Money Didn’t Talk

A no-BS leader

Dirk Koetter is the ultimate candid NFL head coach, and today that candor extended to a massive bell of accountability ringing for his entire roster to hear.

Doug Martin was benched. Healthy scratch — for a guy earning $8 million a year with a shiny, new contract.

What a message Koetter sent. Translation: ‘Perform or sit. I don’t care what you’re earning. ‘

As Koetter says, carry a big mother f$%*’n stick, and the head coach did that today.

Team Glazer might not like it, knowing they still owe Martin another year at $8 million. Jason Licht might have preferred Martin at least be activated and share carries with Jacquizz Rodgers, but Koetter pushed his chips all-in.

Joe has nothing against Martin. This could have been another big-name player. Joe is simply applauding the courage and sack on the head coach. Not every coach, especially a first-year coach, would be so bold with an expensive player and the season on the line.

Joe hopes Martin bounces back and is a productive Buccaneer. If the Bucs can’t trade him, then they’ll need a good year out of him in 2017.

For the reading challenged, Joe is not advocating a trade for Martin, but the writing is on the wall. And Dirk Koetter wrote it in pen.

Who would trade for every other year back lol.

How come we don’t bench someone else on the d line that doesn’t perform in our biggest games. Everyone knows who im talking about. Doug blocks the best in pass protection and he is our best back imo. That’s why he got paid people. He must have pissed coach off some how

  2. Bigbucs1 Says:

Joe firing bullets at those “reading challenged”- I know who you talking to joe

People our time is 2017. We about to go get them HKs. Watch how we operate next season.

  4. lightningbuc Says:

The Bucs are 6-2 this year when Martin plays, 2-5 when he doesn’t. But yeah, blame Martin. Koetter pushed all his chips in, and the house took all his chips. Koetter carried a toothpick today, not a stick.

  5. No Surprise Says:

I guess he really proved his point. Great job, Coach. I’m sure the team will be thanking him all week. Isn’t his job to get the most out of his players? This reminds me of Lovie not being able to coach up Barron.

  6. Bigbucs1 Says:

Rob I agree with you- he is our best back, but hasn’t performed as he should though- people look at numbers only, most ppl don’t pay attention to the blocks – only what helps them win their fantasy football league- he probably pissed off the coach but I like the fact the coach won’t hold back on anything- no you can’t bench your best Dline – we barely have a rush as it is

  7. Bigbucs1 Says:

Rodgers wasn’t bad today why are you all bitching- Martin would’nt have done better today- saints were all over that oline and effort alone wasn’t gonna cut it- how many times did they get to Rodgers or sims behind the line?

  8. ben Says:

why doesn’t the qb Winston get benched? he overthrows anyone on a long pass ,holds the ball to long and is as accurate as a soccer player on throws.

  9. J$Mac Says:

The running back situation has gotten ridiculous to me. The blame is Chuck Sims ever since he came back we have lost. He’s not physical and I feel if we aren’t trying to turn him full time slot2 then he should be let go and we go after playmaker Dalvin Cook from FSU and keep Martin and Quiz one more season.

  10. Lamarcus Says:

Oh bad call to deactivate martin before the game. Talk about keeping ur team head in the game. If u was going to do it because of this his performance then do it earlier in the week and let the players soak it in. Coach decision to bench is the exact thing

  11. Rrsrq Says:

So coach K benches Martin, ok, but to kick an onside kick with 2:00 and all time outs, even if they went 3 and out, which hadn’t happened all night, they would’ve had us deep in our own end zone, players play and coaches coach, but the rookie coach has made some questionable coaching decisions.
Look, if it works he’s a genius. Joe would have preferred a mortar kick.–Joe

  12. Pawel Says:

    Winston still a young man.

  13. JD Says:

Lamarcus do a little research Jaquizz was told at Thursday’s practice he would get the start. Wasn’t right before the game

  14. mike10 Says:

Don’t agree w the decision but respect making a move.

  15. SOEbuc Says:

What is the problem here? We put in our other very productive RB from this year because our other RB has been crap coming off a long hamstring injury. And Quizz played a good game like he usually does. If we can get some weapons on the o line pass and run will be terrif. See if Sweezy can help the run next year.

  16. cometowin2 Says:

Need at least a RT and a Center in addition to a WR and TE. Love Hawleys attitude but he’s not clearing anyone out in the run game. This is a disappointing end to the season.

Can’t respect coach k for sitting on 3 tos before half time. Where was his stick? If he’d started calling games like he performs behind a podium maybe we’d be 10-5 right now.
