Bucs Eyeing Redskins Pass Rusher

March 14th, 2018

Targeted?

This is an interesting target.

Per Jenna Laine of ESPN, the Bucs are one of three teams sniffing Redskins outside linebacker Trent Murphy.

Yes, a 34-outside linebacker.

Why? Aren’t the Bucs loaded with linebackers? Well, yeah, but the Bucs are also hurting terribly for a pass rush and Murphy does have a history of breathing on quarterbacks. Well, at least for one season.

Murphy, who never started a game in 2016, blew up with nine sacks. Then last year he blew up his knee and missed the entire season.

Even sitting out on a year with an injury, Murphy had as many sacks last year as Bucs starting defensive end Will Gholston.

So, yeah, Murphy would be an upgrade.

Eagles still have to cut Vinny Curry. No to this thing, we’ve had our fill of Redskins wash-outs thanks.

    Go Bucs!

  2. LakeLand Says:

He’s a 3-4 LB, that missed all of the 2017 season. Chris Baker was a 3-4 DE, who the Bucs tried to convert to a 4-3 NT. We seen how that worked out.

  3. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

    Perfect!
A player coming off an injury that hasn’t played in a year.
How has that Buc formula for success been working out?

Why does this franchise continue down the same path thinking…”This time it’ll be different”

  4. Lord Cornelius Says:

I’ve liked this guy for a bit.

This also may make sense of our interest in this Beau guy who is like 40 lbs heavier than Clinton McDonald. Sounds like a big 3-4 NT to me. Drat Vita Vea and all of a sudden we have 3 big hogs who can play the nose in a 3-4 between Vea/Beau/Stevie T.

    RDE-Ayers/Gholston
    NT-Vea/Beau/Stevie T
    LDE-McCoy/? – draft pick

OLB-Murphy/draft pick (Harold Landry if lucky)
    ILB-Kwon/Beckwith
    ILB-Lavonte/Beckwith
    OLB-Spence/?

Hey why the f*ck not at this point lol

    Buh-dump – tsssssss

You are on a roll Joes

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

Quick, delete this article!!!!!! Don’t let the sheep see thru the smoke screen!!!!! Big nose tackle backup, Bucs chasing outside rushers with experience in the 3-4!!!!!!!!!!

The smoke screen is in full effect, and the sheep can’t see!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. GhostofSchiano Says:

I have to hand it to Tmax, his comments about our free agency have spot on. Another back up player signing????

  8. lambchop Says:

Is he suited for a 4-3 or are going to use him ala Noah Spence? Insurance for another Spence disappearing act. Bring him in. Better than nothing but hopefully the hybrid scheme doesn’t leave the defensive players guessing what their responsibilities are. Again.

  9. LakeLand Says:

Murphy missed all of 2017 due to multiple injuries, including tears to his ACL and MCL in addition to offseason foot surgery. He also has a PED suspension in his past.

He would fit perfectly with the Bucs

  10. Joe Says:

You are on a roll Joes

    🙂

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Being out 2017, he will come dirt cheap. It’s worth a look at the very least…though he smells like a one year wonder. But that’s okay if he is…since he’d be cheap, making him a worthy risk to find out.

  12. Broy3434 Says:

Sure looks like they wanna go 3-4

  13. Broy3434 Says:

    Beckwith turned out just fine

  14. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Trent Murphy would be a decent signing, if he’s one of 3 pass rushers also brought in of a similar caliber.

His sole addition will do very little by itself.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Broy3434 Says
“Sure looks like they wanna go 3-4”

Naw. They just know DEs are not the only pass rushers around. Rashad Evans in the draft might make a good 4-3 DE for example.

  16. LakeLand Says:

    Just what the Bucs need

    Another Drugie

  17. Lord Cornelius Says:

@Realist I’ve been down with this as long as we draft Vea. I’m just too intrigued with that guy at this point as the next Ngata. If we trade down I feel like we might miss out and he’s the most key potential 3-4 player we could add in this draft

  18. Easy Says:

If it’s a veteran minimum why the hell not??

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Roto and PFT say the Bucs have agreed to terms with Beau Allen. Old news by now, I think, but is it a good signing?

I guess that depends on how you look at it. He’s not a big name. He’s not a sack master. What he is? Depth and a run stopper, which the Bucs struggled with last year (among many other things).

I’m sure many here scoff at it, but he’s a good enough signing for now.

  20. Bigbrother005 Says:

Don’t know if this has been mentioned and off topic but per Adam Schefter, Ryan Jenson is on his way to Tampa for a visit.

  21. lambchop Says:

Nate Solder just robbed a brinks truck. Dang, I wanted him in red and pewter but we can’t compete with that kind of money. We prefer to dredge the bottom for nickels.

  22. DB55 Says:

    Somebody owes me an apology.

I got real tears coming out my eyes after hearing about beau Allen. Lmao actually crying from laughter. Omg. Go Bucs!

  23. Lord Cornelius Says:

Yeah Ryan Jensen at this point would be the best possible signing of what is available. We could even live with Sweezy another year with this guy although I’d love to swap Sweezy for Sitton.

We sign Jensen/Sitton we can completely go Defense + RB in the draft. Hell even if we kept Sweezy I could live with just the Jensen upgrade which is huge.

    LT-Smith”
    LG-Sitton
    C-Jensen
    RG-Marpet
    T-Dot

That’s solid as f*ck. Then grab a RB in R2-R4 range and another RB in late rounds and we’re good to go. Draft Vea/3-4 DEs/3-4 OLBs/CB all other picks

Still should sign EJ Gaines so we don’t have to worry about needing to draft a CB in the draft – because right now we need a top 3 round pick going to CB to feel any sort of comfort level with that group.

If only we had like 6 picks in the first 3 rounds like Buffalo lol

  24. DB55 Says:

    #Tier3FreeAgents

Hey twitter police is it okay to panic yet? Lmao

  25. LakeLand Says:

    lambchop,

It’s hard to find good, quality left tackles.

  26. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

Updating an earlier post….Eagles will save $9 million against their cap by designating Vinny Curry a post-June 1 release or post-June 1 trade.

Both of those can be realized after 4:00pm today, and they will carry a $2 million dead money hit until June 1.

    🙂

Keep an eye on it Buc faithful!

    Go Bucs!

  27. 813bucboi Says:

LOL…..trent murphy…..how about Sheldon Richardson or kony ealy…..2 actual DE’s…..

    no urgency…..no excuse!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

PFT says that the Patriots are bidding against us for this guy. If they want him, he cannot be that bad.

But being him, I think he’ll take a patriots deal since better chance of a championship.

  29. mike10 Says:

Joe I know you keep going in on Gholston for a lack of sacks, but that’s not what he was signed to do. He was retained for 1st and 2nd downs, to run-stop.

You can’t blame him for the amount of money he was signed for. Blame Licht for paying him sack-specialist money.

But I don’t want to kick a productive player to the curb bc the GM overpaid him

  30. 813bucboi Says:

    @Realist

so you think that smitty can teach a 34 defense to players that never grasp his 43 defense?……ok….be my guest…..i’ll enjoy watching smitty put nails in his own coffin….lol….

    no urgency….no excuse!!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  31. c-spann Says:

in college he played with his hand in the dirt at Stanford. I think this is a goos sign if the medicals check out

  32. ATrain Says:

The Bucs are like Old People searching the Garage Sales for the antiques worth millions

    CHEAP CHEAP

Their seats should be CHEAP if these second rate beat up players is all they are going to get

“Hey find the guy with the blown out knee he will be cheap and heck it’s just his knee”

  33. Big Bucco Says:

Murphy is 6-foot-5, 290 pounds. It’s not like he can ONLY play linebacker. He’s a hybrid. The only concern here is that he likely won’t be ready for the start of the season, as most ACL tears take a bit more than a year to return to full speed.

Still, it’s just nice to see the Bucs actually have a pulse.

  34. Tval Says:

Nothing is trending on the bucs, outside of Jameis..LMAO!! Just build your depth and pipe down, tender foot..#jumpshipsissy

  35. The Buc Realist Says:

    @813bucboi

Sure!!!!!! And word on the street is, that the Glazers will give him a two year pass to accomplish it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. Joeypoppems Says:

    @813

Thats one thing people overlook. People want to run a 34 when Mike Smith has never coached a 34 defense….

  37. LakeLand Says:

    The Bucs are the Bucs

    Welcome to Sucksville, USA

  38. Bucsfanman Says:

We are probably NOT going strictly 3-4, not with the personnel we have anyways. However, “GOOD” coaches adjust. Why do we need to slap a label on it. How about, “Get the freakin’ QB” formation?! Who cares if it’s 4-3, 3-4, 6-2…..

  39. ManzielMadness Says:

Sure looks like they’re adding 3-4 personnel. Tremaine Edmunds would be worth a look if we head in that direction.

  40. Defense Rules Says:

You said the magic word Joe: ‘INJURY’. And preceded by the (implied) phrase “ONE GOOD YEAR’. Yup, Murphy will be a Buc by day’s end. The our LB problems will be solved. Oh wait …

  41. SteveK Says:

I like Murphy, and would be happy to sign him. He’s competitive AF and we can use more guys with an edge like this! Stanford educated too, so he’s smart!

  42. TeddyTB Says:

Why are y’all pretending this bum is somebody y’all want? Spend money on a injured nobody with one good season. Obviously if he comes to Tampa I’ll root for him with all I got but let’s be real people this isn’t the answer.

  43. denjoe Says:

We aren’t only bargain basebent, but also scratch and dent.LMAO!

  44. 813bucboi Says:

    @realist

smitty has had a 2year pass to teach his 43 defense……and failed….lol……another 2 years isn’t enough time for him to teach 34……lol……incompetence at its finest!!!!!!!!

    no urgency….no excuse

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  45. 813bucboi Says:

it may seem like we’re building 34 personnel but we’re actually building depth and versatility for the next regime!!!!!!

    no urgency…..no excuse

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!!

  46. Bobby M. Says:

Just want to point out, we banked on two DEs coming off injuries last yr….They didn’t last…we had 22 sacks. So yeah, let’s hit repeat and hope for the best.

  47. joestang Says:

WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH PLAYERS FROM WASHINGTON. ANOTHER DISMAL EXCUSE TO APPEASE FANS,

  48. lambchop Says:

    Trent Murphy to Bills.

  49. BuccLuck Says:

Thought that was Kerrigan. For a second I was very excited.
