Zyon McCollum Has A New Contract

September 5th, 2025

Newly rich man.

UPDATED: Zyon McCollum is no less than $35 million richer this afternoon. That’s because he got a new contract from the Bucs.

Per BSPN uber NFL insider Adam Schefter, the starting Bucs cornerback agreed to a three-year extension to stay with the Bucs. His new contract lasts through the 2028 season, per Schefter.

McCollum agreed to an extension worth some $48 million, $35 million guaranteed. This is the same guaranteed money Carlton Davis got on  a three-year deal from the Patriots in March.

So now that McCollum, 26, is locked up for the next three years, does that mean Jamel Dean is on thin ice with the Bucs? Surely the Bucs didn’t draft two corners on Day 2 of the draft this past April just to play slot corner or special teams, only.

This is a good move. McCollum is a keeper. I see a pick six in his near future.

  2. Boge Says:

He keeps getting better, nice extension.

  3. jb™ Says:

ANOTHER fine move by Jason & Co.

  4. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Congrats, young man, on securing the bag with your new $48 million extension — well deserved! Huge move by the Bucs locking down their starting corner through 2028

  5. ocala Says:

Hopefully Dean has a good year, and the Bucs can receive some draft capital next offseason if they trade him.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

    Dayum locking them down Jason.

  7. GoneGator Says:

    Good for Zyon!
Now let’s sh** started with a pick against Penix 👍🏼

  8. LUVMYBUCS Says:

If Dean bounces back in 2025, restructuring beats cutting him every time.

    The Numbers:
Release saves $11.2M but wastes $4.6M in dead cap.
Restructure his $13M base salary into bonus money and get similar cap relief while keeping the talent.

    Logic:
Don’t get me wrong Dean’s had a rough two years (1 INT, 9 missed games), but he’s still our most experienced boundary corner. With rookie uncertainty at CB, keeping a proven vet who had 7 picks in four seasons makes sense if he shows he’s healthy.

    Smart Bucs Move:
Good performance = restructure and cap flexibility. Poor performance = cut and move on.

Let 2025 decide, but I don’t release proven talent for moderate savings.

  9. MelvinJunior Says:

Real Smart to lock him up NOW. These DB salaries have gotten really INSANE this off-season.

  10. LUVMYBUCS Says:

*Correction: 1 INT in 7 years,

  11. Jack Meoff Says:

Dean gets burnt more then my wife’s bacon

  12. Joseph C Simmons Says:

Man it is SO nice to be a fan of a team with a front office that knows what it’s doing. This is a fantastic move. If they would’ve waited until free agency–like what the Cowboys and Bengals always do–they would’ve had to pay through the roof for him. Now, ZM gets a nice fat contract for WAY more than he was making on his 5th round rookie deal and gets security in case of a horrific injury. It’s win-win!

  13. Smarter than Joe Says:

Hope this works out, but as bad as this secondary is I would not extend or pay big money to any of these players until the pass defense improves

  14. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    Greenberg is cookin this week

  15. JimBobBuc Says:

McCollum is worth keeping but he really struggles in goal line coverage IMO. Maybe with being tall he doesn’t have the quickness in the end zone or he struggles in man???? I’m optimistic he will have some picks this year. LFG! Crush ATL!

  16. ManzielMadness Says:

Let’s go Zyon, love the contract! He could make this look like a steal in a year or two.

  17. Tbbucsfan Says:

Feels like Jason is trying to get these contracts done early to save a few mil in anticipation that they (Zyon/Luke) ball out this year.

  18. EEK Says:

    solid player
    tons of talent
now he’s got a big contract and the expectations rise

  19. Pewter Power Says:

Will there be a big time free agent Licht next offseason? He’s locking up everybody now so seems there’ll be nothing to worry about except free agency next year unless baker is breaking the bank

  20. Bucnjim Says:

    My wife’s bacon lol

  21. Hodad Says:

The ice under Dean got thicker when Morrison couldn’t make it through camp.

  22. Beeej Says:

Anyone remember Rod Jones? Lol his nickname was “toast”

  23. Defense Rules Says:

Jpe … ‘So now that McCollum, 26, is locked up for the next three years, does that mean Jamel Dean is on thin ice with the Bucs?’

Not unless Morrison finds a way to show what he can really do. And Bowles saw last year that you can never have enough quality corners.

  24. BucsFan81 Says:

Best CB on the team. Well worth the money now trade Dean and his contract

  25. Hodad Says:

Glad we locked up Zyon. While we did that Philly signed Za Alexander a FA edge who had more sacks than YaYa, and Reddick last season. Why couldn’t we have done both?

  26. mj Says:

if Dean stays healthy he could have a good year, he’s probably better in man to man than zone, he needs to make more plays. merriweather was really bad last year along with kj britt they were a big reason we were so bad in pass defense

  27. Jeff and Jack's grandpa Says:

Both my grandsons always have bacon strips on the back of there hanes

  28. Travis Says:

For a #1 CB who had 17 passes defended last year I’d say that’s a really team friendly deal. Just needs to get a few more INT’s.

It is so true, he is so stiff.

Free up some money for For Mike & David
We are are ready to roll🤙🏾👊🏾👊🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

  31. ballwasher61 Says:

It looks like these deals are getting done before next years big money hits the scales. Smart

  32. Fred McNeil Says:

$16 mil a year and he doesn’t miss games. Good deal.

  33. Larrd Says:

The Bucs have a solid program going! Promising youngsters getting better every year!

  34. richbucsfan Says:

Can Dean get motivated? Seems like he’s always motivated after a bad play to feign injury. This has to be a prove it year for him. Just sick of him acting hurt when he screws up.

  35. jimmy Says:

wow lowball. i guess it was take it or leave it and risk a bad season or injury.

  36. Miller5252 Says:

Time to sign Evans! He’s got me worried the most. When he signed his last contract the Bucs said with that contract he will retire a Buc. Since they haven’t signed him again and he could pass Jerry this year, it almost seems like a rid off in the sunset moment. They need to sign him even if it’s 1 more year before the season starts.

  37. No Mercy Says:

Locking up goedeke and McCollum makes me feel good. Glad our owners aren’t cheap pieces of sh*t like some owners

  38. Kenton Smith Says:

Otten and White are players that need to be resigned. Some debate there but there shouldn’t be. Mike and Lavonte will play here as long as they want to. As long as we keep this bunch together the better chance Baker plays at a discount. Who wants to argue that Baker wants to keep Cade and Rachaad? I know better.

  39. SlyPirate Says:

HOW GOOD WOULD IT FEEL …

To be drafted by the Bucs. 1st round, 5th round, UDFAs get their bag with the Bucs.

Licht takes care of his own better than any GM. Simply work hard, perform, be a good teammate, and don’t act selfish.

Winston and D White have to be seeing these contracts and thinking, “I really messed up a good thing.”

  40. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Otten and White are players that need to be resigned.”

Agreed, both have been very valuable in their time here to us and instead of looking at it like having a limited, SB “window” you build a team that can contend short and long term, you don’t need a SB window when you can kick the door in IF you can stay healthy and play well on a consistent basis in a given season. We locked up both tackles on offense, got McCollum long term, and I think we continue to go into drafts not bogged down by “need” and can supplement the roster wherever we want.

  41. #1bucsfan Says:

Love this. He keeps getting better.

  42. Gipper Says:

Not sure about McCollum. Hard to believe that a member of a pathetic pass defense is being rewarded with mega millions. Zyon not as objectionable as Jamel Dean but this deal seems unreal.

  43. Scotty Mack Says:

What happens with Dean remains to be seen. We know nothing about how good Morrison will be and Parish has yet to be tested in a real game, let alone as a non-slot corner in a real game.

So far, Morrison looks like he is more injury prone than Dean.

  44. unbelievable Says:

Seems a bit premature with only 1 solid season of play, but- assuming he has another good season, this prob saves money in the end. In Jason we trust…

  45. Cometowin2 Says:

Nice deal. Feel like Zyan keeps getting better and is clearly our #1 corner.

  46. heyjude Says:

Great news! This is Zyon’s year! Good deal.

Now, it’s Mike’s turn, Lavonte’s turn. Go Bucs!

  47. FrontFour Says:

Always celebrate someone’s success. Another hardworking young man rewarded, same as Goedecke. I’d like to see him be the shutdown CB we need. Have not had one since Davis.

  48. Stpetematt Says:

Zyon the most athletic corner (according to RAS) ever. His potential is virtually unlimited. And he is getting better and better over time. Smart move.

As far as Dean I agree we should see how this year plays out. Having cb depth is hugely important in today’s NFL.
