Renewed Focus On Points

January 2nd, 2021

Expect big day tomorrow.

So yesterday the Bucs defense took a major kick in the nuts when linebackers Shaq Barrett and Devin White were placed on the Reserve/COVID list, thus they will not suit up tomorrow in the final 2020 regular season game at the Den of Depression.

Joe was thinking the Bucs would win a game that wasn’t too high-scoring. Now, Joe’s mind is changed

Bucco Bruce Arians said earlier in the week that his defense needed to do a better job putting Dixie Chicks quarterback Matty Ice on the ground. Well, after yesterday’s news, bye-bye pass rush.

So Joe has a hunch the Bucs are going to get involved in a shootout. And Joe likes the Bucs chances there.

And if the Bucs do get in a shootout, Joe doesn’t believe we should sweat if Mike Evans gets 40 yards receiving to break the NFL record of most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons to start a career.

I have a question about the record. If/when he breaks 1K tomorrow. Will his record stand forever now since they are adding a 17th game next year? How will the records be changed?

  2. Cobraboy Says:

    What’s the O/U?

I won’t be surprised if 90+ points are scored. 49-42 or more.

Whoever punts less will win, and if both are zero, it comes down to turnovers, and if those are equal, whoever has the ball last.

The real question: will the Falcons give a crap? It’s not like Raheem is auditioning for the Falcons HC job. Blank will clean house.

The only redeeming factor is JJ is out for ther Falcons.

  3. Joe Says:

    Mitch:

No records will be changed. If someone years from now breaks the record using using 17 games, he breaks it.

  4. Aceofaerospace Says:

Mitch, just as the Miami Dolphins finished their undefeated super bowl regular season 14-0. No one will ever know if they would have gone 16-0. So even though teams may go 14-2 or 15-1 and win the super bowl, until someone now goes 17-0 and wins it all, Miami keeps the undefeated record. One has to ask, had there been a Covid shortened season and a team finished 10-0 or 14-0 and won it all, would they have an asterisk by their record. To the best of my knowledge, there’s no asterisk by Miami’s record.

  5. EA Says:

This team has approached every game with the “shootout” mentality since BA has been a Head Coach, I don’t think this game would’ve been any different had the 2 linebackers been available.

  6. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Good point Joe – treat the scoreboard like a pinball machine!

  7. Mickman Says:

I am sure he will continue to distance himself the following years . Barring any injuries, he will have one more game per year to continue the streak.

  8. gp Says:

    @Mickman
    Good point
How long can the streak go?
Could he be the first to string a full career of 1000 yard seasons?
    How long might that last?

  9. adam from ny Says:

this really sucks about shaq and DW…

maybe things have been going too smooth on the covid front around one buc place this year…

hopefully this is a wake up call to keep focused, bubblized, and avoid the floozies until the offseason…

light up the scoreboard sunday and get this offense primed for the playoffs…

tom brady and our receiving corp vs. matty ice and ridley/gage…

we should win a shootout and it’ll be fun to watch

  10. Bird Says:

Kevin minter is pretty good at coverage inside linebacker. He has great instincts just an old body.

Have a feeling LVD will get those up the gut blitzing opportunities that devin white normally gets. Now shaq barret missing game sucks but he didnt do a ton last matchup. Cause i thought white got all 3 sacks. Now Jpp needs a monster game. So does suh. And nelson needs to have his game of the season.

But dont forget our offense will get rojo back. Thats a nice addition we didnt have last atlanta game. And maybe vaughn can get a few carries. So again , it sucks we have those guys out. But we got 1 stud back who can run for 100 and get his 1000 on the year. Could be worse. I am hoping atlanta is ready for offseason. Arthur blank probably wants a better draft spot to get their qb of future with only 4 wins. They are top 10. Maybe close to top 5

  11. Danny C Says:

I want our defense on the bench while we run the ball and keep their offense away from the field. I don’t trust our defense to stop them with no pash rush….sorry, the defense has let me down too many times this year. Falcon’s defense is actually pretty good and they can definitely stop our offense.

  12. Bird Says:

Atlanta with a loss has potential of 3rd overall pick
Depending on what texans do but texans dont need qb.
May be matty ice last game if new coach / gm wants to go another direction.
Again blank hates losing. So does raheem. But wonder if their starters play entire game too. Its not like they can keep a division opponent from not making playoffs so its a tad different. We are automatically in with loss. That 5 seed is worth fighting for against average nfc east.

And i like that rams are without starting qb and top receiver Cupp and olinemen and running back is out. Cause we still hold 5 if rams lose.

  13. John5 Says:

If we get into a shootout Brady is going to start throwing those picks again. He threw a few questionable balls against Detroit that, while turning into big plays for the Bucs, would’ve likely resulted in the opposite against even a mediocre defense. The Lions were just awful with their depleted secondary.

  14. Infomeplease Says:

1 TD or 6 TDs doesn’t matter… As long as the BUCS WIN!!!

  15. Mike C Says:

Good take John 5…… Brady looked questionable in a game he gets pulled at the half for blowing the other team out.

  16. David Says:

Mitch, the NFL used to be 14 regular season games, and when the records started falling in the 16 game seasons, they didn’t care. NFL records aren’t as significant as baseball.
Besides, all the passing and receiving marks are just going to be shattered more and more as the league basically allows the defense to do nothing.
The big plays are fun but I love a dominating defense and the pound it down your throat offense

  17. TheBradyBunch Says:

John 5 – Wtf are you talking about. Brady was lights out against Detroit and was throwing dimes.

  18. kevbeth5 Says:

John 5….wtf??? Put the bong down

  19. Listnfrmafar Says:

There is no doubt the offense if going to see if they can repeat Brady’s last 4 quarters. To be honest this whole ME13 record thing is pissing me off. If.he gets it great for him but it should not be a.focal point at this stage of.the season. How about Bucs get the 5 seed and worry about their first PO game.

  20. 1sparkybuc Says:

Mike Evans has busted his ass on garbage teams game after game, year after year. He deserves a league record all his own. Greatness needs to be recognized and rewarded. Walter Payton deserved the opportunity to score a TD in the ‘85 SB. Instead they gave it to a kitchen appliance. Mike Evens has earned his place in league history. It would be criminal to deny him.
