How Badly Injured Is Luke Goedeke?
October 9th, 2025
A Sept. 21 photo of Luke Goedeke.
When ESPN super insider Adam Schefter talks Bucs, Joe pays attention.
Four years ago, Schefter had Bucs assistant general manager Mike Greenberg as a guest on his popular podcast together with Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht. There, Schefter explained he and Greenberg are from the same hometown. It was clear that Schefter has a stronghold when it comes to Bucs intel, and that plays out on social media and TV every year.
So Joe had to hit rewind when Schefter talked about Tampa Bay’s injuries yesterday on his podcast.
Schefter was adamant. “They lost two starting offensive linemen to season-ending injuries.”
Well, Joe only counts one starting offensive lineman down with a season-ending injury. That’s right guard Cody Mauch, who trashed his knee.
Right tackle Luke Goedeke messed up his foot in Week 1 this season, returned after several days of rest and then went on injured reserve for the same injury. The Bucs publicly stated optimism about Goedeke’s 2025 return.
So is Goedeke out for the season? Is he the second starting offensive lineman to whom Schefter referred?
Joe waited more than a full day to type this — to see if Schefter would correct/edit his report. Joe has seen no word from Schefter on his X feed with 11.6 million followers. There’s been no edit to the podcast, either.

The new nfl has some strange stuff
Get healthy big guy
October 9th, 2025 at 9:50 am
wow! distrubing, no doubt, was hoping to see him return soon.
I guess the Sage may need to ask.
BTW, last night you had to love the clip from the Insiders on NFL network of Baker telling Ira, his question was rat poison.
Unrelated and sure you have seen it , but nice to see the Bucs getting all this attention, most unusual you have to admit. Suddenly, the national media loves us!. That is news don’t you agree
October 9th, 2025 at 9:51 am
Sounds like this offensive line won’t be intact until next season. Is there any chance for Cody or Luke to come back in the playoffs would be my question.
October 9th, 2025 at 9:52 am
Dang it man!
Ok…I sure wish they would stop playing secret agent with the teams injuries though. Most of the time I see little purpose to it.
Go Bucs!
October 9th, 2025 at 9:56 am
I heard that same snippet yesterday and assumed it was accurate.
Didn’t surprise me because the Bucs are pretty tight lipped about all injuries.
Do we even know if he had surgery?
I feel for the big guy and hope he gets back to his all-pro form.
Gotta give a shout out to Carberry!
October 9th, 2025 at 9:56 am
Michael Jordan started two games and he is injured. Maybe it was him? If LG were out for the year, one would think he would be on the IR by now.

NEED TO TRADE FOR A OFFENSIVE TACKLE AND SEF TACKLE….
October 9th, 2025 at 10:00 am
At first glance I thought Hardy came to watch a practice!

We really do not. We have the best OL coaches in the league. They’ve smartly cross-trained each player. A jumbled OL may not be ideal, but they were still better than most of the OLs in the league.
What we really need are passrushers and a banning of the Prevent Defense.
October 9th, 2025 at 10:04 am
Its probably Jordan.
October 9th, 2025 at 10:07 am
I don’t suppose it would help to ask Bowles who’s specialty is vague answers.
October 9th, 2025 at 10:07 am
@Joe he has to be talking about Michael Jordan, right? He was a starter at the time of injury?
Unknown. Jordan is not on injured reserve. –Joe

Michael Jordan started two games and he is injured. Maybe it was him?
***********************************************************
thats the first thing that popped into my head….Mauch & Jordan
4-1!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!
October 9th, 2025 at 10:12 am
That’s what I’m saying garro.
Especially o lineman. I can see when he was on the bench that game,
When he stood up he couldn’t put pressure on it.
I assumed it may have been a fractured. Damn!!!
October 9th, 2025 at 10:13 am
The PR guys seem to think Goedeke looks fine, walking around the locker room. I’d be pretty shocked if he were out for the year.
He does look fine. Looking fine and playing football are two very different things. Let’s see if Schefter issues a correction. –Joe
October 9th, 2025 at 10:16 am
I figured it was at least a month but I doubt it’s the full season. I would imagine they would have announced it if it was. Why hide it when they know the extent of the injury? They announced Cody and Kancey asap.
He probably just misspoke and doesn’t realize it.
The lack of information is frustrating tho. I would imagine the next thing we hear is “will be participating in practice on a limited basis’ at some point this season.
October 9th, 2025 at 10:22 am
haggard and heck are starting to get it, over there on the right side…
but no doubt, we could use a legendary return from the big glass eater…
he supplies the nasty to the OL
October 9th, 2025 at 10:24 am
reports have got to be accurate when talking about the “new america’s team”…
oops…i mean “the most exciting team in the nfl”
🙂
October 9th, 2025 at 10:27 am
I thought I heard Goedeke was walking around this week
October 9th, 2025 at 10:28 am
I doubt he is talking about Goedeke. Goedeke has been walking on his own, and my guess is he will be back against the Lions.
October 9th, 2025 at 10:30 am
Maybe he needs padded pants?
October 9th, 2025 at 10:35 am
Apparently there’s an outbreak of bag-itis. It first flared up with Carlton Davis.. then spread to Jamel Dean. Still spreading..
Get that Bag. Get injured.
October 9th, 2025 at 10:52 am
If he was lost for the season I don’t believe he would be hanging out in the locker room an I don’t believe it would be a secret if he was hurt an out for the year you don’t see guys who are out for the season hanging around usually I’m sure it happens but he is good
October 9th, 2025 at 10:53 am
Money says it was a mistake by Schefty
October 9th, 2025 at 10:56 am
Do starters need to play a bit more in pre-season games to work towards getting into ‘football’ shape? Seems like watching on the bench to playing full go at the start of the season is taking its toll.
October 9th, 2025 at 10:58 am
excellent reporting. still thinking about the old days and peers subconsciously i bet. what you see. man this would really be terrible news.
October 9th, 2025 at 10:59 am
jmark – i doubt it in this/these cases but i bet it’s certainly a real thing. you hide something minor til you get the money then finally get it fixed, or something similar to this sitch, react very differently to injuries when you have that luxury finally
October 9th, 2025 at 11:02 am
did he mean simply ‘linemen’ i wonder, or even defensive. gotta find a way for this to be untrue. isn’t it illegal for Bucs to present such an untruth?
October 9th, 2025 at 11:05 am
It amazes me Scheffter gets more info than the local scribes.
October 9th, 2025 at 11:07 am
Goeddeke’s designated return from Injured reserve is Oct. 20. Mauch’s is Feb. 9th.
October 9th, 2025 at 11:24 am
If there wasnt a chance for him to be back, he would be on IR already.
October 9th, 2025 at 11:25 am
Oops forget hes already on IR
October 9th, 2025 at 11:27 am
The right side of the O line is starting to play better!! That’s all that matters for know. Give BM6 time to produce and he will! Next up the 49ers! Get it done! LFG
October 9th, 2025 at 11:33 am
Man I hope this isn’t true.
This season will not end where we hope it ends without Luke. I was banking on Goedeke facing Hutchinson in Detroit in a couple weeks.
October 9th, 2025 at 11:40 am
Unless something changed he should.
October 9th, 2025 at 11:40 am
I’ll believe it when Goedeke gets out on IR, which he is not
October 9th, 2025 at 11:54 am
I know what Joe’s #1 question is for any of the power brokers over at One Buc.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:05 pm
Graham Barton said in an interview with Casey Phillips something that alluded to guys/plural being out for the season. I can’t recall what he said exactly, but it made me think, “oh no, Luke isn’t coming back”. Apologies I can’t provide the quote.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:22 pm
Sounds like Schefter probably has his facts wrong. Ever considered that?
October 9th, 2025 at 12:25 pm
Maybe he misspoke. They are down two linemen, one on offense and one on defense.

Hodad, you may know this already. But that generally means the source of the information comes from an agent or even a higher up team official that he has cultivated through the years. Whereas the local scribes tend to be more reliant upon more rank and file. Coaches, Asst’s. ,other players, etc. Obviously Joe would know a heck of lot more on this than I do.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:28 pm
As the great BootyLover said, I also caught Graham Barton saying multiple guys were out for the year. From the beginning I thought he might be out.
It was Malpractice for him to play in that Texans game when he was clearly hurt. Made it worse. Most of the criticisms of the training staff is dumb, but in that case they need blame.
Auman and Stroud both said the Bucs “hope” he can come back, sounds like Ryan Jensen situation, which was also a huge mistake to have him come back and play.
Mike Jordan is practicing today so it is 100% NOT HIM, it is Luke.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:46 pm
I would really like to find out where this team stands on injuries compared to other teams. I’ve been watching this league for a very long time and fully recognize injuries are more than just commonplace. Seems like the last few years they have been getting hammered with injuries pretty hard. I also understand because I follow these dudes I’m going to be more alert to what happens compared to some team like the Chargers, etc. I would like to see how the Bucs stand measured against other teams. Or even how they stack up against other teams in the same division. I would imagine that the team keeps these types of records but they are obviously not going to make that information public. Would be interesting. Is it just imagination or are their injuries relatively disproportionate.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:47 pm
His status may be uncertain. They might not really know whether he can make it back or not.
If the Bucs knew for sure that Luke was lost for the season, I tend to believe they’d share that information.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:54 pm
Hope Big LG gets better soon. Aidan Hutchinson gives me the willies. Still can’t believe Bucs beat him and the Lions last time they played in Motown.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:54 pm
When he was talking to the medical staff Houston I’m pretty sure he said “I felt it pop”. Definitely preventable. He shouldn’t have been cleared to play and if they just sat him then for a few weeks he would probably be back by now.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:54 pm
One thing’s for sure, I wouldn’t trust anything Todd Bowles says about his injury and future availability. Bowles has downplayed every injury thus far, including the latest one to McCollum.
October 9th, 2025 at 1:04 pm
Alluding to some comments made here, I wish some stat-nerd-geek (Cynthia Frelund, perhaps?? 🙂 ) would come up with a spreadsheet that assesses the overall “health” of a team. Give it some sort of grading system, like a power ranking, where we can all see at a glance which teams are hurting the most.
Somebody make a spreadsheet, STAT!
That would help all us fans, methinks.

Duh. Games missed per team. Dumbass.
October 9th, 2025 at 1:43 pm
Greg Auman confirmed Bucs think/hope he’ll be back at some point this season. not viewed as season-ending.
October 9th, 2025 at 2:00 pm
Didn’t Luke miss 4 or 5 weeks in 2022 with a foot? Same foot? He seems to always pull a full yrs paycheck for 75% availability. Can we get some sloppy dudes who shrug it off and play on (e.g. Suh), instead of these wound tight all world athletic gym rats ( e.g. Luke, Zyon) who pop like overstretched rubber bands. Better yet JL, account for these oft absences when giving theses guys top 10 pay. Im already looking side eye at Morrison (why draft damaged goods, wh was the case with SVD’s shoulder too). Ok, I’m off my soap box. I just get tired of seeing these guys get paid and shortly there after Unavailable (AWJ, Goedeke, Zyon, Godwin, Jensen, Dean, Davis….)
October 9th, 2025 at 3:48 pm
I was NOT a Heck fan early on. But I give him credit now. No he’s not a stud RT but he has really worked and improved with the game experience.
I think it’s a lot easier to replace Goeddeke at RT than Wirfs at LT.
I’m OK with the current lineup but I fear what’s behind them. Haven’t the Bucs pretty well burnt through their depth?
October 9th, 2025 at 3:52 pm
If he were out for the year they would have changed hi IR designation to reflect that. They also would have announced it. This was just a misstatement.
October 9th, 2025 at 6:23 pm
This Dude would be playing if he didn’t have gotten a contract last year.

I think you will see Luke and Mike back for the Lions game. And I’m betting if Dean plays Sunday he won’t make it to halftime without re injuring himself
