Can SirVocea Dennis Prove He Can Stay On The Field?

August 29th, 2025

Hope.

The Bucs are just one play away from having their plans on defense blow up in their faces.

Joe has maintained all offseason that the Bucs really rolled the dice by only adding veteran inside linebacker Anthony Walker.

It seems Walker’s claim to fame is being good friends with Bucs great Lavonte David. Walker was the man who would provide solid depth at a position the Bucs struggled at big time last year outside of David.

The middle of the field was a big problem. That’s where an inside linebacker and safety affect the game.

Provided Antoine Winfield is 100 percent healthy, he will take care of the issue at safety. Walker? He had a non-football injury and he and the Bucs parted ways this week.

So now the Bucs are banking on start SirVocea Dennis to stay on the field. Dennis is talented, but he’s missed 17 games the past two seasons, or half the Bucs’ regular season games.

The Bucs quickly say Dennis’ shoulder is fine after surgery. Well, that sounds great. Trick is, Dennis’ shoulder was not an issue in 2023. Dennis had hamstring issues.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles was asked about Dennis staying on the field through training camp and preseason.

“It’s good to see him healthy, you know, with the shoulder the last two years,” Bowles said. “To have him getting shoulder surgery and coming back healthy and not missing the snap is positive.”

Joe’s fingers are crossed. But man, Joe would sleep easier if the Bucs would have traded for someone more stable than a guy the Dolphins replaced with K.J. Britt. Joe has never been comfortable banking on a guy to stay healthy who has never had a healthy season.

Hopefully this hope doesn’t blow up in the Bucs’ faces.

Dennis staying healthy may be the difference between the defense improving or the defense being soft.

We are a different D with him on the field. We need him all 17 games!

  2. Buddha Says:

The same is true for every team. Injuries derailed the 49ers and cowboys. Only the Eagles escaped major injuries to starters. NFL is much more dangerous now. Players are faster and stronger and season is longer. Luck plays a part.

Hope never won a Super Bowl.

    YES!

Injuries killed the Lions. I’m rooting for SVD this season.

  6. Mike Says:

You act like the guy has had all types of different issues he legit had a bad shoulder that honestly p probably should of been taken care of his rookie year

Well, I was jumping up and down two months ago probably claiming NEGLIGENCE on Jason Licht’s part “IF” he didn’t aquire “Realistic” depth , BY CUTS….

Here we are at cuts…. What is LICHT thinking???? I just CAN NOT wrap my head around the thought process here… Except to Proclaim that Licht himself IS NOT “expecting” to go to the Super Bowl this year… No Way.

There is a Marked Difference on how Licht is approaching the season compared to the year 2020 when he STACKED the depth “properly”…. With more than enough talent and depth to TAKE THAT TROPHY HOME!

Ever since Bowles was gifted the head coaching job it’s been LUCK that has ruled the day.. I’m pretty sure it’s Bowles thats benefited from it, so it must be his. Unfortunately, he doesn’t actually have the talent to hold his job. But boy does he have luck on his side! It doesn’t translate on the field directly but SOMEHOW Even with it as Clear as can be that he SHOULD NOT BE CALLING THE PLAYS, It’s Just as Clear that a Full Time defensive coach MUST BE brought in for us to have an Actual Opportunity to go deep. And Jason Licht Does Not seem to be beating the bushes to find us quality depth.

Cuts have come and now gone. There is still a very slim amount of time left to find anything within the cuts. After that….. we’d have to do some trading and I’m not feeling that from here but then I’m Not in the loop at the point of contention.

One thing is for sure, if Jason does nothing, don’t “Expect” an actual attempt from management to win a super bowl… We can still hope to win the division (a lack luster prize but better than nothing) but it would require MORE THAN LUCK to Win a Super Bowl….

I still don’t understand the Ant Walker deal or what went on there. He’s working out for other clubs. Did he look terrible so they hid him to help him find an another job? Did he not fit in with the locker room? That would be odd if him and David are good buddies.

  9. Fred McNeil Says:

Joe, from what I’ve heard the shoulder has been an issue since college. Probably heard it here, but it might have been a college football fan commenter. I really don’t remember

  10. Fred McNeil Says:

Matter of fact I think I first heard it from a draft site. Maybe. Getting senile I guess

  11. LakelandBuc Says:

Even if healthy, I’m not sure Voss is the answer

He was out played y Bullock and Jackson
I hope he play 20 games, which is a stretch
And l hope he’s productive in those games

    This ain’t Madden dude….

The Bucs are STILL paying for having “stacked the depth ‘properly'” as you put it – 5 years ago….

$50+M over the cap every year since Brady left. Its pretty hard to compete “properly” when 20%+ of your entire year’s budget has to go for paying off past debt….

The only reason the Bucs have been competitive and gone to the playoffs the last 3 years is because Licht has been drafting so well.

Stacking your roster in an attempt to go ‘all in’ for a given year has MAJOR financial ramifications. And if you don’t win the Super Bowl that one year – you are totally screwing yourself and your team’s chances of even being competitive for at least the next 2-3 years….

Jason Licht knows that the Buccaneers Super Bowl window is open for at least the next 3-4 years because of all the young talent he has drafted in the last 4 consecutive drafts. But that’s only true IF he doesn’t do something stupid like racking up a bunch of debt in an attempt to buy a Super Bowl roster at the expense of having the same opportunity each year for the foreseeable future.

I thought this was all ‘Obvious’ – but I guess not since I’m having to explain it to you and all the others I see talking s(p)it about our GM recently for not going after Micah Parsons or whomever the over-priced, over-hyped free agent Du Jour happens to be…..

  13. Hodad Says:

Even if he stays healthy we really don’t know how good he is? He doesn’t have a body of work to go on. It’s not like he was a top 100 player who just got injured, he’s barely played! Hope he’s the answer long term, but hope isn’t a plan, or a guarantee. Bucs rolled the dice not bringing in some real competition, same for OLB depth. They are sitting on some cash. Go get Alexander, who had more sacks than either Reddick, or YaYa last season. He’s better than both Braswell, and Nelson. Don’t know what the Bucs are thinking here.

this website has gotten so negative! you would think we’re 2-14… let’s see how this team handles adversity

  15. Boomer Says:

Maybe it’s a fools errand to run a 3-4 defense?

The Buc’s will be fine! Until they’re not! We’ll see how things go. Play hard and fast! Next man up!

But EVERY Superbowl victory begins as a hope.

  18. Hodad Says:

Expressing concerns for your team is not being negative. It’s being realistic. We can’t be all glass half full types. Plenty of positives, but we’re here to discuss all good, and bad. This team is far from bullet proof. There’s always ways to improve.

  19. Hearty Dikerson Says:

“The only reason the Bucs have been competitive and gone to the playoffs the last 3 years is because Licht has been drafting so well.”

While I agree, at some point Licht needs to stop playing it so conservatively and stop putting so much trust in the guys he drafted. We need some FAs.

He’s drafted a lot of good players with potential to get better, but he hasn’t drafted a single Pro-Bowler in 5 years.

  20. Aqualung Says:

No worries. Todd will scheme him injured by week 2.

  21. Esteban85 Says:

I have come to realize that anything the Bucs front office says about anything has the potential to be 100% cope BS. Oh Godwin will be back for training camp, oh Wirfs is fine and won’t need surgery. Everything coming out of the front office should be met with complete speculation and suspicion. Wouldn’t surprise me if Joe is writing articles with the headlines “Joe told ya so” about the linebacker position about the edge position. GB went out and got Micah parsons, what have the Bucs done about their obvious issues other than sign Reddick who is officially over the NFL hill

  22. Mveal2006 Says:

Maybe the rookie backup is better than people think.
    We can find ilbs imo.

  23. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

I think Dennis can, and I hope he can shut some of the seeing is believing fans up because they’ve been awfully loud and noticeably peeved about Dennis’ body failing him.

I’m not too concerned about our ILB depth. It’s a win if I don’t have to see our reserves taking meaningful reps outside of playing special teams this season. Same for the CB depth, I’ve got no problem with Josh Hayes as long as we don’t need him to start like he did on 3 different occasions last year.

  24. GoneGator Says:

I like the kid from Nebraska.

Agree with WBL that it’ll be a win and key if we don’t HAVE TO play backups much.

    @Pickgrin
Nice try bro but you and I both know these guys can’t see beyond their own angry little worlds…. Sad but also very annoying to have to wade thru the ignorance and constant crying bi**chlng 😭b

  25. unbelievable Says:

Our depth at ILB, OLB and S is straight up scary.

One injury to any of those starters and we are effed.

  26. MadMax Says:

SAMMY BROWN, CLEMSON LB. KEEP YOUR EYES ON HIM. 2027 draft….just saying….
