NFL.com: Bucs “Will Have A Different Coach”

December 17th, 2018

NFL.com types odd angle.

Without hope, you are dead.

Joe sometimes doesn’t understand why people look down their noses at the draft and the annual spring celebration that is the release of the new NFL schedule.

They represent hope. They represent a new beginning. They represent promise.

And that is what Nick Shook of NFL.com wrote saying Bucs fans have hope and promise to look forward to as a new Bucs head coach will have much to work with. Shook is of the mind Bucs coach Dirk Koetter is toast, but the toaster hasn’t popped up the bread yet.

Unfortunately, the unit’s inability to muster much of anything and failure to capitalize on Ravens fumbles put Tampa Bay’s defense in a difficult spot, tasked with stopping a productive Ravens rushing attack (242 yards on 49 attempts) on a wet afternoon. This team will have a different coach next season and return a healthy amount of promising talent. Here’s to hoping they can do something with it.

Who knows if Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will get swept out of One Buc Palace in two weeks with who knows how many coaches? The first thing Licht needs to do, if he survives, is help assemble a coaching staff.

Once that task is finished Licht must build a running game, or he himself will be finished in 2019. If that means buying beers for Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh, Sean McVay, Ron Rivera, Jason Garrett or Anthony Lynn to find out what running backs to draft, then do so.

    Jason is the problem

  2. SOEbuc Says:

OMG!!! THEY MUST HAVE GENIUSES WORKING AROUND THE CLOCK OVER THERE AT NFL NETWORK!!!

  3. BrianBucs Says:

Licht needs to be fired first. Then let the new GM hire the new Head Coach

  4. buddy Says:

Can’t wait until BLACKMONDAY. Koetter is getting just what he deserves for stabbling Lovie Smith in the back. He got a little cocky with the media after having a few wins his first year. Then went out and fired long time loyal Bucs employees and also hired a equipment staff that none of the players trust or like being around. They snitch on the players to the coaches and the culture of the locker room is totally fractured with the support staff that’s currently in place. The entire football side needs to be cleaned out.

  5. Rayjay1122 Says:

The Bucs having a new head coach is about as informative as saying after midnight December 31st it will be 2019.

  6. Waterboy Says:

I’d prefer Jim Harbaugh not John.

  7. TJ Says:

Jason is part of the problem too. If he stays he needs to draft according to the new coaches scheme. Why draft Carlton davis when he is a bump and run corner to play him in off coverage. Why draft Noah Spence (who should play more than Gholston) when he is a undersized 3-4 DE. Why bring in Jenson (which they overpaid for him ) to block in a zone scheme when he is better at a power scheme. How many second round pick bust has Jason drafted ? Evans cant stay healthy, Jones,Spence and Stewart cant see the field Arroya is out of the NFL. SMH

  8. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Jason should ask coaches of other teams who to draft at RB? He can look up the message boards here and see what a dubnderbox he is and the 2 RBs he has passed on that many NFLers and joebucers know he should have grabbed like cook and/or guice. Licht needs to go, he is utterly clueless as a GM

  9. Knoxville Bucs Fan Says:

So every day for the next two weeks JBF will be featuring every Joe Tom Dick and Harry’s take on the State of the Bucs. It’s the life of a Bucs Fan. Yeah we call that “It’s A Bucs Life”

  10. Wombat Says:

    Fire LICHT!!!!

  11. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Where can I send my donation for the fire Licht billboard?

  12. D-Rome Says:

Jason Licht should be the first person to have his key card deactivated. The Buccaneers have to win the next two games in order for Jason Licht to have a better record than Mark Dominick over a five year span.

  13. Phil Says:

We could sign Kareem Hunt right now and not have to give up anything. Could have used him yesterday.

  14. ndog Says:

Wow the peeps are out to get Licht today I see. But if you same people think the coaching staff stinks then how can you be so sure the talent stinks if the coaches, who you think stink, are the ones telling them what to do?

    Food for thought…

  15. T REX Says:

    Man lands on moon!

  16. Bucsfanman Says:

Does ANYONE trust Licht to hire a coach?! Seriously?!

    That never happened, T REX.
    Just ask Steph Curry.

  18. ndog Says:

When it comes to talent ask these questions, then you will see where the problem lies.

Do you think Donovan Smith has met his potential, do you think Jameis has met his potential, do you think OJ has met his potential, do you think Kwon has met his potential, do you think Godwin has met his potential, do you think Hargraves has met his potential, do you think Spence has met his potential, do you think Justin or Mike Evans has met their potential, do you think our return game is as good as it can be, have we developed any kickers, have we gotten the best out of Marpet by moving him around every year, have we maxed out Ryan Jensen by making him play in a zone scheme when his best traits are power and going forward, do we take advantage of the talents of LVD or do we play him in zone where his skills go to waste?

I honestly don’t think he has ever hired one so we just don’t know yet really. He didn’t hire Lovie and everyone knew the day Lovie was fired that Dirk was the guy so did he really hire him or was that just what they had to say to cover up the shame interviews?

  20. Realbucfan941 Says:

    Phil,
Barber ran well yesterday when he had an actual hole. Man I wish we lost that saints game last year. Nelson would have transformed this team. By trickle down effect. Oh well, lots of work to do starting with canning warhop.

  21. zzbuc Says:

Fire GM !!!! He is the biggest problem we´ve got……..Keep on talking about young talented rotster……keep on fooling yourselves……the problem is exactly that one!!! LACK OF TALENT!!!!! floppy qb´s, no running game, floppy DL and OL no secondary……. Great WR and TD´s, JPP……… some days LD and somedays KA……apart from that just tell me where the talent is? VHlll? Justin Evans? Ronald Jones?Conte? Donovan Smith?Mich unrein? BEau Allen? Riley Bullough? Jaquizz Rogers? Maybe Bryan Anger? or Maybe the kickers I can keep on thowing names…….Just show me where the talent is……__

  22. miken Says:

“returning a healthy amount of young talent” … what? really?

  23. GrafikDetail Says:

not gonna give Licht a hard time with the Ronald Jones pick… every “expert” and fan agreed he was a good pick before & after the draft… with a decent O-line coach & OC next season Jones & the run game should be able to improve

  24. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

Buddy, that’s some Hella strong accusations what’s your source?

  25. SOEbuc Says:

Haha. Love it when people say Jim Harbaugh. Pay more to a college coach (NFL is BS compared to college with new rules) more than a vet NFL coach with a 15-10 playoff record.

  26. Robert Says:

koetter will have many offers and the new coach will be sunk if given the same qb

  27. SOEbuc Says:

    GrafikDetail

No way I wouldn’t give Shaun Wilson a chance to battle out the #2 spot. I really think he could produce more like the RB we thought we were getting in the second round.

Steph Curry if is a man, should say it to Buzz Aldrin, sure he is going to feel the real man fist in his face. 🙂

  29. StoutGospel Says:

Who the hell is Nick Shook?!?! 🙂

  30. Frank Pillow Says:

I suspect there has been quite a Cold War being waged within the wall of OBP between Dirk and his cronies and Jason and his personnel department. One of the first shots was Smitty’s retention (a power-play by Dirk), then Jay Hayes’ termination (retaliatory strike by Licht) and it carried over into the season with Smitty finally being relieved (Dirk may’ve owned it, but I don’t believe for a minute it was his doing). Now there’s the steady rumbling of coaching vs. talent talk out there and all of the open speculation that Dirk is definitely out- with both camps likely fueling the fire.

Ultimately, as much as I happen to think Jason Licht is one of the good guys, the 2016 & 2018 draft classes haven’t helped his cause. Add his abysmal FA record into the mix with Ws and Ls, and Jason’s case becomes a tough one to defend.

At this point, I hope ownership is taking a top-to-bottom view of the entire football operations side of the organization- no one should be safe, not with this record. No one.

  31. Scorps1234 Says:

Quite honestly the person happiest to see Koetter fired may very well be Koetter himself.

He has done all he can do and the Bucs are still a perennial loser. He has plenty of company in that regard I believe only 2 coaches have winning records with the club. He has got to be frustrated beyond belief. Better to move on and have the opportunity to be a winner than stay with the Bucs and lose even as.. especially as the head coach.

The odds of him landing on a winning coaching staff are much greater than the Bucs finding a head coach that is able to turn them into a winner. There is something broke in the organization and until that is fixed the odds are bleak.

Since I am making predictions this is what will happen. The next coach will be hired and excitement will rein. Local media will say this is a good hire, a solid hire, etc and 3 years from now we will be right back here.

  32. T REX Says:

There is an obvious culture of losing here that is ingrained into the very fabric of the franchise. We need a total housecleaning from the receptionist to waterboys to the front office. Start over and do it right. Hire a real Pres of Football Ops and get rid of the Stooge Boys.

  33. Max Says:

Jason Licht needs to go. Too many failures compared to hits on draft or free agency and most importantly the team just aint winining.

2014: Evans is the saving grace otherwise the rest are gone. (ASJ could have been good, sims was meh)
FA: Ghost Johnson, Anthony Collins, Mccown, Verner, Evan SMith. Really bad stuff

2015: All star draft. Jameis, Donovan, Ali, Kwon. (kenny bell lol)
FA: mostly inactive and forgettable when conte was the top signing

2016: Complete whiff of a draft. Hargreaves, spence, aguayo, ryan smith, caleb.
FA: Doug martin LOL. Sweezy. Ayers (decent) and grimes (good)

2017: Howard, Evans (bad pick), Godwin, Beckwith. Good draft but not great.
FA: Again it was real bad with Swaggy and Desean.

2018: Too soon to tell, but it may be decent draft considering everyone drafted above the 4th has played a good amount this year.
FA: Outside of JPP it’s been a letdown.

Haha, agreed 100%, CW!!! — Although Steph now says he was kidding.

  35. Bucsfanman Says:

ndog- I’m just basing it on what we’ve seen of his drafting and free-agency pick-ups. If he has trouble identifying and securing PLAYER talent, how can he know what a real coach looks like?
It needs to be a clean sweep, IMO.

  36. Not there yet Says:

Koetter is trash plain and simple and he can’t get a roster this stacked to do anything. Raheem Morris did way more with freaking josh Freeman and a band of misfits and mark dominick.

Why people think every year every draft pick is supposed to be a home run cant miss superstar from day one of rookie mini camp? Unfortunately the roster changes needed are decisions on the older veterans not the young guys. Koetters the offensive guru but refuses to bench players for younger guys to get them experience simply because he doesn’t care as much as you think he does. You force Rojo to play not freaking Jacquizz Rodgers. You play musical chairs with lineman to at least let them know if you can’t improve you sit. He can’t coach and the young guys should have been playing.

If Licht gets fired it will be the guys he drafted that make the difference in the success of the new coach. I bet next coach will win with these players

  37. uckinator Says:

    No hope; only pain.

  38. 813bucboi Says:

    fire dirk!!!!!

    KRIS RICHARD 4 HC!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  39. lewis Says:

Jones hasn’t had a chance how can u see what he can do when he gets 1 carry a game and the d knows where he is running /let the new coach evaluate him

  40. TOM Says:

If you want a real house cleaning start with the Glazers. But if they fire Koetter and not Licht that will not accomplish anything. Like I said before the bigger problem is Licht. Koetter had to play the crap players that Licht brought in.

  41. firethecannons Says:

jason Licht should be fired. He has committed multiple Buc felonies.

  42. dmatt Says:

    Waterboy,
I’m with u, let’s get this Jim Harbaugh campaign started.

  43. down in the dirt Doug Says:

    Right on Tom and firethecannons.

  44. Buccfan37 Says:

Licht carries himself as if he is not going anywhere. I hope he gets the awakening.

  45. IE Buc Says:

I don’t see the point of keeping Koetter around until Black Monday. We have qualified coaches in Duffner and Monken who could be interim HC. The Bucs need to take advantage of the last games to evaluate the players and team as a whole without Koetter.

  46. martinii Says:

You know what upsets me the most is not the coaches or the GM For that matter, it is the young prospects we draft in the spring who unless they are released after their four year rookie contract or cut before will if history repeats itself never know the revelry of winning a playoff game much less a super bowl. Coaches will slip back into the college ranks or resurface after a media gig but the kids that work so hard, sacrifice their bodies, and dream so much are doomed to failure with teams Like the Buc’s. Oh a few will become famous and rich but most will fall way short of their hard work and aspirations. And what may be the most cruel fate of all is the constant hate many will receive from the fans.
