Todd Bowles Said It Would Be “Unfair” To Give Teddy Bridgewater A Lot Of Snaps Against Tennessee

August 6th, 2025

Teddy Bridgewater throws a pass in individual drills Tuesday.

Teddy Bridgewater is not Tennessee-ready.

The newly signed Bucs backup quarterback two days ago was the head coach at Miami Northwestern. Now, he’s backing up Baker Mayfield (and Kyle Trask?).

Bridgewater was on the sidelines yesterday before he actually put pen to paper on his contract. Today, Bridgewater suited up at practice — No. 16 — and was largely an observer outside of a few throws in individual drills early this morning.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles cautioned those expecting Bridgewater to play much, if at all, Saturday night when the Bucs host the Titans in this summer’s first worthless preseason game.

“He will be ready to play if we have to clean up the ball game,” Bowles said. “We don’t plan on it at this stage and time.

“It would be unfair to put him out there and play like that. We will get him caught up to speed as much as possible. Then we will make a decision based on how the game is going.”

So it’s no sure thing Bridgewater even takes a snap. While Bridgewater may have passed a physical, is he in shape enough to even play a quarter?

The last time Bridgewater was on a football field wearing a helmet before today was when he completed his lone pass in Detroit’s loss to Washington in the playoffs in January.

That was clearly after he led Miami Northwestern to a Florida high school championship last fall. Bridgewater was not on any team’s roster this spring or summer until he signed yesterday.

Week 3 we let him loose though

I wasn’t expecting to see him either. Just not enough time.

  3. BucEmUp Says:

I personally think it’s unfair we haven’t really seen much of trash, both for us as fans and him as a backup. Nobody really knows what he can do. I hope they let him sling it this preseason

  6. Rash Says:

Pleez just cut Trask He’s been stealing money for going on 5 years. He stinks. Just a Gaytor honk.Played like 9 plus games in college. No other teams want him. Not even for a bag of chips and a pickle.

  7. Letsbuccingo Says:

Dink and Dunk Teddy hasn’t thrown a pass since 2022 so him and Trash have a lot in common. Why in heavens name did the bucs resign Trask if he can’t play. Let’s hope and pray Baker have or get a serious injury or we will probably go winless.

  8. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Bridgewater today on the practice field thought Emeka Egbuka was a tight end “because he’s so yoked up” but then he’s running around and showing his speed as well.

I’m not a Gator fan or really even watch much college football. I just don’t understand why people especially Buccaneer fans talk so negative and nasty about Kyle Trask we should support him. I feel like all you a—Holes need to shut up. I almost want Kyle to leave and go become a super star on another team so I can hear all the same idiots cry and wine.
