Game Ball To Sabby!

October 10th, 2010

OK, who around here has been difficult, sometimes viscious on Sabby?

Joe stands up and raises his hand.

There was — and is — little question who the worst defender on the Bucs is. Sabby.

But just as Joe is sometimes over the top with criticism of the Bucs reserve strong safety, Joe has to give the guy mad props when it’s due.

Today, it is more than just due.

Sabby played positively goatish for much of the game, starting off in fine fashion when he didn’t make it on the field in time to replace injured Sean Jones and the Bucs had to burn a timeout before the first play from scrimmage of the ballgame!

Then, Sabby’s tackling was more difficult to watch than Rosie O’Donnell in an adult film. Cedric Benson literally dragged Sabby downfield as if Sabby was a puppy nipping at his shoes.

Then Sabby gets schooled on a Carson Palmer touchdown pass.

Joe was so outraged, nearly blinded with rage, he was ready to even curse out Joe’s beloved fantasy, Rachel Watson.

Just when it appeared the Bucs were about to lose — boom! — here comes Sabby. He played ballhawk, got a tipped pass from Aqib Talib and returned the pick 31 yards to set up the Bucs winning score.

It was impressive. Impressive. Clearly the play of the game and clearly Sabby’s best play as an NFL player.

Yes, Joe’s very, very critical of Sabby, and Joe thinks it’s all warranted.

But when Sabby makes a play, Joe has to give credit where credit is due.

Sabby, you get Joe’s game ball today. Joe stands and raises his bottle of beer in your honor.

Well done. Salute!

I’d go Cody Grimm on D — he played out of his mind today

    Freeman/M Williams on offense

  2. goodfellajay Says:

    good game sabby

  3. sensiblebuc Says:

Give it to him! Sabby has been MUCH maligned by the media and the fanbase and he came up big when it mattered. Did you see his teammates rally around him after the pick? LOVE that camaraderie.

  4. sensiblebuc Says:

ps-Game ball to Connor Barth too. Dude is automatic.

  5. gitarlvr Says:

Yeah Joe, how could you give Sabby the game ball. How about Grimm, who made his pick by jumping a route(not a lucky tip) and turned it into 7. He got lambasted last week for giving up the TD. Lets give the encouragement to the guys who have an actual upside.

  6. Posey99 Says:

    Grimm

  7. SkookumSmitty Says:

I could see a ‘Tip O the Hat’ to Sabby, but Cody Grimm was just excellent all day long. Throughout the 3rd quarter, he got tackle after tackle, despite the D-Line having no answers for the running game

So glad they hung around long enough to win…That’s the way the Bucs did things in the run up to the Superbowl. It’s even BETTER now, I would argue, because we clearly have an offense that can make things happen.

Next year could be a very good year.

    Bottom line:

No win without Grimm’s six points.

    Or Barth’s kicking.

    Grimm
    Barth
    Sabby

Nice of you Joe, great game winning play by Sabby. Tomorrow we’ll discuss his work on every play but that one!!!

  9. pdx_bucs Says:

While it’s great to Sabby have a good day, I’d also have to say game ball to Grimm for having such an outstanding recovery game after getting his butt handed to him by the Steelers.

  10. will the beast Says:

He played a solid game so did The Grim Reaper. I watched the game and heard the wistle blow when spurlock hit the ground to fumble the ball on the kickoff that indicates end of play the play is over no replay no fumble

  11. Bucnjim Says:

7th round pick starting his second NFL game. Supposed to be a small; slow; white boy who looks like he’s 12 years old.

    Game Ball GRIMM!

  12. BamBamBuc Says:

    will,

Not true anymore. Even if the whistle blows, they can review a fumble and give it to the other team if possession is obvious and the play was continuous. Didn’t used to be that way, but the rules have changed.

  13. jax Says:

given some time, this guy will become a great safety. for some reason, everything that goes wrong on the defense is blamed on him. mark my words, this guy will be a top S in the league soon, if he gets the chance. I honestly think there are a bunch of jealous, insecure fools that just dont like the way he looks.

  14. passthebuc Says:

Grimm is not as slow as he looks. also, he has great instincts. on one play, Palmer threw a flare to the right flat and two bucs were waiting for the ball carrier to get to them so they could engage. Grimm blew past them and stopped the runner 3 yards deeper. if you watch the interception, and the flow of the play, you will see his football instincts.

Feel sorry for Sabby, as i think his play is nothing more than reaction vs. action. Much the same for Ruud. Neither will be with the Bucs next year. With the current group, and good drafting in the next 2 years, the Buc’s will be better than ever.

  15. Trguy12 Says:

Good for Sabby making a great play at the end. In all honesty he was not very good besides that play but..right place at the right time and he ran it back well.
Let’s hope Sean Jones plays next week though. It’s obvious that Grimm is already a much better player than Sabby.

  16. JDouble Says:

Sabby’s Int was obviously huge. But let’s be honest. He played lik garbage as usual, and that INT happened because Talib made an amazing play and tipped the ball directly into Sabby’s hands. I still think he sucks.

The sad part is I’m not sure if he sucks anymore than Sean Jones.

  17. Capt.Tim Says:

Think it was Biggers that tipped it to Sabby, but not sure. Sabby absolutely can’t play for this team , and the Bucs win. He misplayed the touchdown to their Tightend horribly. That was Sabbys guy, and , as ussual, he didnt bother to read his keys, and got caught half in run support, half in his assigned coverage. He didn’t get back for deep help on the long T.O. Touchdown.he gets dragged pathetically. It’s sad. You didn’t see anyone dragging the Reaper, did ya? Sabby absolutely has never improved on bit from the day he got here. Too bad. But he can’t play if we want to win
