Healthy And Necessary Return

January 2nd, 2022

A lot of fans wanted Mike Evans to sit out today’s game and rest his healing hamstring.

Joe is so glad Evans suited up.

He came off the COVID list late in the week and had very little practice time — and the Bucs should have been able to beat the Jets without him. But that clearly was not the case.

Evans didn’t look at full strength against the Jets this afternoon, and Bucs coaches had him on a pitch count, but Evans made a serious impact. He finished with 4 catches for 47 yards and a touchdown on 7 targets. Without Evans’ presence to help open the field for other receivers, Joe is sadly confident the Bucs would have lost today.

Evans appeared to make it through the game with out a hamstring setback, and now he needs just 54 yards receiving to extend his streak of 1,000-plus yards seasons to eight years.

Evans owns the record for most 1,000–receiving yard seasons to start a career.

Another key performance for the best receiver in Bucs history.

Shovel passes. Short passes. Motion pitches. Whatever it takes. Get him 1,000.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

I was watching Evans at the end of the game, and he sure looked like a decoy more than anything, I don’t think he was running anywhere near full speed. BUT that’s just from the TV angle, so I could certainly be wrong.

But it’s huge having him back. He’s going to need to carry the load , or at least occupy the defenses and let other guys shine.

  3. Mort Says:

A shame AB didn’t listen to Mike trying to calm him down. I really hope we can get Mike 55 yards to keep the streak going. One of the best dudes in the NFL. All class.

  4. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Hope he’s ready to play the best football of his career. He’ll have to for us to get back in the confetti this year.

    **** BUCS ARE STUPID ****

You don’t get AB, you suspend him for the rest of the season to keep another playoff team from picking him up.

McVay is exactly the type of guy that will pick him up.

  6. BradyBucs Says:

    * Edit: I meant Bucs are dumb for CUTTING AB and not just suspending him.

  7. Francisco Guzman Says:

BradyBucs at this point it’s all gravy. Their super bowl chances when out the window. I know Arians was involved with the AB blow-up but nobody will say.

  8. Rod Munch Says:

Arians saying he’s no longer on the team isn’t in fact an actual termination, Licht has to do that, and he could suspend him without pay if they really thought another team might pick him up, which is not going to happen.

  9. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

He will get his 1k next game at home & then rest the warrior…

  10. Francisco Guzman Says:

I wouldn’t let this guy go to another team. Just suspend him.

  11. DBS Says:

What would make anyone think someone would pick him up? A player that quits and walks out on his team in the middle of a game. A team that was counting on him.

If this was a normal 16 game season, he wouldn’t have made it.

  13. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

You guys that think another team is going to pick up AB this season have never played an organized team sport in your life. No chance. He completely quit on his team in a way that we’ve never seen before.

  14. orlbucfan Says:

BA brings goofball Brown back, HE needs his brain examined.

  15. Wesley Says:

    GOAT

  16. OHBucsFan Says:

If anyone is stupid enough to sign him after he QUIT on his team, the Bucs will be better for it. I get keeping him after covid but the team is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. Quit on the team and the team quits on you. Doesn’t get any simpler.

  17. Coburn Says:

Would be kind of a desperate move to sign a guy that quits on a team that’s got one of the best records in the league. Teams surely need to have some standards and that’s just asking for a distraction. Luckily Brady and some of the veteran leaders didn’t allow it to be a distraction. Mostly Brady I think

Today we saw everything right in football :Mike Evans
Today we saw the opposite of Mike Evans too. AB.

Any Mike Evans critics should always remember what class looks like. He might want to extend his record, but for him to want to do that against the Bucs best interest is ludicrous. He and LVD are Hall of farmers for loving this team.

  19. Miller5252 Says:

Evans will never get the coverage and live from the NFL he deserves. The man just goes out week after week doing what the Bucs ask of him, even if it hurts his stats. Evans os one of very few #1 receivers that isn’t a diva. Ole crazy eyes showed that today, even though his is more head problems, but still a diva. Enjoy watching Evans while you can….. they just don’t make em that way

  20. Listnfrmafar Says:

Mike Evans gets single coverage now and most if the time he can’t beat it. Why aren’t we talking about his bad route running today, he never comes back for the ball and the one time he did he dropped it right in his hands. Way overrated.

  21. Brandon Says:

    BradyBucs,

Nobody is picking him up, you clown. The Bucs were the only team to give him an offer in free agency BEFORE his latest mess ups. Only one stupid here is you and the other clowns that think Brown will be picked up with one game left in the regular season and play in the playoffs.
