Family “Obligations” Tied To Tom Brady Decision

February 2nd, 2023

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport is in Alabama at the Senior Bowl where Bucs officials are sniffing out potential draft picks, and it’s a safe bet Rapoport had a conversation with said officials on Monday — before Tom Brady retired.

Rapoport strongly implied that during his visit to The Rich Eisen Show yesterday.

He said that on Monday afternoon, “I learned about these family obligations he has, his desire to be in Miami to be with his kids on a regular basis.” After hearing of Brady’s priorities, Rapoport said Monday afternoon was the first time he considered, “You know what, maybe he won’t play.”

Interestingly, Rapoport added the people he talked to “thought that [Brady] would play.”

Joe wonders about Brady’s “obligations,” Rapoport referenced. Perhaps they’re legal in nature and tied to a divorce agreement?

Regardless,  Brady is gone. Joe knows that. But what really interests Joe here is what the Bucs thought Brady would do and how that might have affected their many offensive coordinator interviews conducted over the past 10 days.

And will the finality of Brady’s second retirement possibly set the Bucs on a new course?

Maybe the glazers will swoop in and save the day by showing Bowles the exit….please???

  2. NEfan Says:

Giselle is in NY playing super model jet setter and naked jujitsu while their children are back in Miami with obviously a high paid nanny. He’s a family guy, I guess she said eff you it’s your turn. If he has certain visitation rights then LV & SF were never an option in his mind. Bucs screwed him by not letting him go and play where he wanted to in 2022. Same old story for Brady, take less to help the team and it will bite you in the arse later. Good guy finishes last again! BA killed the Bucs!

  3. SKBucsFan Says:

No matter the reason I will always blame Todd Bowles and his inept DC skills for costing TB12 his 8th Ring and the Bucs ability to repeat as Suoerbowl Champs.

  4. Allen Lofton Says:

We have TB’s decision – it’s a whole new course for TB and the Bucs. We know what Brady is capable of but the Bucs, that’s another story. Lets hope it has a happy ending.

  5. sasquatch Says:

And will the finality of Brady’s second retirement possibly set the Bucs on a new course?

Why? Were they going to base their offensive coordinator selection on the possibility of one more year with Brady? No.

  6. Wut The Buc Says:

Dont let this distract you from the fact Bowles cost him another ring last season.

  7. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I too blame Todd Bowles for his stupid all out blitz call against the Rams, that left Cooper Kupp wide open on the last play in the game.
Stafford had been beating the blitz all day, yet we blitzed, and IMHO it cost us a return trip to the Super Bowl, and after we had clawed our way back into the game.

  8. Open mind Says:

The entire game came down to one blown blitz?

  9. Hal Says:

I can’t get over the sports media already speculating that in the latter part of next season a contender with QB issues like SF had at the tail end of this past season will reach out to TB and he will immediately suit up and hit the field. Ain’t gonna happen, Tom has retired and I am a grateful Buc fan that he passed through Tampa Bay on the way to Canton.

  10. Redeemer Says:

Chris, the entire gameplan was atrocious. Stafford kills it against the blitz, yet bowles did it over and over and over again.

Brady’s marriage troubles started years ago. Here’s how I think it went. Oh you’re leaving me? I thought if I retired you’d stay. WTF, I’m going back to play football. I think he truly wants to just raise his kids now. I doubt his decision had anything to do with legality surrounding custody. Like NE said, G is back to selling evening wear and bikinis. The man must be exhausted. Can you imagine her annoying accent screaming at you to retire for the last 5 years? He should’ve married a bartender

  11. Cobraboy Says:

    New course? Of course.

I appreciated every Brady moment except the drama.

But it’s time to move on.

One wonders if Brady retired earlier if Bowles had also gotten the apple and road map. One can dream.

Time to gut any vet over 30, suck up the cap consequences, collect draft choices, and start anew.

    Without Bowles.

  12. Bucsfan13 Says:

In Florida, they have strict divorce agreements when it comes to co-parenting.

  13. Beej Says:

Kids need a father in their life. Jails are full of ones who didn’t

  14. Keimosabe Says:

Everyone talking about getting rid of bowles just needs to chill. Offense is gonna be in shambles this year which means the defense is gonna have to be that much better. For all of bowels’ faults, one thing he definitely knows is defense

  15. Craig Says:

Part of his “family” obligation might be to try and get himself, Giselle, and the kids college funds out from under the looming class action suits naming him, and her, about FTX.

He already lost somewhere around $50 million, that might get tripled in court.

  16. SKBucsFan Says:

Eat the cap now and start re-tooling. Some veterans need to go for draft pocks. Trask and Gabbert are the QB’s, there is no need for a veteran. The sooner Licht gets us out of this mess the sooner we can rebuild. Best case scenario Licht hits on a few picks and we find Trask is serviceable. If not then keep in mind we still have Bowles leading the charge to failure thus securing high picks for next year. If anyone can pull off a 5-12 season, it’s Bowles

  17. lambchop Says:

    @Craig,

You do realize he has a $375M Fox contract waiting for him, right?

    College funds?

They’ll recover their losses, hand over fist, just doing some endorsements.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

Keimosabe….Bowles won’t be here after next season.

  19. NEfan Says:

Keimosabe@ not sure where Bowles gets the persona he is a great DC. He failed in NY, D played great against NO in 2020 with Brees having a torn rotator cuff that prohibited him from throwing over 15 yds. His D played great against Mahomes in the SB with Mahomes having turf toe, a decimated oline and Reids kid deciding to leave the facilities shat faced and slamming into a van injuring a 5 yr old. He’s serving a 3 yr term. Other than that he managed to cost the team a 3rd SB and caused Brady his first losing season, plus gave up over 60 points in his last two playoff games. If I were a teacher he wouldn’t have a gold star on his forehead.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

And will the finality of Brady’s second retirement possibly set the Bucs on a new course?

    DUHHHHHH……of course it will……Brady’s gone….we have to do something new…….BL is gone…

The Brady exit actually should make the OC hiring easier than it would be with uncertainty.

If it’s a strong candidate….give him significant input on the QB….if not….let them know they could bolster their resume with a successful Trask or Gabbert…….

I do believe we will need a vet to compete with Trask or to back him up and Gabbert knows the receivers and would be fairly cheap.

  21. Derek Says:

    Thanks Giselle.

  22. Goatfarmer Says:

    Darkest days ahead.

1983 through 1995, all over again.

    Toad’s Bowels.

Although Jason shouldn’t let that happen, but it’s the coaching not the players in this case.

  23. Sucatkane Says:

Nefan your an idiot the superbowl was very very good game plan and if you think that pat mofo had turf toe and it slowed him down then your as gullible as all the media wants you to be don’t be stupid I agree bowels didn’t do great this year but I agree with him that we need to be tougher Philly is the run tough bowels wants and if we were even half of that this year superbowl bound

  24. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

Ne fan boi still here huh d riding the day away

  25. Leopold Stotch Says:

Man Giselle couldn’t wait another year? Had to mentally destroy him? Plus Bowles and Leftwich being God awful. Very annoying. I feel bad that his last season was with a lifeless team and the last game was the absolute epitome of said team and getting blown out. It’s just a shame.

  26. Coburn Says:

Everything with his recent retirement to me has been screaming the tabloids and tbe idiots that follow them were wrong as I always suspected. The divorce was never about him refusing to retire.. he just did on his own only a year later. The desire to be near his kids backs that up. No I don’t think he’s legally obligated.. having gone through it myself you can’t force your ex to live ina. Certain area, it would just affect his support payments. I never bought the idea where people were trying to connect the dots between the timing of his unretirement and divorce. By the time couples announce it out publicly it’s been at least months in the making and would not have been wrapped up so fast if it started at his unretirement. More likely he didn’t have a reason to stay retired. Becomes real obvious when you’re with someone every day.. i started divorce not long before covid and yeah…

  27. Davenport Says:

Gut the roster of anyone over 30 – trade for whatever you can get. Re-sign SMB and Dean. Play Trask.

Take the losses that will come with that plan. Straighten out the cap. Fire Bowles after 2023

    Result?
    – good cap situation
    – young talent
    – high draft picks and multiple picks

What coach wouldn’t want to step into that situation for 2024?

  28. Captain Oblivious Says:

Remember the reports that Tom and Gisele had a ferocious fight and speculation was that their marriage was over? I suspect that fight erupted when Tom confronted her about the affair, or she told him about it. I’m sure for Tom there was no salvaging his marriage after finding out about the affair.

Anyway, I don’t buy it that he retired because he wanted to spend more time with his children. Maybe he decided he would only play for the Dolphins to be close to his children. When that door closed then he retired. However, not being near his children would explain why he wouldn’t play for the 49ers.

Despite what many on here said I think Brady still played at an elite level this past season. I think he will regret his decision in 6 months since he will still be physically able to play.

  29. unbelievable Says:

“Bucs screwed him by not letting him go and play where he wanted to in 2022.”

Delusional Brady fanboys say the darndest things. Zero evidence that he wanted to go anywhere else in 2022. And why would the Bucs do that without getting compensation anyways?

  30. Browsing from DC Says:

Word is that Robert Kraft wants to sign Brady to a 1-day contract so he can retire a Patriot. I wonder if he would considering how they gave up on him. I know he’s tight with Kraft and others there and he had 20 years in the organization but I wouldn’t blame him if he passed. Same goes for HOF. When Brady gets a chip on his shoulder, good luck knocking it off.

Whatever happens, it’s his choice, his legacy and his life. I think he gave the Bucs all he had, especially this season with all of the off-field distractions, lousy overall team performance, etc. He played every game, some while injured, and threw a record number of passes and completed a record number as well. He never once gave up.

Always a Buc in my book.

  31. Tom Sumner Says:

I’m glad to be single and no bs…lol

  32. Please Says:

“Bucs screwed him by not letting him go and play where he wanted to in 2022.”

I’m confused by this as well – where did you want the Bucs to trade him? KC? Philly? I think they’re good with their QBs.

San Fran couldn’t have traded what the Bucs/Brady would’ve deserved.

The Raiders? That would’ve just been mean.

  33. steele Says:

Somewhere between being around for the kids and having been wiped out, to the tune of tens of millions, by FTX…must have helped him decide what to do.

  34. Oneilbuc Says:

Brady is gone get over it none of yall know nothing about Brady’s personal life! Why don’t you Brady worshipers just ask him on Facebook about his personal life I’m sure he will tell you lol 🤣🤣🤣. NEfakefan acts like him and Brady are best friends and Brady don’t even know he exists on the planet lol 🤣🤣. It’s time for you to go back to New England and take the rest of his fan boys with you . Oh and take Redeemer with you because he’s a Brady worshiper like you . And Brady will retire as a Patriot not as a buc . But it’s time for all you I’m only here because of Brady type of fans . But I really think NEfakefan is not welcome back in New England lol 🤣🤣🤣!!

  35. Oneilbuc Says:
