Cam Newton Lauds Baker Mayfield

September 27th, 2025

All dripped out on ESPN TV this week, Cam Newton professed his admiration of Baker Mayfield.

“Baker Mayfield is playing out of his brain cells right now,” said the former MVP QB.

Newton said he has more trust in Mayfield in late-game situations than he does in Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, whom the Bucs will face tomorrow.

That drew an explosion from former defensive back Ryan Clark and screamin’ Stephen A. Smith.

Clark said Mayfield is an absolute baller but lectured how he’s taking Hurts all day when he needs a win. And Smith followed that up by barking out the humbling Hurts stat that might keep many Bus fans awake tonight: Hurts has won the last 17 games he’s started and finished, including the Super Bowl.

And in his past 18 total games, Hurts has thrown 43 touchdowns against just 5 interceptions.

Newton, however, isn’t picking the Bucs tomorrow. He says the Bucs overall aren’t in the Eagles’ class.

This whole “past 18 games” statistic floating around the national and local interwebs seems to be a bunch of fancy accounting to me. Anything to try to forget the Bucs won this matchup week 4 last year. We can do it again!

Happy to see he’s toned down his costumery for ESPN

Is it just me, or does he look like a cadaver in a funny hat?

He’s a cake decoration from the neck up. Also the new Boy George act. Although I do respect Cam for some of his takes, I don’t think he’s a dummy and I would rather listen to him and respect his opinion over Stephen A or RC, who has turned into the mouth of the south Jimmy Hart….

Not in the same class. What a turkey.

Matt Ryan is the only former NFCS QB out there who seems to not be bitter about the sustained Bucs success recently. Brees and Newton need to put some respect on the Bucs.

I hope it comes after a SB win this year! But I will take a win this week and a 12-5 record.

Why in the world would you need and want approval from rivals? What a disgusting unmanly take. I want hatred from rivals, not back slaps and “good game” at the end of a contest. If they’re still mad, good, means they actually cared enough to still be annoyed. I want former Bucs acting the same way.

  21. GoneGator Says:

    @Rod
Might want to cool it with the that’s a “disgusting unmanly take” bullshlt. Some of us remember some pretty unmanly shlt coming out of your mouth (typewriter) in the past.

Dont know why you need a put down of someone’s manliness to make your point.
    Keyboard manly men 🤣🤣🤣

Who are we to argue with Huggy Bear?

  23. Bojim Says:

I was going with wax dummy from Madame Tussaud’s.

  25. Aqualung Says:

Cam more than likely enjoys putting from the rough.

The cranially challenged reptile probably needs professional help to curb the unbecoming aggression. Must be some deep seated root cause for the arrogant, but at least ignorant, behavior.

  27. Davyboy Says:

Hey Rod, where did you go to school? Didn’t they teach sportsmanship there or has it died? That’s what makes sports so good, at the end of the day you can respect your opponent for his skill and best effort. Hate??

  28. Aqualung Says:

That photo of the Camster is quite the classic.

  29. garro Says:

LOL He and Jaymiss need to start their very own Vaudeville act. Geez!

  30. Jeff Says:

Super Bowl LOSER, and all around bad sport, Cam Newton! No HOF for Cam Newton.

Joe, you meant to write “All decked out on ESPN TV….” Dripped doesn’t quite cut it. Cam looks like a 1970s pimp. All that moolah, and that’s his best as a fashionista? even my old bones can do better than that mess. Bucs vs. Eagles? Well, I’n going with Go Cardiac Bucs!! 4-0!!
