Cade Otton Doesn’t Like Being Singled Out
June 6th, 2025Cool thing about Cade Otton. The Bucs’ starting tight end the past three years is reluctant to embrace any personal credit for the Bucs’ offensive success.
When asked to speak of his consistency — the only time Otton’s mostly level play changed was a spike for a four-game stretch when Mike Evans and Chris Godwin were hurt — Otton would only respond with “we.”
He wasn’t talking about the Bucs offense or the team in general. Otton was talking about Bucs tight ends. He didn’t want to be singled out from the group of fellow tight ends.
“I take a lot of pride in that,” Otton said about his consistent play — before he began to speak collectively for the tight end room.
“As tight ends, we’re asked to do a lot of different things – I like to think of ourselves as like ‘the fixers’ in the offense because of our body types and we’re able to participate in different facets of the game.
“We need to be able to fix problems so [others] need to be able to trust us and know what they’re going to get out of us and that’s a huge part of the position.”
Now that’s a team guy, which Otton is. He isn’t getting the job done, all Bucs tight ends are getting the job done.
Joe thought it was cool when Otton was asked about his play and consistency he found a way to include all his tight end teammates and dodge personal accolades.

Love this description “fixers “

That’s being a real man – accept responsibility and deflect praise.

The Tight End position on the Bucs Offense is probably the only place there is any thought of that position not being occupied by a Stud. We are loaded everywhere else. If the Putrid Pass Defense is better-and it should be- watch out because We are Coming! Go Bucs!!

Wouldn’t take many players like that to win a Super Bowl. And I ain’t whistling Dixie! He’s tough as a boot!

I think the tight ends are underrated on this team. Otten can do it all, makes tough cates, YAC and blocks well. Durham catches everything thrown his way, Culp could be dynamite waiting to be lit.

Another high character guy. Bucs are loaded with them. This is also Todd’s strong suit.

With the weapons they have he’s kind of a forgotten man, but there will definitely be times where he can make some big plays simply because the defense can’t cover everyone

Like a hockey interview. Those guys never reference themselves.

Can we please sign Gronk?
Make him the highest paid TE in NFL history for 1 year.
We need Gronk!!!

I really like your player spotlights, Joe. The articles about touts underestimating the Buccaneers are tiresome.

Like Otton from the beginning. Depending on how Culp and Durham improve, TE may once again be a low priority in the next offseason.

TE room is set…. WR room is stacked….. RB room is awesome…. O-line stable and solid.
Grizz and Baker will be a perfect pairing. Nobody talking shlt on our team – just heads down and get better! Love all these guys attitude and the chemistry on our team!

Teacherman
Gronk is far smarter than Brady. He’s not going to come back and embarrass himself. Gronk was great! I’m sure he’s still in better shape than the guy on the street, but NFL shape…No way. His aging body just wouldn’t tolerate it any more.
So unlike is partner Tommy Boy Gronk didn’t hang around a year or two too long.
In addition Gronk is well aware of his concussion history. He’s mentioned in interviews the times he saw stars or went black but was able to hide it and keep on playing. Gronk is well aware of CTE and his net worth is reported at 45 MILLION $$$. He’s smart enough to live on that and his TV work for sure.
WHY would he even want to come back? Personally I wouldn’t wish to see him because I’m happy he got out in better shape than Jim McMahon or Scot Brantley and hundreds of others.

You’re right St Pete Fan
But a man can dream can’t he?
Gronk talked about coming back last year.
What about a playoff mercenary?
Give Gronk the whole season off, give him a whole season to train.
And bring him on board for the playoffs?
Gronk might do it!

you gotta love what Gronk did for the Bucs, And I believe he should be on the Bucs sideline in some capacity. But we are at a point where our young players
need a chance to play and improve. The WR room is an area that concerns me some, given the fact the top four receivers may already be set. We may need to cut a veteran receiver and some others who have speed but have not shown
enough to hold down a roster spot.

I think all of our dudes at TE have done very well, even Kieft has got some real plusses to his game. I wonder if they give him some balls this year maybe something designed stuff.
Go bucs!
