Arians: It’s More Than Just One Win

October 2nd, 2019

All wins — and losses — are not created equal.

Joe supposes they would be if a football team was filled with inhuman life forms. But these are thinking, passionate and, in many cases, violent performers on the roster. Emotions play a big role.

And that’s why Sunday’s clobbering of the Rams in Los Angeles was so spectacular. Not only did the Bucs bounce back from a humiliating, soul-sucking home loss to a questionable team, they dropped 55 on the undefeated, defending NFC champs.

Bucco Bruce Arians wasn’t talking about the Giants loss on his radio show yesterday, but he was talking about the impact of beating the Rams like the Bucs did. Arians is not taking the it’s-just-one-game route that many coaches would.

“To win a game against that opponent on the road, for a young team, there are certain wins that mean more to them as far as their belief in each other and the system and everything else,” Arians said. “Those can go a long way.”

From your lips, Coach, the football gods’ ears.

Joe is going to hope upon hope that the Rams win is a real springboard. No, that doesn’t mean all good will be erased if the Bucs lose to the Saints in New Orleans on Sunday. But the Bucs truly should be able to build on what they accomplished offensively in L.A.

And why the hell not? This team should know it’s capable of four quarters of punishing offense, and all the offensive weapons are healthy.

Go score 27 points in New Orleans and find a way to make it enough for a “W.”

It took 3 games to figure it out….and you all saw the 4th one!

    Watch out NFL!! We’re coming!!!!!!!!!!

  2. FanO’Bucs Says:

    CAN YOU FEEL IT?!?!

    GO BUCS!!

  3. stpetebucsfan Says:

“No, that doesn’t mean all good will be erased if the Bucs lose to the Saints in New Orleans on Sunday.”

I agree Joe unless we LOSE instead of getting beat by one of the top five teams in the league.

If we play well..but the Saints “beat” us…I’ll keep up the hope.

There are some cliches being gouged on this thread…first by BA with his point that all wins are NOT equal…a win is not just a win is a win.

Another is there are no moral victories….perhaps…but I believe it’s far more important how the Bucs play Sunday than even the W. This team is gaining in confidence. If we play well..it’ll just continue to grow. If we CHOKE it will be…oh noes..here we go again.

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

Many have mentioned it before but this feels like the culture changing victory at San Diego in 96 when #55 and #99 said “enough”.

  5. m0j0 Says:

If anyone on the team was not all in before, they sure as heck better be by now. It’s clear that we have the players, schemes, play calling, etc that we need to be a playoff team. Now we have to go out and execute day in and day out to make it so.

  6. TampaTown Says:

Just don’t let Ira jinx us by picking the Bucs to win. I’m serious not trying to be a wise guy

  7. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Buying in to the BA way was the most important piece to the victory in LA!

  8. Cobraboy Says:

Just a couple of weeks ago some posters were talking about how Arians will quit *any day now* for health reasons, that he was in Tampa just to collect a paycheck.

I have long stated that Arians is in Tampa to cement his NFL legend. If he can turn the Bucs into real winners, he could be a HoF candidate.

Coaching matters. Funny how Licht’s drafts look so much better with superior coaching.

You can always count on casual fans to be the first on the bandwagon.

  9. Lamarcus Says:

Can I eat that “W” at end of your last sentence Joe?

  10. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Cobra

Great insight. BA is ALREADY fabulously wealthy! He did not NEED any Glazer loot. He’s absolutely set for life. So speculation on him coming here for $$$ seems silly to me.

I agree with you Cobra that BA is looking to cement his final image in the NFL. He’s already on the cusp of the HOF…if he turns the franchise with perhaps the worst reputation in all of the NFL around…he’s close to the HOF…if he should reach the SB with this team in the next 2 or 3 years…he’s in.

But I want to add one final thought. BA is a competitive person. He’s here because he LOVES his job and LOVES to compete. He believed that JW game him that chance.

  11. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

“We need the Todd Bowles and Patrick Peterson reunion like the old days in Arizona

Meathead GM Keim is going to be fired end of this year in Ari

promise him a job as lead golfcart mechanic

we can do some damage in the playoffs”

    Son of Kobe Faker

  12. tmaxcon Says:

does not BA understand that low standard bucfan has already certified this team a contender with all issues fixed and the oline is now a strength…. lol

BA just does not get his low standard desperate audience.

  13. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Big difference in experience, play calling, teaching and motivation with the Buc’s coaches this year than the previous 8-10 years. Hopefully this is a start to the next dynasty.

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The game in LA reminded me of a game in Seattle a few years ago where we led early by 21 and then collapsed to lose…
    This time we didn’t.

I usually look to see if we battle and play a competitive game…..but I want us to win against the Saints…..they are beatable with or without Brees.

We stop Kamara……score a bunch without turnovers and we will win.

We do need to clean up our ST….haven’t been happy with that group all year except for Pinion’s kickoffs. He is second in the NFL on touchback percentage with 88.9……last year we had a 59.3.

Judging from our coverage issues…..that’s a very good thing.

Pinion is also saving Matt Gay’s leg……and his punts are decent…above average.

  15. 813bucboi Says:

    the culture is changing!!!!!!!!!!!

now that BA has coached the dirk out of these players, its time to start stackin them W’s!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  16. 813bucboi Says:

    kobe

we need you to stfu and go help realist wash BA’s golf cart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  17. #1 BUCFAN Says:

The Bucs should have learned it takes 60 min. of Hard fought playing to WIN.
Minor injuries should be healed and that would mean the players are healthy.
Conditioned athletes can play hard for 60 minutes. Bucs can intimidate the QB
and win over the saints. 35 + to14

  18. J Says:

Tmax, you really are the most unoriginal hater. And you’re outnumbered by everyone that knows better.

What’s fun is watching your narrative change everytime the Bucs do well. You just can’t keep your powdered white lines straight.

  19. Pittsshore Says:

News flash Kobe. We are not making the playoffs. You do realize that we lost to the New York football giants at home??? That game alone will cost us when it’s all said and done.

  20. Cobraboy Says:

I thought Kobe was going to leave JBF if Jones got 80 yards or something.

  21. LordCornelius Says:

Kobe needs to stay because his reverse jinxes are working. Need him to predict some horrible sh1t for this game

  22. 813bucboi Says:

    pitts

    nawl….

the win vs the rams will propel us into the playoffs while dallas sits at home….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  23. Bojim Says:

We’re playing a backup QB you know. 😉

  24. Buccernutter Says:

    pittshore

what a stupid comment. Jones looks like the real deal and it was game 3 in a new system on both sides of the ball. I think it’s evident at this point we are improving greatly each week. 2-2 is right in the thick of things.

That game will not cost us. I bet you said we had no chance against LA.

  25. Defense Rules Says:

StPete – Great insight, especially your last paragraph. No doubt in my opinion that BA is definitely a competitive person; most successful athletes are. One thing that not too many fans seem to give him credit for is that he’s a GRRREAT teacher and motivator. Put all those qualities together and he’ll win a lot more over time than he’ll lose. We’re in good hands IMO.

  26. July Joe Says:

According to JC Cornell on twitter, the Bucs can EASILY make a trade of mere picks (no players needed) to the Cardinals for PATRICK PETERSON!

The Cards suck and might as well trade him and tank and you put Peterson on this defense and the sky is the limit!

Imagine this defense with a healthy JPP AND PATRICK PETERSON at the end of the year! If we do get into the playoffs, there isn’t a team in the league that would want to play us!!!!

  27. unbelievable Says:

Pittshore is really doing his best to win the ‘Lamest Poster on JBF award’

At this rate you might actually beat out t max

    Congrats!

  28. THE CORONER Says:

I was there in 1997 when the Bucs knocked Steve Young and Jerry Rice out of the game as the Bucs beat the 49ers.
After that win the Bucs changed their mentality into that of a winner. Let’s hope for the same change now after beating the Rams.

  29. GhostofSchiano Says:

    I BELIEVE IN BOWLES

Realist, get off those sheep….sick %#@&%$

  30. stpetebucsfan Says:

    July Joe

I’m not sure who JC Cornell is so forgive my ignorance.
In addition I don’t know how dated or recent his info might be.

The best I could come up with is from Sept 20th…so it’s a couple weeks old but…

    https://www.azcardinals.com/news/steve-keim-patrick-peterson-isn-t-going-anywhere

Not that I disagree with your post at all! You’re spot on I just fear we’re getting our chains jerked and false hopes. Because like virtually everyone here I would agree to give up pretty much because Peterson fills our major need at this point.

Yeah the young guys might develop but that’s fine…imagine their development playing and learning from Peterson.

  31. NeersGuru Says:

Unfortunately i won’t buy the culture change until I see further proof. We have had big road wins early in the last few seasons only to disappoint in the long haul. Hoping for the best though.

  32. Alanbucsfan Says:

Bucs will need to score 40 to beat Saints
The D must continue to stop run, pressure Bridgewater and get turnovers.
They are not shutting down Saints’ receivers.
We need you again , Jameis.

  33. #1bucsfan Says:

Dam someone stole my name. Lol

  34. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I disagree StPete. A 3 point loss does this team no good. If we really want to start the turn around of this franchise a win is needed. We just beat the Rams. Do it again and the confidence will start to grow. Lose and the media, fans and players will question whether they have truly arrived or not.
