Ex-Players Don’t Like Mike Evans Reaction To Hamstring

September 22nd, 2025

Mike Evans left the field immediately following his hamstring pull late in yesterday’s game.

There are many Internet doctors among us. They include former NFL players studying games for major networks.

Two graduates from the AFC School of Medicine are NBC gurus Devin McCourty, the former Patriots star defensive back, and ex-Bucs quarterback Chris Simms.

Speaking on Simms’ Unbuttoned last night, they agreed that they didn’t like where Mike Evans grabbed at his hamstring pull/tear/tweak when it happened against the Jets yesterday.

The medical team suggested it will be a long recovery for Evans.

“Mike Evans gets hurts with what looks like a high hamstring, which scares me, because he’s grabbing up by his butt,” Simms explained. “And we all know, when it’s up there, just so you know, Dr. Simms and McCourty will tell you. When it’s that high, that’s like the worst one.”

McCourty went on to say the high hamstring issues “takes a while” to heal. And then Simms referenced the “insertion between the glute and the hamststring” is a challenging area for healing.

Joe’s heard that Evans can recover and will, as in no major injury requiring surgery. But the Bucs legend is/was scheduled for an MRI today, which means the Bucs will hand off the results soon to a reporter who has done a good job currying favor with the franchise.

  1. BA’s Red Pen Says:

They’re probably consulting with Dr. Stroud.

  2. Hodad Says:

Mike as great as he’s been is on the downside of his career. Two big drops, and a popped hammy. Father time is undefeated.

  3. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    I feel for him.

It sucks when your body betrays you. Everything in your head and heart says go for it, then your body says no.

  4. Costa Rica John Says:

Evans has the same problem every year. Joe do a story with a break down on the years he’s been out with a hamstring injury, which leg, and how long it took him to return to the lineup. That would be interesting to know.

  5. PanhandleBuc Says:

Hodad, I am afraid we are seeing that decline which is completely understandable! We all want to see him reach 1k, but I am afraid he may not hit that goal this year. Heal up Mike!

    Everyone is an expert

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘which means the Bucs will hand off the results soon to a reporter soon who has done a good job currying favor with the franchise.’

I’m sure that was an awesome dig Joe against that reporter ‘currying favor with the Bucs’ but I doubt any of us have a clue you’re talking about. You’ve gotta throw out a hint once in awhile so we can play.

No dig at all. Some reporters suck up at all costs and play that game. Others don’t. Some don’t care about breaking news, which has become increasingly irrelevant over the past 10 years. Also, having your bosses pay the league billions for broadcast rights often helps, as does your network being owned by the NFL owners. That’s about as obvious as Emeka Egbuka’s talent. –Joe

  8. PSL Bob Says:

When he first pulled up, I was hoping it was just a cramp. Then my feeble brain realized that the recurring issue with Mike is his hamstring. So just when we’re about to get Chris back, Mike goes out. But on the positive side, both Mike and Jalen McMillan should be back about the same time. Hopefully, we’ll be rolling near full strength the second half of the season. That’s if the injury bug stops biting us in the arse.

  9. Outrigger Says:

Mike will miss anywhere from 2-6 weeks. We need Godwin back asap.

  10. firethecannons Says:

Ughhh so glad we drafted Egbuka, we need to use our tightends if we can spare them once in a while from the O-line. These injuries make it so challenging for Grizz to play call around.

  11. LVMYBUCS Says:

How bout we just let him retire as Buc and move on.

  12. Steven007 Says:

DR, he’s likely referring to Rick Stroud. Though possibly also Jenna Laine.

  13. Mike Johnson Says:

Next Man up. Evans is out perhaps for 3 weeks. Time for Godwin to reappear. Injuries are a part og the game. We have more coming just like everybody else. Figure out a way to beat Philly!

  14. Truth be Told Says:

it really is an annual thing with Evans having leg issues. It is just a question of time. Why does he get a free pass on those 2 balls right in his hands that he dropped yesterday? I love him but there is a little bit of drama and frustration with him at times. Go BUCS!!

  15. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Access journalism is a thing.

    Not a good one.

  16. Gofortheface30 Says:

“Evans can recover and will.” Yeah, in a month, maybe longer. Not sure how I am supposed to take solace in that. It would be lovely if both Godwin and Evans are actually on the field at the same time, which we have only gotten on spurts dating back years at this point. More waiting and ASSuming the team will be healthy after the bye week, as if anyone would like to wager on that considering we can’t go one game anymore with no real injuries. On a positive note, could be much worse. We could be the bengals, or the cowboys. The Bucs are so talented that they could be an order of magnitude better than their 3-0 record indicates and this will end up being by far the greatest decade, ten year run in Bucs history

  17. HC Grover Says:

Sum ting wong with training….warm ups etc.

  18. Danfan Says:

As great as Mike has been for us and the game, it just might be time to consider retiring this season – it can be easy to dismiss it as just his annual hammy issues, but hamstrings usually get worse the more they get injured, like scar tissue buildup or something. The drops he’s always had in his game, it’s moreso the suspicion I have that he will increasingly have more severe issues with the hamstrings as time goes on. It’s a shame, as some players go their whole careers without hamstring issues, while others don’t even get a chance to get going due to recurring ones. Mike has been able to deal with then admirably but they don’t get better

  19. Two thumbs up Says:

Mike’s had enough hamstring issues that he knows the difference between a tweak and a significant injury. The way he reacted suggests it was more than just a tweak. What’s been driving Mike this year, in his preparation and body conditioning, is his desire to break the record. If he looses significant time, the chances of him accomplishing this goal are greatly diminished. If he doesn’t get his 1000 yards I would think he’ll retire. That’s been his driving force since he has a Super Bowl ring. We may have witnessed yesterday the catalyst event that leads to Mike’s retirement after this year.

  20. heyjude Says:

Mike has been in great shape. He had a TD yesterday. Mike will have the MRI and go from there and will be back stronger than ever.

  21. Adam's Angry Says:

Can someone PLEASE introduce Mike Evans to the mother-grabbing LYING LEG CURL MACHINE!?

  22. Saskbucs Says:

Comeback week 6 or 7 when Goedeke is back and plenty of time to go on a tear for Mike. Everyone thought he was toast last season and played strong down the stretch. This hammy doesn’t appear to be worse than the Baltimore hammy where he went down hard.

  23. Ugotrobbed Says:

The way Joe talked about ME in training camp, I thought he would be coming out on fire! Guess that’s what I get for thinking. On the injury front, this year is reminding me of the Bucs first season, think they had like twenty something guys go on IR. That’s a season killer!

  24. David Says:

    So…….When’s Godwin back?
Drafting Ebuka is looking like the best picking in the draft right about now

  25. orlbucfan Says:

I don’t blame Big Mike one ######## bit. He’s frustrated and poked at his body. He sees what a trio composed of him, his bud CG14, and EE2 would do on a football field playing together. It would be an absolute Horror Show for the opposing team. He knows his days are numbered. He just wants that one opportunity. That’s sure not asking too much out of Father Time. Rest and get the Hammy healed, Big Mike. You’ll get your wish.

  26. orlbucfan Says:

po’ed, not poked. I really hate AI!

  27. View from 132 Says:

Simms inserts a lot of things in his glute.

  28. bucs63 Says:

The left hamstring this time. Luckily he only has the two or… Too bad he’s going to miss the time as it and these first 3 games make his 1000 season look unlikely.

  29. Les Says:

I DONT SEE A DECLINE ON THE FIELD .MIKE WILL BE BACK AS ALWAYS .

  30. garro Says:

Two asshats who need to find another way to gain audience. Next… If Simms said he saw Mikes leg fall off I would not be surprised. Lost all respect for this former Buc. Was he invited to the 50th party? I doubt it…

    Go Bucs!

  31. JimBuc2 Says:

    @View from 132:
What a classless, vulgar comment. Perhaps you are not old enough to remember, but Chris Simms left his spleen on the field.
He does not in any way deserve your juvenile post. So tell us, just what accomplishments do you lay claim too? For instance; Chris Simms held down a starting NFL QB job. Our planet has aprox. 9 billion people. Of those 9 billion only 32 individuals are deemed worthy, and Simms was one of them. You punk.
    Go Bucs!
