Statistical Breakdown Of Bucs Offense Vs. Dixie Chicks Defense
September 6th, 2025
Todd Bowles.
Cool advanced stats matchups between the Bucs and the Dixie Chicks as both teams kick off the 2025 season tomorrow.
When the Bucs have the ball, the biggest disparities appear to be passing efficiency and success rate. A successful play in NFL advanced stats is when an offense gains 40 percent of yards needed to convert on first down, 60 percent on second down and 100 percent on third or fourth down.
Last year, the Bucs were one of the best teams in success rate and the Dixie Chicks were one of the worst.
The Bucs offense handles the blitz well. The Dixie Chicks defense can’t blitz well.
Yes, yes, yes. Joe knows the Dixie Chicks loaded up on edge rushers in the draft. Still, unless a guy has the last name “Bosa,” seldom to rookie edge rushers make a dent. It’s such a difficult position for a rookie to learn.
Joe isn’t worried about the Bucs’ offense. It’s the defense that has to raise its game.

Glad the analysis was in the titled orientation. An analysis of the Bucs “defense” against the Falcons offense would necessarily be titled “Nervous Breakdown.”

Well, new job gave me some vacation time so Im using it sunday to watch this game only and then get a lot of other stuff done. I want to see pass rushers pass rush please….and hopefully we come out with a win and everyone playing is healthy for game two. If we build a big lead towards the end, lets put in Teddy (if he’s recovered from his illness enough)
Im seeing 24-7

Bucs need to score 30 plus per game.

I’m guessing 38 to 12. 12 being how many beers I drink. 38 being how many wings I eat. Well maybe 35.

‘Joe isn’t worried about the Bucs’ offense. It’s the defense that has to raise its game.’
Yea verily Joe. I admittedly don’t get much out of a statistical breakdown like that above because in Atlanta’s case, they had 2 different teams last season: Cousins for 14 games & Penix for 3 games. Cousins melted down in his last 3 games (went 1-2 in Games 12-14 by throwing 7 INTs). Penix then started the last 3 games & also went 1-2, but they lost those last 2 games in OT. What looks to be interesting is that they used a very aggressive (and balanced) attack scheme with the rookie at the helm … and he responded well. I’m impressed.
Their very last game of last season is an excellent example of that IMO. Falcons lost 44-38 to the Panthers, but the game plan was impressive. Atlanta ran the ball 38 times for 227 yards (6.0 YPC with 3 TDs), and passed it 38 times for 312 yards (21 receptions for 14.9 YPR with 2 TDs & 1 INT). THAT is a very balanced attack, but more because of what they did inside it than anything else.
Falcons ran the ball OUTSIDE on 22 times of their 38 runs for 128 yards (5.8 YPC average). Penix threw the ball DEEP on 11 of his 38 passes, completing 7 for 11 deep for 191 yards (27.3 YPR). That’s a very much different type of attack than what Kirk Cousins used to beat us twice last season. Our OLBs need to do an outstanding job of contain, and our Secondary needs to really be on their toes to prevent explosive deep completions, while also being prepared to help with the contain problem. Could be a good day for running quite a bit of 4-3.

Waste of time chart. It’s all a guess. Game will come down to what it always does. Who executes better, who makes the fewest mistakes. Any injury that might occur to a key player during the game.

Falcons front seven sucks! One fairly good linebacker and a couple rookies. Neither of the rookies came in and nailed down a starting job, according to their depth chart. Other guys are pedestrian, some of them old. Should be crap through a goose!

I hear all that blah blah and I’m confident in our Bucs, but do not underestimate Raheem Morris and his defensive plan. It’s not the same Rah we knew. He’s determined and he will find success in Atlanta, but hopefully not yet. If I could choose between Todd Bowles and Raheem, I’d take Raheem every day.

The Falcons opening drive will be a TD. It’s part of Todd’s genius, to see what the other team wants to do and letting them do it to lull them into a false sense of confidence.
Rah will come out with a carbon copy of the Puntless Commanders in last season’s home playoff loss to a rookie QB. Couldn’t force a punt then, doubt Todd can do it tomorrow.
