Haason Reddick’s First Bucs Game

September 10th, 2025

Success in victory.

Joe noticed several haters trolling this here site almost seemingly hoping for Haason Reddick to fall on his face because of what he did with the Jets.

Joe guesses for these people, one isn’t allowed to have an off year and the 50 1/2 sacks Reddick had in the previous four seasons before joining the Jets apparently didn’t matter a hill of beans.

Well, Reddick got a sack on Sunday. That averages out to 17 sacks in a season. If he pulls that off, not only is that a helluva season, Joe guesses the Bucs will have an excellent seed when the playoffs come along.

And if you believe the stats — not dumbass grades, but stats — from the PFF tribe, Bucs coach Todd Bowles restrained himself from having Reddick drop back into coverage 70 percent of the time as he is wont to do with outside linebackers.

In the 60 snaps Reddick was on the field (79 percent of the total defensive snaps), only a half-dozen times did Reddick drop back into pass coverage — 10 percent of the time.

That’s a good sign.

Now Bowles did float Reddick all over the place, probably looking to confuse Dixie Chicks quarterback Michael Penix who was making his fourth career start. Per Ben Solak of BSPN, Bowles had Reddick line up as an inside linebacker on five snaps. That, per Solak, is the most he’s lined up as an inside linebacker since he played for the Cardinals.

Who was Reddick’s position coach with the Cardinals? Larry Foote, who lobbied the Cardinals to make Reddick an edge rusher.

And the very same Larry Foote is Reddick’s position coach with the Bucs.

I appreciate the desire to confuse QBs but let the guy do what he does best from the position he wants.

Watching the game you could see there was an enormous difference when Diaby and Reddick were out of the game and Braswell and Nelson were in. I think the Bucs are going to be fine as long as the two starters stay healthy but if one of them gets hurt the Bucs are going to be in a world of hurt.

He had as many sacks as Micah Parsons did.

WOW, if correct that is extremely promising.

Also, 79% of snaps is the highest percentage of snaps he has ever played…..

  6. Aqualung Says:

He was getting held every time I looked and the OTs were false starting a split second before the snap, never called.

The Fowls’ TD drive should have been over long before the 12 play goal line stand. The refs should be fired and banished to pee wee flag football.

Yaya got robbed of @ least one sack.

Pass rush showed signs of life – let’s keep grinding.

  8. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Reddick almost got home on a stunt too. Not mad at sending him from ILB, allows for another rusher to get on the field w/o losing what Reddick can provide. Also, fastest way to the QB is straight through the a-gap.

This’ll trigger some fans though, but it’s funny to see people that want offensive creativity, but will crap on creative personnel usage on the other side of the ball.

Yeah, the pressure wasn’t bad on Sunday, and frankly Penix looked like a vet the way he hung in there and was making accurate passes even as the pocket was collapsing, he’s, unfortunately, is going to be a very good QB.

From the TV angles its hard to see the coverage on most plays, but if the Bucs were playing more man, and less of that awful super soft zone defense, that alone will make a huge difference as QBs won’t always have an easy throw they can make if they get pressured.

    GAME 1 TO GAME 2
I’m good with it for game one. I’m assuming since he’s the only guy getting the QB on the ground, he’ll get more opportunities to rush next week.

    FOR VEA HATERS (INCLUDING JOE)
Your boy was on the field for the most snaps of any defensive lineman. Vea told me to tell you, “Suck it.”

  11. Teacherman Says:

Braswell is so slow and weak.

I cant believe how slow he is.

He needs to watch Simeon Rices “ring of honor” speech.

Simeon Rice ran like a track athlete.

Simeon would run sprints all night.

If we have an OLB who hasn’t watched Simeon Rices “ring of honor” speech then shame on them and the coaches for NOT requiring them to watch it!

Braswell is soooooo slow and useless.

He needs to get to work or just get cut.

This is exciting. I have been rooting for Reddick. If he remains a sack machine, he could remain a Buc for more than his year contract.

I think HR5 is off to a great start! This defensive front will only get better as they play together more. This will be a fun season! HR5 will do his part!! Next stop Houston!!!

  14. JimBobBuc Says:

I like the idea of moving him around – on the line. Maybe put him over the center sometimes or have him move around on his own along the line to keep the OL guessing. Just keep him rushing the passer and not dropping.

Pointing out snaps isn’t hating, in particular when people are talking about wanting Vita to be in better shape so he’s on the field more. The idea that would you twist that into hate is ridiculous.

But week 1, indoors, this is what we get early in the year generally – but Vita has a tendency to wear as the year goes along. However the last two years it seems like the decline hasn’t been as noticeable, in particular last year when he appeared to be in a lot better shape going into camp. Personally I still wish they’d get him more into the 330lb range, there’s no way you can tell me he would suddenly not be effective vs the run if he was the size of Suh. Plus if he put on 30-40lbs during the year, he’s still not pushing 400lbs by the time the playoffs come around.

  16. David Says:

He was clearly brought here to get after the quarterback and that is how he will be used 90% of the time. Moving him around to gain an advantage or cause confusion or even dropping him back a couple times a game to bring someone else loose, like Kancey or Yaya, no problem. The issue against Atlanta was Penix being elusive in the pocket. The team should have had 4–5 Sacks.
    I expect more against Stroud

  17. Bucswin Says:

Wouldn’t sacking a QB be rated higher that just confusing a QB. Just wondering. I think a sack is better. Was there a time that Penix was confused? Go Bowles!

  18. ballwasher61 Says:

Yeah Aqua I saw the same thing

  19. toopanca Says:

Philly had a defensive lineman drop into coverage against Dallas in week one.

He dropped into an empty zone, read the WR crossing behind him from the other side of the field, stealthily slid further down field and jumped the route for as beautiful an interception as you may ever see a defensive lineman make.

That is a play every outside linebacker should have in their repertoire even if they usually are not going to look quite that good executing the play.

  20. Saskbucs Says:

Bowles needs to stop the “confuse the QB” thing and let guys play their spot with their hair on fire.

Why wouldn’t we want Reddick testing and working Elijah Wilkerson or whatever his name is on nearly every snap. Like Kancey was talking about earlier this offseason, guys need to time to set up their opponent and work moves/counter moves.

Cardinals had Reddick messing at ILB and as soon as he becomes a full time pass rusher, he goes on his 52 sack 4 year run. Not a coincidence folks. Don’t outsmart yourself Todd!

  21. garro Says:

    Hats off to Reddick.

They were lining him up everywhere! He is as athletic as advertised. Much needed. Diaby had one too Joe. Ouch! Dang it!

    Go Bucs!

  22. BuccaDAWG Says:

Good 1st game . Guys a natural born Pirate. Another good move by iut GM!! GOOO BUCS!!!!

  23. BucU Says:

Braswell is going to be a bust isn’t he? He did nothing against ATL.
