GM Jason Licht Talks Telling Post-Draft Feelings

May 11th, 2025

Warmth lingers.

Through 11 NFL Drafts and their ensuing seasons, Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht has noticed a trend.

When his staff feels great about a draft moment after it ends and the feeling doesn’t subside in a matter of hours or a handful of days, then that means great things are coming from that specific draft class.

That’s how Licht and his team feel this year, he told 102.5 FM last week.

“Whenever we feel really good [about a draft], and it lingers for — still, right now the same feeling [as two weeks ago] — overall it’s a successful draft,” Licht said. “So there have been some where you’re (grunts) it didn’t fall the way you wanted it to, or whatever, but this one we’re excited about all our picks.”

Licht went on to rave about first-rounder Emeka Egbuka, the star receiver out of Ohio State University.

“It’s going to be a seamless transition for [Egbuka] in terms of just into the locker room; he’s going to garner respect right away but he also wants to earn it,” Licht said.

The GM acknowledged that he would never reveal when he didn’t feel great about a draft, but he is happy to share the excitement when it’s a 2025 kind of haul.

Trading up to pick Aguayo in the 2nd round. It’s alright, we already know.

Dungydance, we don’t speak of that name here…

  4. Hodad Says:

He threw up 15 minutes after drafting JTS.

If this draft equals last years there’s no reason not to be in the superbowl in the next few years.

This was the first draft in my entire lifetime of being a Bucsfan that I actually really liked every pick. I’m no spring chicken either and a member of gen X. Hopefully it turns out as good or better than the 1995 draft.

We kicked butt again, you’ll see. Now we just need to sign a proven vet at safety….we’re getting there

These rookies need to get on the field to make a difference. Can the position coaches get these guys ready to play? Bowles needs to simplify his D so the rookies can get on the field. As they get used to the speed of the NFL, then Bowles can turn it up.

Thank you, JimBob. Last I checked, none of the players have a micro-Cray supercomputer to decode all of the options, variants, and scenarios in each and every play call Todd barks out.

How about “see that guy? Cover him.”

But no one would ever call him a defensive mastermind genius then, so, we have this instead.

Many of us are happy with this year’s picks. Jason did well. You never know what may happen. Jameis was a number one pick, and he and Aguayo did very well in college. There were other teams that wanted them.

You never know how a player will transition to the NFL. The Bucs aren’t the only ones that made errors in the past. Look at the Browns and Watson. They broke the bank for him and he has barely played. Their error in judgement gave us Baker. So glad we got him as our QB after Brady.
