Benjamin Morrison Called Logan Ryan

May 8th, 2025

Hungry new Bucs cornerback Benjamin Morrison, their second-round draft pick.

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht hunts all year long for quality, football-hungry men to add to his football team.

The Bucs believe second-round draft pick Benjamin Morrison is one of those guys in the “I Am That Man” mold.

(Licht really needs to copyright that phrase and secure it for his first book title.)

Morrison, apparently, isn’t like a common rookie that will show up in his new city and wait for advice and guidance from the team staff member assigned to orientating young players.

Per former Bucs defensive back Logan Ryan, the two-time Super Bowl champ with the Belicheats, Morrison reached out to Ryan demanding referrals and advice.

“Benjamin Morrison actually called me after the draft knowing I live in Tampa, wanting to pick my brain, ‘Who’s your trainer? Who’s your nutritionist? What do I got to do? What do I need to know?'” Ryan told CBS Sports HQ.

Ryan noted that Licht knows how to fill a locker room with “good character guys, guys that love to play ball” and that means a lot to key veterans.

Joe loves hearing this, and Joe also thinks this is more common nowadays thanks to players getting paid big money in college. Fewer rookies are coming in focused on how to spend their NFL signing bonus and figuring out how to be professional.

Good to hear that Morrison is that type of guy. As far as the hip injury, I read somewhere that it was more of a birth defect. Brett Favre and others had the same issue so..maybe Morrrison is about 100% now?

  2. First Last Says:

Go watch his workout videos @lt. dan, and you’ll see how he is fine. This isn’t a Todd Bowles flyer, they actually did their research. I’m sure they wanted Jihaad Campbell but this team is in win now mode and couldn’t wait for someone to get better by the end of the season just to find out he was a bust.

  3. BuckyBuc Says:

um no one wanted jihaad campbell

  4. SteveK Says:

A perfect storm created by Brady. Everyone had to learn, work, and focus of the ultimate prize- out next Super Bowl. The roster of veterans sponged in and created an great culture from winning and having the GOAT for three years, and are now paying it forward by drafting no-nonsense football players who appreciate the opportunity to learn. It’s a beautiful cycle and I am thankful. We should be a contender in the NFC this year. What’s scary is that Baker got better the last two years, what if he takes it to another level this year. I hope we can win another ring for Evans and Lavonte. It would be epic.

  5. SteveK Says:

Campbell is a LB with a busted shoulder and less than elite instincts. Athleticism is great, but can he survive a season with that shoulder, and can he cover?

  6. ModHairKen Says:

The guy went to Notre Dame. Why is anyone surprised that he has his act together?

  7. KABucs Says:

I love this kid, I hope we can get him out there locking receivers down ASAP. Nothing against Dean but this is a different level CB. He just needs to get through that rookie to NFL level adjustment. Definitely has the right attitude. An early to mid-season regularly scheduled Dean injury we’ll see he gets to play.

The video they did that showed his bulletin board bucket list was pretty telling of his mind set… we have some serious overachievers in our first two picks. He also had one of the best draft day videos of any of our draftees… his and Tez’s are definitely my favorites

    Go Bucs!!

  8. Guzzie5 Says:

Lt Dan you are correct, its a birth defect, it was both hips, 1st hip done in highschool, he came back and was college all american as a freshman, top 15 prospect if he was injury free, he might be our top cb day 1

  9. Bantry Says:

We know that Baker took 1st round pick, Emeka Egbuka and his family out to brunch when Egbuka first got to Tampa. Since our next four picks were all defense, my question is, who on the defense is reaching out to these guys and meeting their plane, taking them out, etc.? Calling Logan Ryan is great, but here’s hoping we see videos and/or stories of buys like Winfield, Yaya, McCollum etc. taking a more active leadership role.

  10. Fan of the South Says:

Notre Dame defenses going back a few years have LB’s and guys on the D KLine making the majority of the tackles with the exception of the Safety Watts who is tough as Hell and looking to hit someone. Anyone.

If the Bucs continue to have to rely on extended Run Support coming from the Corners Joe’s will be referring to Morrison like they do Dean a few years down the road.

DB’s are built to drag down receivers after the catch and not stopping guys like Henry and Barkley coming at them @ 20MPH.

  11. Gofortheface30 Says:

Lt. Dan – that is correct. I have actually said this more than a handful of times and while I don’t expect a sprinkle of comments among hundreds from anonymous fans should be taken as gospel, some people are just stubborn and assume Ben Morrison is injury prone. This is the same thing Brett Favre and some guy named ED REED had. Morrison had elective surgery and this surgery was always going to happen regardless to fix the other said. It was a bi lateral issue. He is going to be fine

The more I read about Benjamin, the more I am glad he is getting his chance with the Bucs. He fits perfectly. Can’t wait to see what he does.

  13. Aqualung Says:

Hopefully leading the league in locker room culture translates to a Top 10 pass defense.

  14. Lt. Dan Says:

    Outstanding info Gofortheface. Mahalo.

  15. ReeeBarrr Says:

Sounds like a promising young man.

I really like the Bucs approach of drafting high character and hope they stick to it

  16. Bucsarg Says:

Gofortheface is dead on.. Good job. Facts and data win.

  17. Todd Bowls Says:

Logan Ryan was always known as a very knowledgeable football player, a good guy and a team first player, wherever he played. Bucs should see if there are any football related jobs that he could do and keep him in the organization in a staff or coaching role.

  18. ToddBowles#1 Says:

I like the kid. He’s got a great background.

Just not sure he’ll like playing 15 yards off the ball and acting like a circus size slice of Swiss Cheese.

    Todd knows pass defense.
