Jacob Parrish Is Steaming With Confidence

August 20th, 2025

Joe caught up to summer Bucs standout rookie cornerback Jacob Parrish.

Actually, Parrish was a spring standout, too.

That’s why Lavonte David can’t stop talking about him.

In the postgame locker room after another strong showing on Saturday night in Pittsburgh, Joe hit Parrish with a few questions. Parrish is a supremely quiet dude, one certainly not interested in the spotlight or self-promotion.

Parrish’s motto might be “look at someone else.”

Joe asked Parrish if he’s built confidence throught two preseason games.

“I feel really good out there to be honest,” Parrish said. “I’m already a confident person. So at the end of the day, it’s just football, and that’s what I’m thinking on the field, game or practice.”

While fans have seen Parrish flash his elite speed, he says he’s still making progress “trying to learn everything.” Parrish said he can play faster when he’s had more study time and practice.

Joe loves Parrish’s tackling, and the rookie says it’s primarily in his head. He’s not hesitating and he’s got good fundamentals.

“I feel like I was a pretty good tackler in college, and I feel like tackling is a mindset more than anything else,” Parrish said. “And I feel I have a good mindset. If I see someone in front of me, I’m just going to tackle him. That’s it every time.”

Joe’s watched a lot of rookies roll through Bucs training camp after the past couple of decades. Parrish and Emeka Egbuka are among the all-time great rookie August standouts.

If it lasts, and it doesn’t always, Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht will have nailed another draft and the Bucs should be a measurably better team this season.

this kid is special…surprised he lasted to the 3rd round…he wouldve been a 1st round pick in the late 90s early 00s lol

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  2. firethecannons Says:

Teams so focused on size and how fast a corner is that this kid got overlooked.

  3. Hunter Says:

Future Ring of Honor player, Jacob Parrish

  4. D-Rok Says:

After we drafted Morrison and Parrish, of course I checked out their highlight vids and film breakdowns. I came away slightly more impressed with Parrish. This kid could be special in time if all things go in his favor.

I’m rooting for him – he looks like a “dawg” to me.

Great picks (so far) Mr. Licht!

  5. firethecannons Says:

At the combine, it said he was 5’9 3/4″ so that is likely the reason he is our 3rd round pick . Glad he is on the team, we need good players on defense, especially the secondary, we have been behind the rest of the league.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It must be exciting for him to know this early that he can play well at this level…

  7. Fred McNeil Says:

Parrish is plenty fast. Teams got hung up on his stature. With Dean and Morrison being china dolls he may have to play a bit of outside corner too.

  8. Esteban85 Says:

Mental toughness is such a big part of football and this kid has it. Love this pick! Size doesn’t always mean strength, see Bucky and Dunn for example. Great job Licht and staff.

  9. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Like a mini, more physical, but equally cerebral SMB especially considering his ability to play inside and out.

  10. BakerFan Says:

but but but Colin Cowerd says the Bucs suck, so how can they be better this year.

  11. BucYou Says:

    Sapp and Brooks.

    Wirfs and Winfield.

Egbuka and Parrish? Is it possible?

We know all about EE and the Godwin comp. Parrish…80% Ronde/20% Asante Samuel?

  12. Leopold Stotch Says:

Helps so much that he wrestled too. Underappreciated sport now a days, but dang does it help with everything. And I mean EVERYTHING

  13. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    @BucYou

I’ll see you’re Godwin comp, but raise you a few shades of Golden Tate. Especially after that TD catch in Pittsburgh. Tate was a dawg

  14. Aqualung Says:

Wow. Maybe he can explain to the rest of the guys how Todd uses imaginary numbers in his quantum physics multiverse defense. It’s an important nuance to determine whether the call goes to one of the three variants of A.X.06.sgh’ or one of the four variants of B.Z.7113.qp’’. It would be even better if he just told the guys, “here’s who everyone is supposed to cover. And you two double the Z.”

Also cool that he knows you’re supposed to tackle a guy with the football. Good that he knew that before he arrived at One Todd Place.

  15. BucYou Says:

    @Warren

Love it! 80/20 Godwin/Tate? I’m excited to see this season if he can flash the burners like Big Mike has done his whole career too.

  16. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    BucYou

That’s the one thing we haven’t seen him put to use is the long speed and heck yea any combo of Godwin & Tate should mean a PB appearance before his rookie deal is up.

    @Leopold

It’s a very underrated sport, even with the popularity of MMA it doesn’t get talked about. Some of the best conditioned athletes I’ve known in my life have been wrestlers, especially the weight cutters. They’re extra ornery because they’re literally hungry

  17. Jeffrey Becker Says:

adding a sure tackler over the middle that takes perfect angles like Parrish would be a humongous boost. izien racked up some tackles but was never blown away like i am with Parrish. he’s on the spot so quickly helps when you are tackling unsuspecting runner haha. same with SVD. his sacks up the middle on his college tape were mindmelting. here’s to good health. we lost a few guys during the ‘Bowles gamble’ but could benefit from the reps and didn’t lose a starting linebacker. good times.

  18. Teacherman Says:

    Ronde was also 5-9.

    We finally have Ronde 2.0!

    The Ironman!
