No Contract? No Problem For Mike Evans.

June 12th, 2025

So Mike Evans is entering a contract year like he was two years ago.

Back then, he wasn’t too happy about.

Fans might remember how Evans agent was barking before the 2023 season.

Evans balled out in 2023 and then got a new deal before the 2024 season. It was a two year contract, so Evans’ deal ends after this season.

Now, however, Evans doesn’t seem to care about his financial status.

JoeBucsFan.com: Mike, is not having a contract for 2026, are you cool with that? Is that something you wanted, to just go year-by-year?

Mike Evans: Honestly, I haven’t even thought about it. I just thought about having a great year this year and then we’ll see what happens.

Evans sure seemed genuine in his response. Man, Joe hopes retirement isn’t in the back of Evans’ head.

I hope Mike still has elite years left in his legs. I’m not sure I can stomach to watch him decline

  2. Pickgrin Says:

Evans will play at least 3 more years as long as he stays relatively healthy and avoids any major injuries.

I think being around Brady those 3 years and Mike adopting a number of TB12 eating and training habits will extend #13’s career a bit and allow him to keep doing what he does at a high level even as he ages….

  3. PSL Bob Says:

Pickgrin, I hope you’re right. If he could just add one more 1000 yd season to his resume, breaking Rice’s record, that would be fantastic. Then he could probably play another couple of years with him taking fewer snaps as Egbuka (double E) works into the lineup.

  4. View from 132 Says:

He’ll retire. No one says they aren’t thinking about a new deal and intends to play.

  5. heyjude Says:

    No retirement for Mike yet.

Pickgrin, agreed. Thinking too that Brady showed them how to stay healthy and keep playing for more years. Hoping for at least 3 more years with Evans.

  6. Hawk Says:

Watching Brady play (at an extremely high level) into his *40s* just might have given Evans a new goal.

  7. Srbija Says:

Qb dont take that many hits as WR does

  8. LouisFriend Says:

Personally I’d rather see Evans go out in his prime than wait until his body starts failing him. If he’s thinking about retirement after 2025, depending on how things go I’d celebrate for him. How many players leave on their own terms?

All I have to do is think of guys like Ryan Jensen and many others who left because they were broken by the game. Do that enough and you want Evans to leave with his 12th straight thousand yard season and all the flowers that come from it.

Also, there are plenty of guys who stuck around for so long that their subsequent lack of production after their prime slowed down their HOF selections. Yeah, that’s a real thing, and I’d be mortified to see Evans have to wait longer for his gold jacket over something so asinine.

Depends on what his goals might be, personal and team wise. Does he still want or love the game enough to continue? Is it starting to be more of a grind than enjoying the results? What does his family think? Hope he’s around 3 more years, including this year.

  10. SlyPirate Says:

“Honestly, I haven’t thought about it.”

Good job, Joe. Way to create a problem that didn’t exist. Now he’s thinking about it.

  11. Saskbucs Says:

I also hope you are right Pickgrin.

I would have thought the same last year but something seems a little weird, the difference in attitude towards a new contract is part of that something.

I’m worried he breaks Jerry record and sails into the sunset. Might be even more tempting if he can get another ring this season.

  12. Bucs4Ever Says:

he has money…a ring…respect around the league…he’s seen his buddy Godwin go through 2 horrific injuries

I would not begrudge him one bit if he retires. HOF’er

  13. 1sparkybuc Says:

I’d like to see him rack up 15 consecutive one thousand yard seasons. I believe he is capable of doing that and more. He deserves to be in a class of his own.

  14. Brandon Says:

Pickgrin…. Brady’s eating habits weren’t revolutionary or particularly known as effective for the masses. As for his training…two totally different positions. Stop reaching.

  15. Colonel Angus Says:

Get another 1k and a ring and retire a Champ! Hope
    He plays another decade though.

  16. Vanessa Anne Says:

I’d love to see Mike play 3 or 4 more seasons.

    I don’t think it’ll happen.

SB ring or not, I think he gets his 12th straight 1K yard season and hangs up his cleats.

I’m inclined to believe him when he says he’s not even thinking about a contract.

My instinct is that Mike’s agent ran his mouth a little too much a couple of years ago, and made claims that Mike wasn’t ready to, and didn’t want to, back up.

Mike is a team-first guy. I think he was totally focused on just playing good football a couple of years ago, and it’ll be the same thing this year.

  17. David Says:

From many things he has said over the past year, I get the impression he wants to play this year and next. A third year after that might be a stretch. After this year and next with no injuries… That puts him at about 15,000 yards and over 120 touchdowns. He will walk into the Hall of Fame easily.

This team has the potential to be really really good so it might also be… If they win the Super Bowl or come up short, does he want to give it another shot or run it back. I imagine that’s gonna play a big factor.

  18. Booboo meeks Says:

I’d like to see him complete the 12th 1000 years season and ride off into the sunset with another ring this year!!! Go BUCS!!

  19. Kenny Says:

He aint retiring. As long as he gets his 1000, hes going to keep playing. Hes very obviously going after Rice.

Its the only way he gets the Hall.

Hes never been a top 5 WR… Very rarely been a top 10 WR. Never been considered elite. Never an all pro.

His claim to fame, and to the Hall, is racking up 1k.

He has to chase Rice. He knows it too.
