Oblique Injury For Tristan Wirfs

December 3rd, 2025

The Buccaneers’ new passing weapon would not have been able to practice today if the Bucs had scheduled a real practice.

That’s the word on the official Wednesday injury report issued last this afternoon. Wirfs was the only active Buccaneer with “did not participate” designation.

As noted earlier, Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan practiced on a limited basis. Officially, they remain on injured reserve but could be activated at any time.

Chris Godwin (fibula) and Bucky Irving (shoulder) remain on the report and were listed as limited along with Baker Mayfield (left shoulder).

Rookie cornerback Benjamin Morrison (hamstring) and Haason Reddick (ankle) were full-go.

    Of course.🤦🏻‍♂️
    He’ll play but still.

  2. Saskbucs Says:

Challenge the team to get up 21+ at halftime, really put the pedal down in the first half as if the playoffs depended on it… then get Wirfs out and give Chukwama some reps.

I’m just daydreaming here, obviously that won’t happen but these skill position guys coming back mean nothing if we lose Wirfs. Baker, Wirfs, Goedeke, Brederson, Evans, Bucky, Emeka… that’s about the order of importance for the offense it seems, imo. Brederson over Mike and Bucky debatable probably.

  3. Larrd Says:

I read somewhere yesterday that one of those ranking outfits had Wirfs as third highest graded left tackle in pass blocking this season. It seems like he has struggled some with all the injuries, but he’s still playing at a pretty decent level. Almost all left tackles give up sacks and hold from time to time. We’ve been spoiled.

  4. Kgh4life Says:

This Bowles coached team will never blow any team out, even the bad ones. Bowles likes to keep things close.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

That is, by far, the healthiest injury report this season.

  6. Buddha Says:

    23-3 is a blowout!

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Agreed , Rod.

  8. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

What a weird years it’s been, yet still we’re 7-5 which most of us would have taken at season’s start. Let’s go on a run and do something in the playoffs. If not, let’s get some changes. No excuses.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Looking back at last year at this time…

    Nov 24 – W, 30-7 @ Giants
    Dec 1 – W, 26-23 @ Panthers
    Dec 8 – W 28-13 vs Raiders
    Dec 15 – W 40-17 @ Chargers
    Dec 22 – L 26-24 @ Cowboys
    Dec 29 – W 48-14 Panthers

Averaged 32.6 points a game on offense.
Gave up 16.6 points a game on defense.

The offense really needs to step it up, and with Bucky and Godwin seemingly being a full go now, plus Evans and McMillan being back, that is a huge influx of talent and Baker won’t have any excuses to keep playing how he’s played lately. And to be clear, I think a lot of the struggles have been lack of receivers, starting a 7th rounder and a washed up vet like Shepard is not ideal (and I like Tez, but starting him is rough at this point in his career). I think Baker will step it up, hopefully starting this week. But we also need Grizz to show-up and call some good games, something he’s not done much of this year. But, again, like with Baker, with all the injuries, maybe he thinks that has made him call the same few plays over and over again in the same order – we shall see.

On defense, they too will be helped if the offense is putting up points – I think. Actually, so long as there’s no injuries, I’m not too worried about the defense. But heaven help us if someone in the defensive backfield so much as stubs a toe – we saw what happened to the defense when Dean went out on the first series in Buffalo, and missed the Rams game. Bowles went into his super soft zone defense, and we saw the same results we always see when he does that. But, if guys are healthy, Bowles does a much better job, so I think they can hold up their end of the bargain.

The biggest worry I have is that this is a divisional game, and the Bucs already blew out the Saints once. Generally speaking, that just doesn’t happen twice in the same season. Not say it won’t happen, or can’t happen, just that it’s not the norm.

With that said, I’m really wanting to see a nice 38-3 style blow-out – see Baker finally have a big day for the first time since Seattle and to finally get hot as we’re now in the stretch run. Getting back all his weapons should play a huge role in that.

  11. HeartyDickerson Says:

“if the Bucs had scheduled a real practice.”

Honest question, when is the last time the Bucs had a real practice?

  12. Truth be Told Says:

Can he rush the passer too? The Putrid Pass Defense needs to improve, or this team is not going anywhere this year. Go Bucs!

  13. Hunter Says:

As an Orlando Magic fan, I had to watch our stars get oblique injuries last year.

They each described it as one of those weird ones that you can’t really do any rehab other than giving it time to heal, and it just seems to drag out much longer than expected.

Wirfs is a stud, but we need to be careful with this one.

Oblique injuries are often 1–2 months of recovery…

  14. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Time for Chukwuma?

  15. David Says:

    Rod Munch
    Good info.

On paper the offense should be better this year, but they’ve been decimated by injury so I give them leeway. They have shown glimpses of what they’re capable of. They should really start getting on a good run heading to the playoffs.

The defense is a concern. They’ve been mostly healthy and have regressed. They’ve shown flashes and won a couple games early, but when going against a good coach and quarterback, the blitzing doesn’t work. Unfortunately, if they sit back in zone and don’t blitz that doesn’t work either.
On paper, they have better players than they did last year.
Kancey is a bigger loss against the pass than many realize, but for the most part, it is scheme. These players are too damn talented to be given up 30-40 points occasionally.

  16. Oscar Says:

Tristan struggled against Chase Young in the first meeting. I hope it’s a minor strain. What do we do if he can’t go, shuffle the line again like we did at the beginning of the season?

  17. Let em bake Says:

If you would’ve been told the Bucs would go 3-1 against the nfc west, would you still be screaming for Todd’s head? The number one seed is still very viable . Philly can easily drop a few more. Ditto the bears and rams . We have the tie breaker against Seattle. Not likely, but let’s see in 2 weeks were they stand. Go Mike !

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

So Morrison is a full go.

Until his toast gets injured(burned) again.

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

Rod , yep we generally split the division games..

And while baker was hot in Seattle, it still required a lucky bounce off a helmet to go along with 38 points to win

I think the Bucs still win it, but just not sure it will be the blow-out people are wanting – it’s just uncommon to get two blow-outs in the same season.

Also we have this math at work:

Bucs blowout Saints… Saints beat Carolina… Carolina beats Rams… Rams blowout Bucs…

    So who knows.

While this is unlikely, the Bucs can still end up being the #1 seed while the Bears miss the playoffs altogether.

Point being, there’s still a lot to be decided. Bucs just need to take care of their business in they’re in no matter what.

  22. Aqualung Says:

When the Bucs are down 21 to to the bottom dregs with 8 minutes left in the second quarter, it’s time to set a precedent and fire a coach at halftime. Jason, you can do it.

  23. Jeff Says:

    Bucs 19 Saints 17

  24. Mike Says:

Reddick hasn’t been “ full go “ since he’s been here

  25. Not Gus Swayze Says:

No blowout this week or any week. Bowles and/or Vegas have it scripted that way. With that said, Bucs win by 3.5 or less.

  26. Aqualung Says:

Bucs Medical will announce on Saturday afternoon that Wirfs is having season ending surgery on Sunday. They’ve known about this injury for two years but were waiting to let it heals naturally.

  27. Saskbucs Says:

@Rod Munch… I am not predicting a blow out, was just thinking of ways to try and limit Wirfs playing time while also getting an important W.

I expect the Saints to give us a game, I don’t expect the Bucs to lose unless the refs are taking points off the board again with phantom whistles and bad PI calls.

Saints are pretty devoid of talent. The OL may be better than AZ but the weapons and QB are worse.

One reason it could be another blow out is the coaching. Dennis Allen would have given Todd everything he could handle, can’t even think of the Saints coaches names right now (former eagles OC) anyway, they don’t have as good a handle on the Bucs as the last regime.

  28. Hodad Says:

Let em Bake, if the Bucs lose at home in the wild card game round to S.F., or Seattle will you be asking for Todd’s head?

  29. heyjude Says:

Not a bad injury report at all. But Yikes on Wirfs, and also Baker listed as limited.

Dude, you don’t even know where an oblique is. Actual hernias take 4-6 weeks to heal fully and you’re gonna give a diagnosis and prognosis on something that is labled as an INJURY, not a strain, not a pull, not a tear, and you’re gonna say it could be two months because you watch basketball? Dude, STFU. It’s probably a strain and he is resting it. He’ll be fine for Sunday unless it was a tear but if it was a tear, he wouldn’t have finished the game on Sunday.

  31. litaljohn Says:

its proof our receivers were cursed this season. dont let vita catch anything in a goal line formation, his leg will probably just fall off.

  32. Aqualung Says:

litaljohn, ROTFLMAO! What an observation. Damn, that caught me, can’t stop laughing.

We’re in the final playoff run, being safe or worrying about trying to limit playing time is the surest way to lose.

I am mixed on if I pick a blow-out or not. My gut says this is finally the get right game, we’re going to see the offense finally put it all together — but my head reminds me of the history of divisional games and how teams rarely get blown out twice in the same season by the same opponent. I think it will probably end up being a 7 point win, which is just under the betting line – but I also wouldn’t be shocked if the Bucs legit win by 35.

This season is torture. Get a player back and lose another.
