Ben Bredeson Admits Stability Is Helping Offensive Line

October 12th, 2025

Offensive line stabilizing.

Over the years, Bucs types (coaches, suits, players) have pounded it into Joe’s head that stability on an offensive line is beyond critical.

Maybe nowhere else on a football team is consistency more valuable than on an offensive line. Well, that concept was sort of blown out the window with the Bucs in the first couple of weeks of this season.

The Bucs started Week 1 with their center playing left tackle and their left guard playing center. Then the right tackle goes down. Then the right guard goes down.

Yeah, it was a mess, but the Bucs were winning.

Well, in the past two games, the Bucs had the same five guys playing the same five positions on the offensive line: Tristan Wirfs at left tackle, Ben Bredeson at left guard, Graham Barton at center, Luke Haggard at right guard and Charlie Heck at right tackle.

Joe spoke with Bredeson last week and he said he can tell the line is beginning to mold together.

“Personally, playing between Tristan and Graham again, they make it easy,” Bredeson said.

Last week the Bucs opened up their playbook and look how Baker Mayfield threw the ball. Offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard and Mayfield made it clear: The Bucs were able to start throwing deep because the line was giving Mayfield time to throw.

“I think we’re making a great, great steps and we’ve been moving forward every single week,” Bredeson said. “I think that was a great jump from the [Eagles game to the Seahawks game].

“And like, we’re just now trying to build on Seattle, you know, going into San Francisco.”

Joe does not like the history of Bucs coach Todd Bowles’ defense against Kyle Shanahan’s offense. Shanahan has strong success against it.

So the Bucs are going to need that solid offensive line play in order to score points and keep up with San Francisco today. Kickoff is at 4:25 p.m.

So sad that we will never see this team at full strength, the OL in particular.

Hopefully get good news on Luke and Mike .. and Bucky and 5 other guys this week.

  2. Bucky Says:

But no team is ever at full strength like no team in NFL history and even go back to AFL had a fully healthy team. That comes with a physical sport. Hopefully Luke is able to return after the bye. I don’t know if they ever said what Mauch hurt in his knee, they were quick to say out for season. It would be crazy if he played that whole game with a torn ACL or multiple other tears but not an ACL. Think it was said how his knee was hurt already during the Egbuka screen td.

If they win against 9ers they don’t have to rush certain guys back. Mike will probably come back for Lions or Saints since his return involves a record.

  3. Aqualung Says:

Everyone QB has success against a Tdod defense. Career games. 35 points. Last minute scoring drives. First possession scoring drives. Every. Game. And now he can’t stop the run, either.

But it was genius to play musical chairs on the OL and compromise the only player on the team that doesn’t succumb to Tdod’s regression ray (Baker) .

    Baker 40 Burgers or Bust.

Somebody here needs to get a life. Their OBSESSION is making them look desperate and foolish at this point.

The Bucs still have a very talented left side protecting Baker’s backside. The two spots on the right at least seem to be improving with game experience but they are obviously the “weakest link”.

  5. Hodad Says:

Things got better on the O line when Wirfs came back. He looks like he’s making up for lost time which isn’t good for opposing defenses. Thank God he’s back.

  6. HC Grover Says:

Offense will have to keep it close in to the 4th qtr. 30 plus points needed.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

StPete … For some, disliking a coach or player IS their life.

And yes, despite the 49ers being 4-1 like we are, today’s game is perfectly winnable. Just depends on which Bucs’ team shows up. Against quality teams, all 3 phases need to being their A-game.

  8. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

I will be curious who we send out at RG today, and the plan for the rest of the year. Mike Jordan did practice all week, correct? But if they are gelling with Haggard, who knows. Just nice to have options, even if they aren’t quite at Cody M’s level

  9. Truth be Told Says:

The Putrid Pass Defense is still cause for concern no matter how much late game magic “Born Again” Baker pulls off every week. Let’s get off the field on 3rd downs and start getting ahead of teams with our dynamic offense. Go Bucs!!

  10. orlbucfan Says:

Agree with DR, and stpete. AquaBung needs to get a life. And yes, Bucs MUST bring their A game today! Watch out for the refs. Besides, they owe us fans one. Go Tampa Bay, 5-1!!

  11. Baking with Grizz Says:

    I agree TruthBeTold.

Let’s get better at the real turnover 3 and outs – PUNTS.

DEFENSE NEEDS TO GET ADDICTED TO MAKE THEM PUNT!!!!!

    LFG!!!!!!!!!!

We added Sebastian Castro as a safety a couple of weeks ago.
I liked this guy as a developmental undrafted free agent this year. At Iowa he was a bit of a backfield swiss army knife plus a good special teams guy. With our special teams issues he may get a chance to play today. If this kid works out he will add good depth in several areas. Castro impresses me as a Todd kind of player so I’m sure Todd had his eye on him in the draft. With all our DB injuries and special teams problems we were smart to steal him from the Steelers practice squad. I hate all these injuries, but it’s causing everyone including management to make adjustments and step up to help us win every week. This whole organization is jazzed up about doing everything it takes to win every week. The no quite grit is contagious. Go bucs

  13. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Hey guys, have you seen the 49r’s injury list. They could have to start today at QB that has NEVER thrown a pass in a NFL game! How’s that. And they are missing Kittle, their main WR, Nick Bosa, and others.

I realize I am jinxing the Bucs, but it could and should be a blow out Buc win.
