A future Hall of Famer playing in the NFC South isn’t happy about Tom Brady landing in Tampa.
Why? Because he’s taken some fun out of pass rushing against the Bucs.
Saints All-Decade defensive end Cameron Jordan sacked former Bucs starting QB Jameis Winston seven times over the past three seasons. That’s more than enough to get a pass rusher salivating when he sees the Bucs on the schedule.
But Jordan told SportsCenter this weekend that those days are over. He was asked for his thoughts on now facing Tom Brady twice a year.
“I mean, I’m not overly excited about it simply because we know that he makes all the quick throws,” Jordan said. “I mean, if he doesn’t see something down field that he likes he will check down. And as D-lineman, I’d rather him try to go for that deep ball.”
Joe’s so glad to hear Brady is deflating the hopes of edge rushers rather than footballs. It’s frustrating for a pass rusher to be demoralized repeatedly by effective check downs. It can wear on guys.
Jordan talked about the division as a whole. And while he’s impressed by the Bucs’ upgrades, he certainly seemed more wary of the Falcons adding Todd Gurley and remaking their defense.

Reminds me of a few years ago the Patriots and Bucs practiced together for a couple of days.. Someone asked a Bucs DL about going up against Brady and he said something about Tom not letting up and how quickly he would go through plays quickly tiring the DL and keeping them off balance…
NOW Brady plays for the Bucs…. Whoahoo!

Well when you throw the ball more than anyone, and you throw it deep more than anyone, you’re leaving yourself open to more sacks. So if for some reason you think giving up sacks are a more important scoring points, you can just call shorter pass plays. With Winston, I’d take the points – you know considering he set all the records for scoring and yards. With Brady however you can make the case that shorter passes and less points would be the correct choice since the injury factor is a lot higher. Both options are completely valid – but personally I’m fine with taking more sacks when you’re 3rd in scoring and one of the better teams when it comes to time of possession.
Thus, no risk it, no biscuit.

Patrickbucs – I know, or at least believe, you’re quoting someone so this isn’t aimed at you — but I strongly believe that anyone who says “clapped back” should be sent to ISIS for head removal. That’s just my humble opinion on the matter.

I’m glad you threw that last paragraph in there Joe. Too many are giddy about the ‘Bucs rising’ to challenge the Saints & seem to be looking past the Falcons. Big mistake. Falcons have made a number of improvements themselves & SHOULD match up reasonably well against both the the Saints & the Bucs this year.
And as far as Brady taking “some fun out of pass rushing against the Bucs” goes, I wouldn’t be so quick to make that assessment either. Yes Brady has a quicker release than Winston had, BUT … that’s still only one factor in the pressure/sacks equation IMO. He’s playing behind a different OLine & it’ll take time for them to learn how to best protect him. And Bucs receivers aren’t exactly known for getting gobs & gobs of separation early. And yes, BA’s system is considerably different from what Brady’s played in for coming up on 20 years now. And oh ya, the competition in the NFC South is probably a bit better than what he was seeing in the AFC East.
Notice Joe that I didn’t even mention the ‘age thing’ or that Brady threw for 60.8% last year … over 5% less than Matt Ryan (66.2%) and close to 15% less than Drew Brees (74.3%). But ya, Tom releases the ball fast, so we’re good.

Has anyone heard any updates on Kendell Beckwith? Is he officially retired or is a comeback still at least a tiny possibility? He’s still on the Bucs payroll which is why I bring it up.

Tom Brady will change a lot of prospective for the offense but it would be a huge mistake imho to put D. Smith back at LT. You don’t trade up to draft a RT, but you do draft one in the second like Smith. Wirfs athleticism is elite and would easily be a great replacement for D. Smith now. They should move D. Smith to RT imo because he doesn’t appear to have guard strength in the NFL either so RT is up his alley. Brady needs the best protection because he will not have the kind of timing ever again I believe especially being in a totally new setting

Panthers are putting together a defensive juggernaut. They are going to be tough once they finish.
Saints are the Saints again. Always a threat.
The Falcons are unpredictable. They tend do well, then bad, then well again. Probably the wild card of the division.
The Bucs are set for a hard run at the conference. I do wish we had a quality young QB waiting in the wings. We can’t just assume we can get Rodgers in a couple years.
I do not feel comfortable with Gabbert and Griffin as backups. One will be lucky to make it through camp uninjured, and the other has made a career of inexperience.
Would love to get Cam Newton in as a backup for $1 million, like the Saints did with Winston (assuming he’s still available).

This the exact reason the bucs should have traded down and got the best playmaker they could get in Rd 1. You dont need to move up in the draft to get a guard and try him at RT. Resign Dotson as Brady will get rid of the ball quick. I’d much rather we drafted defense, Cee Dee lamb, or down to get Elaire or the Swift.

TBBF … I get your point, but BA just isn’t the dink-and-dunk kind of coach. I think the difference between Brady & Winston will be what happens at the line. I never got the feeling that Jameis checked out of too many plays based on defensive formations, but Brady has made a career of doing that it seems.
Jameis always seemed to be too much of a ‘pleaser’ when it came to trying to do what his coaches wanted, as opposed to being a ‘field general’ who sued the play call as the starting point. Tom Brady doesn’t have that problem … he IS the ‘field general’. I think our offense (and Byron Leftwich) are in for a shock.
And Bonzai, nice assessment. I’m not comfortable with our backup QB situation either. Gut feeling is that there’s more yet to come.

Exactly why our Dline had never caused disruption before the second half of last season. Every defemsive snap our corners played so far off the line that the qb had a free play to whomever he desired.

Here’s a stat:
Patriots rank in points scored last 10 years: 2010-2019
7, 4, 2, 3, 3, 4, 3, 1, 3, 1
So last year was worst points scored rank in 10 years and they ranked 7th and won 12 games . Yes, they had no 1 defense.
Pats had NO 1000 yard rusher – he did have Sony Michel and James White
Brady had basically 2 receivers- Edelman and White . And a 38 year old Ben Watson at TE.
Now Brady has Evans, Godwin, Gronk, Brate, Howard, Tyler Johnson, Scotty Miller, Justin Watson and an upgraded OLine which will make Bucs a solid rushing team.
Bucs have a solid D as well and this will be proven as season plays out.
And yes, Virus worshippers, there will be an NFL season.

You guys are missing the point. He saying it clear as day Brady will go through his progressions. If he doesn’t like what he sees he checks it down. Negating some sack opportunity’s. Brees does the same thing they just do it quicker than most.

Everybody likes to bring up how we drafted OJ Howard and passed on Dalvin Cook. Well, I get that kick in the nuts feeling when I think about how we drafted Adrian Clayborne instead of this guy, who was taken 3 or 4 picks later. Ouch!

For some reason, people are fixated on statistics around here. When you are winning, the stats take care of themselves. Yes, moving the ball up and down the field is exciting. Is it more exciting than winning?
I’ll take winning with “dink and dunk” over big yards and losing any day of the week.
Why is it always “either/or” anyway?! There were tons of plays, shorter plays, left on the field last year that might’ve equaled more wins. You CAN have both, you know!

TOM – but we had a middle LB we just drafted the year before who played well. Hard to fault the Bucs as they needed a lot of guys – but Barron was a huge stretch, he just didn’t have any special traits, and if you pick in the top 10 you should get someone special. But Barron was no bust – he just wasn’t a top 10 guy.
