“Be Your Brother’s Keeper”

November 10th, 2019

Pregame speech taken to heart.

Usually in the post-Chucky era, the Bucs have personified the saying, “Bucs beating Bucs” as the source of the team’s woes.

It seemed like each week, the team would find a different way to lose.

Today, it was the Bucs found a way to win.

Yes, the Bucs made plenty of mistakes in order to lose. But they rallied. And to hear Bucs running back Peyton Barber, who scored the game-winning touchdown, making plays after teammates goofed up sprouted from the words of Bucs linebacker Lavonte David.

“That’s something that was in the pregame speech by Lavonte [David],” Barber said. “‘You’ve got to be your brother’s keeper .’ If you mess up. we’ll know that they have our back and [if] they mess up, we know that we’ve got their back.”

The Bucs very much picked up where their teammates puked. A David strip. A Jamel Dean pick. A Matt Gay do-over. It goes on.

Is this a turning point? It’s likely too late. But it is still cool to see.

For goodness sake just enjoy the win for like 10 minutes without the snide remark thrown in.

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It is too late to make the playoffs (probably), but that means nothing. Look at Dungy’s first year.

It would be nice. Would love to hand the Saints their second loss in a row next week.

  6. tmaxcon Says:

Bucs will never compete….. celebrate the meaningless wins and accept that’s all you get as a bucfan

  7. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Nothing is cooler than seeing thousands of Saints fans quietly leaving the stadium.

  8. H8JWLveBucs Says:

Be your brothers keeper huh? How about you and your brothers to your job and you wouldn’t have to be his keeper. DO YOUR JOB NOT YOUR BROTHERS JOB JESUS!!!!!!

  9. JimmyJack Says:

Dungy is a HOFer you everloving moron.

  10. Nate Says:

Two more interceptions!! I’m glad they won, but Jameis loves giving the football away. How can we still be evaluating this guy? I think we know what he is by now.

  11. ElioT Says:

    Jared Goof sucks.

Minkah Fitzpatrick is damn good and Marcus Peters got his 2nd pick six in three games with the Ravens.

It would be nice to have one of those guys in this secondary.

Today was a very tough game to watch, it just seemed flat all around.

But they won, and I’ll take it.

    Go Bucs.

  12. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Max…Dungy (& McKay) were the ones to turn this around. We were the worst sports franchise in history, and Dungy turned it around. He didn’t win a SB here, but that is not failure.

  13. tmaxcon Says:

    Christopher Schiefen

Nothing was turned around…. stop rewriting history whyche built bucs defense, Dungy and mckay failed to build offense, Gruden cleaned up Dungy the clowns mess in time for one good year…. that is cslled fluke one year wonders not turning it around… make no mistake about it this franchise has been and always will be a complete embarrassment to professional sports

Hof was rendered meaningless the day dungy the ignorant one dimensional clown was enshrined….. 2 play off wins in six years is laughable not legendary

So few but any Bucs win is like a momentary breath of fresh air.

  16. Jeffbuc Says:

We win a game and you guys still want to nay say and pick at everything. It’s the nfl no win is easy we won. Jameis played like Jameis the defense played like the defense and we had horrible calls against us. And are coach threw a challenge flag again without haveing a challenge. We know all that but we won enjoy it. We won as a team no one is to blame it is a team effort. Be a fan again just enjoy this win. We can all turn on 620 tomorrow and listen without being pissed.

  17. TampaTown Says:

It’s never too late to start winning

  18. RustyRhinos Says:

Tony Dungy is probably still praising Sam Wyche for collecting the peices needed for his mostly successful Tampa Tenure. Can you say welcome aboard 99 Sapp & 55 Brooks & 47 Lynch. Drafting of three Hall Of Fame players Great Job Sam Wyche!

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Rusty…

During his tenure as general manager, McKay drafted players such as Warren Sapp, John Lynch, Mike Alstott, Ronde Barber, Derrick Brooks, and Warrick Dunn. McKay constructed the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl-winning roster that featured seven Pro Bowl players. Also, the Buccaneers’ 41 Pro Bowl selections between 1997 through 2002 were the most in the NFL.

    McKay doesn’t get enough credit….

  20. Jmarkbuc Says:

People, and Tampax, try to discredit Dungy why? Because he took what was here before he got drafted and got the most out of it? Wyche didn’t win with those players.

Gruden did the same and people think he walked on water…..even though he had a losing record after the SB.

  21. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Joe

Why you pull my McKay post?
