“We Don’t Want No Offense To Be Able To Dictate What They Do”

There was just enough good from a porous Bucs defense today.

And defensive end Robert Ayers summed it up very well.

Talking to Casey Phillips of Buccaneers.com after the game, Ayers said the Bucs did a strong job stifling the Atlanta running game, which had a miserable 52 yards on 22 carries.

“We don’t want no offense to be able to dictate what they do,” said Ayers, who went on to say the Falcons countered successfully with “boots” and “gadget plays.”

Ayers said he was very nervous in his first game as a Buccaneer. He also lauded the Falcons offense for being one of the best in the NFL, as well as the play of Gerald McCoy.

Asked about winning for Mike Smith, the former Falcons head coach, Ayers shrugged that off completely. Ayers, who had one sack off the right edge today, said he only plays anything for one reason.

“I don’t believe in losing,” he said.

This guys attitude is contagious. “I don’t believe in losing.” That’s an instant classic

may have gave up yards but the red zone defense (25%) and 3rd down defense (23%) were outstanding though

Still a few bugs to workout but this is going to be a good year. 6

Glad the defense didn’t give up an 18 point lead to lose the game. Jameis had a great game after starting off slow again and spotting Atlanta 7 points.

A much needed Rough ridah. Thank you for choosing the Bay Mr. Ayers.

believe int was a mis communication.Jameis did miss Evans early but there were a lot of safe passes and checkdowns thrown early in the game but the offense was opened up after the first half TD.We can live with that kind of slow start but not falling behind by 2 or 3 TD”S.Would rather see Evans or Sims run deep sideline pass thrown to Humphries .

  11. Doctor Stroud Says:

His comments remind me of what Warren Sapp used to tell the defense, something like: “we do what we do”. Great job! Now, prepare for Arizona!

    Losing? I’m against it

Overall I was pleased with the team effort. Special teams was pretty good, offense starting clicking a bit late but showed up. The defense is still my biggest concern. I think they did much better than a Lovie coached team, but still have a long way to go.

Again, overall very happy to be a fan of the 1st place NFC South BUCS!!!

    GO BUCS!!!

I loved that he made some early big impact plays. Helped set the tone for the defense early on and the bucs did well. The NFL is geared towards offense. So there will not be many great defensive games in the NFL. What the defense did today was awesome! They stopped the run and got off the field on third down. they also did well in the redzone, holding them on a couple of occasions and forcing FGs. Those things are really the measure of a good defense.

The safety play was bad today. Conte is a liability in pass coverage and McDougal was invisible but for one play. Coaching is going to have to fix that or we need to get some new players back there. Fortunately, safety is an easier position to pick up if we do want to trade this year. Perhaps Verner could sub in as an extra corner on passing downs.

Adam Humphries was a nice piece to have last year, but with the roster talent improving, we need a better 3rd WR. I hope Murphy is healing well. I also wish we’d have a look at Shep in the slot, the guys has got incredible athletic ability.

There shouldn’t have been a personal foul for celebrating. It was the right call, but the coaches should cover that in preseason. If it happens again I think that is a MAJOR problem. Once is it.

Licht is a genius, in that, having an exceptional punter and place kicker are two relatively inexpensive ways to improve your teams W\L record immediately. Mark my words, our kicking game will win us at least two games this year. Our punter, sadly, he excites me.

Jamies was two overthrows away from connecting on wide open receivers for two more long TDs today. We need to take shots regularly, it will have success, but the tape will open up lanes for the running game. The miss on Evans early was bad, discouraging.

Charles Sims is an exceptional back. What a luxury to have as a number 2. I don’t know if that was a Lovie or Licht pick, but that was inspired.

GMC is so so so good. If you are into it enough to watch that game again, watch GMC as much as you can. The sacks from the edge, the running game contain, all because of GMC. Other than Winston, his loss would be the most devastating.

Love Kwon. 4th round? That has to be some of the best drafting in Bucs history. Just look at the last three years. Gruden never did that. McKay didn’t. No one has.
