“Todd Bowles, Does He Got You Standing Up, Playing Linebacker?”
June 17th, 2025
“Hey Glazers, I will bet you a box full of T-shirts from loser college teams that Todd Bowles has Desmond Watson dropping back in coverage. Jiminy Christmas!“
What a classic line by Chucky.
The first coach to lead the Bucs to a Super Bowl win, Chucky has been getting all kinds of run since he joined forces with Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports fame.
Joe’s willing to bet almost as many people know Chucky from his Barstool Sports videos of unboxing goodies sent to him by teams of all sports, mostly college football, as they do of him winning a Super Bowl for the Bucs.
That Super Bowl win was over 20 years ago. Some folks with children in elementary school have only faint, foggy memories of that great evening in history.
Take Big Gator, Bucs rookie UDFA defensive tackle Desmond Watson. His birthdate is unknown but he was born in 2003, per the Bucs. So if he was born before that Super Bowl (played on Jan. 26, 2003), he clearly doesn’t remember it.
Why does Joe bring Watson and Chucky up? Chucky and Watson crossed paths a couple of weeks ago.
It appeared to be backstage at an autograph signing or convention. In the background of the Barstool Sports TikTok video, Joe noticed a stack of T-shirts or jerseys. A crowd buzz can be heard.
Along with Chucky and Watson, there is a mob with their phone cameras out.
Of course, Chucky knows about Watson and starts asking him about the Bucs. Chucky asked Watson if he’s going to take the field at some point with Vita Vea.
“We put you and Vita Vea out there together, that ain’t fair.
“Yeah, that’s the plan!”
And then Chucky hit Watson, who the Bucs have listed at 6-5, 449, with the one-liner of one-liners.
“Todd Bowles, does he got you standing up, playing linebacker?”
LOL!!! Boom!!
Watson denied he’s practicing dropping back into pass coverage but Chucky shot back, “I saw him put Vita Vea standing up.”
To be fair to Vea, once Bowles had him drop back it nearly saved the Bucs. In the 26-24 loss to the Cowboys last year, the Bucs were trying to rally and win the game late. Bowles dropped Vea in coverage on third down and Joe howled in disgust. But Bowles was right. Cooper Rush (!) threw short to the left for Jake Ferguson, and Vea stopped him two yards short of the sticks, forcing a punt with just under two minutes left.
Unfortunately, on the first play of the ensuing drive, Rachaad White fumbled a reception and that was all she wrote.
So either Chucky reads the comments on JoeBucsFan.com or even Chucky is fed up with Bowles dropping pass rushers into coverage so much.
What a one-liner by Chucky!

He can still coach! He sees how ridiculous that is. Sometimes you get so fancy of defense it confuses your players

Gotta love Chucky.
Go Bucs!

Maybe Via made the play. Still…that’s just screwy. It was more of a dumb play by Dallas than brilliant defense.

BTW, did Watson look like he was moving any quicker out there? It also seems odd that no one knows his birthday. Are his parents the Frankensteins? Kidding aside, if this guy can get down to like 360 or 370 and gets moving quicker he might really be something. He’s bound to feel better at least.

Hopefully our pass rushers rush the passer and Bowes doesn’t have to drop them back in coverage.

For whatever it may be worth, Kancey dropped into coverage once last season and got targeted….0% catch rate lol
Watson in theory, would be an awesome pivot point for stunts. Especially in those alignments where Kancey lines up outside. Watson takes out the guard and center and right off his rear you’d get Calijah screamin’ into the backfield. Not an every down thing, but that’s something you work on for the future in case you need it.

Pretty sure I remember Vita making a big play from LB last year. Not surprised, he’s just seeing what the possibilities are.

Thank you Chucky. Maybe now that the Edwards is coaching the whole pass defense, a pass rusher will occasionally get to sneak into the backfield and sack a quarterback.

I can’t do stories of losing to Cooper Rush before breakfast. This is why for every 12-5 prediction, 5-12 is still possible. Bowles has had decent, and at times good, teams. But great teams don’t lose that kind of game. Cooper Rush?!

Joe understands and feels your pain. Sorry about that. 🙁

Speaking of the d line. The Bucs should reach out to the Bengals to get a sign and trade for Stewart, since the Bengals don’t want to sign him.

Joe, we don’t know where he was born because they don’t call asteroid collisions “births!”

Trading for Stewart (if those red flags a drive time get checked out) for conditional picks might be worth a gamble. The problem is he is going to draw a first round pick salary.

OMG! WE’RE NOT THE ONLY ONES THAT HATE BOWLES DROPPING GUYS INTO COVERAGE THAT SHOULD RUSH THE QB?
I never knew. Super funny stuff.

I think we have the space Todd and then we will have a replacement for Nelson after this season if Stewart is as good as he projects to be.

“So either Chucky reads the comments on JoeBucsFan.com or even Chucky is fed up with Bowles dropping pass rushers into coverage so much.”
Or, hear me out, Chucky is an attention whore trying to stay relevant 🤔
If Chucky knew so much then why weren’t the falcons in the NFC championship game last year? 🤡
The guys only claim to fame, aside from his loud a$$ mouth, is winning a SB with a team Dungy built.
How many times (snaps) did Todd drop linemen into coverage and what were the results? My guess is not that many and not that bad. I’ve yet to see anyone point out a single play where dropping a lineman caused catastrophic results for us but maybe some one can enlighten me.

Dungy built one side of the team. Anyone who claims Chucky won with Dungy’s team clearly doesn’t know how to read a roster, or has a hateful agenda. Which is it?
Dungy — who had an all-time great quarterback fall in his lap — has as many rings as a coach as the guy you claim rode Dungy’s magic carpet.
