Bucs Working Out A RB

March 14th, 2018

Non-free agent news.

This may help soothe frayed nerves for Bucs fans.

Since the Bucs appear to be sitting out free agency as it relates to any player who may make an impact, that doesn’t mean the personnel department is doing shots at a local watering hole while watching Kay Adams on NFL Network.

Since the Bucs apparently have turned their noses up (at least as of 11:20 a.m. Wednesday) at any free agent running back to help out a putrid rushing attack, they appear to be looking to the draft for a home run hitter in the backfield.

Per Josh Norris of Rotoworld.com, the Bucs are having LSU running back Derrius Guice go through a private workout with unnamed Bucs staffers today.

It is a pipe dream that Saquon Barkley will fall to the Bucs and Joe has been all about the trade-down train. Trade that No. 7 pick to a quarterback-hungry team and draft either Sony Michel or Guice later in the first round.

    @AlteredEgo….

    BINGO, Ego, BINGO!!!

You nailed it! 🙂 Well done sir.

    Go Bucs!

  3. uckinator Says:

A high powered center, left guard and a 2nd round RB, the offense should be set. Now…on the defense…???

  4. Pickgrin Says:

Guice or Sony. Both are great prospects. Nick Chubb and Rashaad Penny got game as well. Much rather have young legs with that kind of talent than pay too much for a vet FA RB!

  5. TeddyTB Says:

    Much rather Sony

  6. Bobby M. Says:

This is like saying the Bucs were trying to get….Bennett….Quinn….the lists goes on. We’re always floating the perception of trying, that’s how you sell the hope. In the end, we’ll be really excited about whomever lands in our lap….Hype them as the future….the realize 2 yrs from now we walked away with maybe on starter.

  7. tnew Says:

See Dalvin Cook as to why you shouldn’t count on a running back being available or not being able to do a deal to trade back up far enough to get the choice of player.

The draft is so fluid. Lets say a QB hungry team decides to jump to 3 and the colts get out. Somehow Chubb is sitting at 5 and Licht can jump two picks to get a pass rusher, then can’t get back into the first to pick Michel or Guice. There’s always Penny. But then he gets chosen at the very top of the third. This is how you end up cutting the 5th round pick.

  8. Nybucsfan Says:

We will have a new staff next year! It’s bad when the fans know your needs better than the GM.

  9. ATrain Says:

    So no FA
And Backup players in the draft

Y’all think the Bucs want to win PLEASE

Joe please give us an article on WHY THE BUCS HAVE DONE NOTHING

  10. doctor_berto Says:

No to Sony, dude is already 24 years old

  11. mike10 Says:

There will probably be a press conference today announcing the East Club renovation.

  12. Gencoimports Says:

Meanwhile we continue to ignore our needs with an edge rusher and in the secondary.

  13. Pa Privateer Says:

I have no issue drafting one of the RBs that rank in the late 1st through 3rd round. Guice would be fine with me

    side note:
Sign 3 of the following. Poe, Suh, Richardson or Kealy

Trade down from #7. Get a 2 DEs, RB, and a CB from the trade down

  14. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @mike10….LMAO! Nice, I agree.

    Go Bucs!

  15. Waterboy Says:

Smart planning to have a workout scheduled the day that free agency starts.

  16. LakeLand Says:

Can Derrius Guice put pressure on Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Drew Brees?

Can Derrius Guice cover Julio Jones, Michael Thomas, Devin Funchess?

I see another 32nd ranked defense in 2018

  17. Tnoles Says:

Hmm… Can he corner back? Much to do about nothing if you ask me.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Guice is injury prone, so he should fit right in.

  19. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

It really sucks that we suck, and have sucked for so long. I really thought we would have been much more active in Free Agency this year.

  20. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

RB is the least of the Bucs problems

That’s like shopping for a nice painting for a house without any drywall up yet.

FIX THE DAMN TRENCHES, FIX THE BUCS!!

  21. Hunter Says:

You can get Sony at the top of the second

  22. 813bucboi Says:

    would love guice….but would’ve loved Quinn…Wilkerson….instead….

    no urgency….no excuse!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  23. JL47 Says:

Guice is a bruiser, a speedy running back that creates plays. Him or Scarborough should suffice

  24. Joe Says:

RB is the least of the Bucs problems

Did we watch the same team???

  25. Broy3434 Says:

Bobby- this is similar to trying to get Quinn? God Joe do u even have a filter for these clowns. And another clown says running back is the least of our problems LMAO

  26. SOEbuc Says:

His jukes and getting through holes look like him and Barber could be a nice one-two punch. Licht don’t know sh!t about getting FA but he does know about drafting guys. We had a lot of meetings last year with Chris Godwin.

  27. LakeLand Says:

I have no problem with Derrius Guice

I have a problem with the neglect of DE, CB, SS

  28. LakeLand Says:

Every offseason Jason Licht neglect the Bucs most obvious needs. And this offseason is starting off on the wrong foot.

  29. bucs_365 Says:

    “Turned their noses up”

    — Yeah, Joe… They back out of making a 3rd string RB one of the top 5 paid players at his position. If McKinnon is gonna go north of 7 million per season, it makes sense to bail.

  30. bucs_365 Says:

So predictable. FA agency is open for 40 minutes, and the sky is already falling for Bucs fans…

  31. Bucsmissingsack Says:

Im convinced.. one more year..team sucks.. flush the Gm, coach and that crappy QB all at once

  32. SrqBucsFan Says:

    Lakeland

Name a DE worth attacking in FA? Don’t worry I’ll wait. Did we miss on Quinn? Maybe, but we have no idea if the rams wanted him to get out of the NFC altogether. Remember it takes two to trade doesn’t mean light didn’t try. Then who? Bennett? You mean the over the hill diva? I would be have dealt with his attitude if this 2aa a few years back but not now. Again, do we even think he would want to come back to Tampa after his surprise release?

So my question is again… where is this magical DE we should be going after to fix our defensive woes? This year was and is really soft on any good pass rushers.

My recommendation at this point is to spend whatever you have to and get the only legitimate pass rusher who will be available this off-season via draft or FA and get Suh. Idc the cost he is the only one worth it.

  33. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

Bucs fans! Bucs fans! Bucs fans!….what has THIS Bucs fan been saying….??

I thought you all might ENJOY this outstanding post below just now on Saquon Barkley, outlining EXACTLY what this Bucs fan had been stressing, hinting at…on and on Enjoy

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/03/14/does-carlos-hyde-take-browns-out-of-saquon-barkley-business/

Go Bucs! Go Barkley! Go Bold! Go Primetime!

  34. Walter Says:

Lol nice distraction Bucs. Go fix the RB position with a vet you idiots, instead of hoping a rookie blows up. Or you won’t be here next year Jason.

  35. Mike Johnson Says:

Man..what a circus aye guys? Harry Potter will deliver us a pass rush and all will be well in Buc fairytale land!

  36. NFLNut Says:

He won’t fall to our 2nd round pick imho … I think Nick Chubb and maybe Ronald Jones III will be available there, but not Guice.

  37. Joeypoppems Says:

I hope this means they see through the Barkley hype and realize who the real RB1 in this draft is.
