simply too versatile. Because of his versatility, his contributions go unsung.

  28. Will Says:

Joe this sounds like a good idea if We can get him. I think White is leaving for good.

  29. Larrd Says:

Irving, Tucker, Josh Williams and a UDFA or two is fine. Spend the money elsewhere, please.

  30. Bartow Buc Says:

Love this Joe !! The Buccaneers need a workhorse back. Do you think Zac Robinson will be able to help make this happen ??

    Go Bucs !!

  31. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Maybe we can get him and Pitts to come over in a package deal. They are buds. Both have visited the middle school I teach at for the last two years, and always give the kids lots of good gifts. Would be cool if both were Bucs.

  32. garro Says:

Algier has alway looked dangerous when we played Atlanta. Worth a shot. Cost may be too high though. Never fumbled? Wow!

    Go Bucs!

  33. MelvinJunior Says:

“Rachaad is simply too versatile. Because of his versatility, his contributions go unsung.”

I’ll agree with that! He’s been a damn good player for us. I really hate seeing him go. It could really be best FOR HIM though, if he winds up in the right situation with the right team. I think both Carolina and Dallas could be GREAT for him. Canales would use him the right way, with how he did in Tampa. And, for whatever reason (actually several), I’ve always seen him as being a ‘great fit’ in Dallas, over the past two-years!!!!

  34. MelvinJunior Says:

“Irving, Tucker, Josh Williams and a UDFA or two is fine. Spend the money elsewhere, please.”

I would agree with this, too! Unfortunately, it’s just what we are left being stuck with. It is what it is.

  35. MelvinJunior Says:

“Maybe we can get him and Pitts.”

Not happening. I can’t see any possible way, that they allow HIM to just walk, & without getting ANYTHING back in return. Especially, one of their BEST ‘PREMIER’ WEAPONS with a brand new ‘offensive’ head coach. They’ll just franchise him at the very worst, if they cannot reach a longterm deal. Now, they might decide to move off of him at the ‘deadline’ IF they’re tanking by then, and the season is already lost.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    I’d pass.

  37. ATLBuc Says:

If we get anybody from the Falcons, it should be Kyle Pitts. It’s been a while since we’ve had production from the tight end position and Pitts is a free agent this year.

  38. ATLBuc Says:

Why would we settle for Algiers? The 2026 NFL free agent running back class is headlined by high-profile, young starters including Breece Hall, Travis Etienne, Kenneth Walker III, and Javonte Williams. Other notable, experienced backs scheduled to hit the market include Rico Dowdle, Rachaad White, Isiah Pacheco, and Najee Harris.

  39. Rod Munch Says:

I’d agree with bringing back White, but he’s made it pretty clear he wants out of town for whatever reason. If he can pass block, then he slides into the role White was playing.

As for the dummies still talking about Tucker … it’s very unlikely he even gets tendered. He still might come back, but who cares. The guy can’t block at all, that’s why he’s rarely on the field. As a runner, he’s fine for a 3rd on the depth chart guy, but that’s all he is. And yes, even Keyshawn Vaughn had a 100 yard game, that doesn’t mean you’re good, pretty much every RB in the NFL has the ability to have a 100 yard game. What makes you a good RB is consistency — and blocking — and Tucker offers neither. Again, as a 3rd on the depth chart guy, sure, bring him back – but he’s nothing more than that.

  40. adam from ny Says:

anyone thinking ko kieft as a fullback type blocker, on a little more than just an occasion…since it looks like white is long gone…?

    i’d pass on algier

  41. Todd Says:

    Yawn

  42. Beeej Says:

Adam that’s why I hope we re-sign him. Guy is a GREAT blocker. Had a 80 pff before he broke his leg or whatever it was

  43. FrontFour Says:

Larrd is spot on: Irving, Tucker a Josh McWilliams.
That said Algier is a helluva back, tough to not give him a look, but with such a weak roster on D, that’s where the time a money needs to go. BTW, White is history. Once he lost his starting job to Bucky he wanted out and was pissed. Joe has talked about this on Saturdays on WDAE. No way he comes back and I’m fine with that.
