“It Feels Like Home”

August 6th, 2025

New Bucs backup QB Teddy Bridgewater.

Former Pro Bowl quarterback and Vikings first-round draft pick Teddy Bridgewater sounds darn happy to be a new Buccaneer.

“Man, it feels like I’m home,” Bridgewater said today, his first day practicing with Tampa Bay.

Bridgewater wasn’t just blowing smoke. Not only is he close with Lavonte David, the two are from the same area in South Florida, Bridgewater has his old college head coach on staff: Bucs defensive line coach Charlie Strong.

In fact, the pair had a reunion night Tuesday at the Bucs’ team hotel.

“Coach Strong, he was doing room check last night in the hotel and he knocked on the door. I’m like, ‘man, what the hell?,'” Bridgewater said. “I said, man, this feels like the University of Louisville all over again. I thought I was an 18-year-old freshman again. We laughed and we were like, man, we just rewound the clock.”

Bridgewater, 32, also talked about seeing former University of Miami head coach Randy Shannon hanging around One Buc Palace, and Bucs offensive assistant, who he knows from his Vikings days.

Bridgewater added that Bucs QB coach Thad Lewis “is a South Florida legend.”

Joe’s glad the Bucs have a happy new backup QB, a guy with 33 career wins and plenty of knowledge to share with Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield.

No doubt Trask is getting jumped over again. Hope he saves his money, plus he will have a healthy body once his career is over. Not bad for getting to play a game like kids do.

  2. Geno711 Says:

Love to see the historical tie in these coaches have yo players. It really means something to see someone you know and respect.

  3. Bucs4Ever Says:

    pretty sure he’ll be qb2

  4. LakelandBuc Says:

It’s a great move by the Buccaneers
As a fan, you gotta love the move
You need solid depth at Each and Every position

  5. buc4evr Says:

ok, signing Teddy is fine but the Bucs may still need another vet edge rusher in case of injuries and a better left OT. Guess we will learn a little more during preseason games but I’m not sold on Heck.

  6. JA Says:

Baker Fan—My hero threw two picks today, and he hasn’t had a great camp so far. Better throw a deleterious barb at Trask, who has looked better than my hero in recent practices, to feel better about myself.
Trask Fan—Trask is better than any of them, and will excel if he ever gets a chance. The acquisition of Bridgewater means nothing.
Bucs Fan—QB depth is good. Why don’t you guys put a lid on it and let the chips fall where they may? Go Bucs!

Couldn’t agree more! It’s been a theme on this team amongst players for the last few years! We’ve drafted a lot of players close enough where they were either teammates or played/knew of one another. I think as fans we lose sight of how small the football world is compared to the rest of us

  8. Scott Says:

This is also a chance to get Teddy into coaching in the NFL possibly

  9. Truth be Told Says:

One of the very few positions you could question on this team was having a solid back up quarterback with game experience. Check that box off now. It’s all up to the pass rush. Go Bucs.!!

  10. teacherman Says:

    Trask can’t do it.

I’m so happy we sign Teddy!

    He’s so smart!

He will be great in this offense!

  11. Mike Johnson Says:

TYrask mightbe in trouble. Bridgewater is a Baller. We will see once he gets into shape.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Bet Bridgewater ends up on IR.

  13. ModHairKen Says:

He’s not bypassing Trask. He was out of football for a reason. He lacks arm strength. His knee is suspect.

In ten years or so, he’s played for Minnesota, the Jets, the Saints, Carolina, Denver, Miami and Detroit.

If he still had anything, would they have all cut him loose? Especially NO with the dog crap they’ve had the last few years.

And don’t give me “Baker was with 3 teams before the Bucs.” Baker has a strong arm, delivers a hit, and his knees are good. Not Teddy.

  14. J-Dub Says:

Trask will end 2025 and complete his rookie contract at about $5.5 Million. Baring that he doesn’t through a completion this year, he will end his rookie contract with 4 career completions. Well over 1 million per! Nice!!!!

    “Feels like home.” Loving it!

Geno711 Says: “Love to see the historical tie in these coaches have yo players. It really means something to see someone you know and respect.” Fully agree!

  16. Biggun Says:

    Teddy B welcome…..

  17. Biggun Says:

Makes sense, Teddy B is going to be more close to Bakers style of play, that keeps the playbook simple and continuity on the field just in case Baker get hurt or needs a blow. Like the saying in special ops…. “ONE IS NONE! You’re only as good as your backup weapon.”

  18. Stanglassman Says:

Teddy two gloves is so strange to see. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Bucs Qb throwing the ball with gloves on. Especially in the summer during training camp. I realize Big Ben, Kenny Picket and a few others do it but it still looks weird to me.

  19. matthew a veal Says:

passing on bringing teddy to the gators was an example of why wil muschamp is now an analyst and not a coach.
at least charlie and todd have enough sense to bring him in.
winning a state championship in your first year as a head coach….this guy has something extra, and i love trask
