Thank You, Kyle Shanahan

Dimwit Atlanta offensive coordinator.

What the hell was he thinking?

Joe doesn’t give a damn, but Joe would like to personally thank Dixie Chicks offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan for going all Lovie Smith late in the first half.

The Dixie Chicks were in the red zone and just got hit with a false start on Jake Matthews as the two-minute warning arrived. It was third down and Atlanta needed 17 for a first down. Loads of time left in the half.

Inexplicably, Shanahan called for a run play with Tevin Coleman charging into the middle of the Bucs defense for a meager one-yard gain. Fourth down, kick a field goal.

What in the world??? That’s Lovie Smith — or worse, Father Dungy — at his finest.

Atlanta has all-world tall wide receiver Julio Jones and one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL in Matty Ice and they don’t try to launch one in the end zone to take a 17-10 lead? That’s insane! And Joe is thankful.

By going turtle, Shanahan and the Falcons gave away four points. Now fast-forward to the end of the game. The Dixie Chicks need a touchdown with two minutes left. You don’t think Shanahan would have called different plays if he only needed a field goal to tie the game?

Word to the wise: never, ever leave points on the field. Never, ever play turtle. But if you do, make sure you do it facing the Bucs.

That’s a real stretch that they gave away 4 points.

    Amen

I coulda sworn Lovie was meditating in his basement up there in IL, trying to telepathically channel our D with some of his ‘hold-up, back-off, just-wait’… but his weak teachings couldnt penetrate the blinding aura from Winston, whose illuminated willpower deflects and shuts down any passive and low energy intentions.

Joe did you really just call running a draw play on 3rd and 17 “giving away 4 points?”

This isn’t Madden…Shanahan definitely made the right call in that situation.

Yet to speak with someone that thought it was smart for the Falcons to go turtle there and pretend they are Lovie Smith.

  6. lurker Says:

that is not giving away 4 points…where do you come up with this stuff at times?

  7. Jim Says:

Gave away four points…what the hell? They also risk giving away a fairly certain 3 points by throwing a risky pass that could be intercepted. Goes both ways buddy.

    Play p^$%^ get f*&@*@

    Missing the point anybody???

Not trying to launch one up for Julio is truly stupid!!!
    FG is already there.. Duh

it was not stupid…watch some nfl games.

They were actually moving the ball well on the ground in that drive. Conceding a FG on 3rd and 17 to take the lead isnt a terrible idea. I mean, they did take the lead with those points. Can’t second guess putting sure points on the board. Now if it was 3rd and 17 out of FG range and run a draw just to punt. That i have an issue with. Too many time have bucs teams gone with that strategy. And we all know the long history of the Bucs their desolate offenses. So many years of poor offensive philosophy and the fresh attitude at one bucs place with koetter’s attackin offense, has made any conservative idea taboo to Joe and other Bucs fans. But there is still logic to playing conservatively. Cochea just have to balance it, and know when to tKe risks and when to hold back. You can’t always be conservative nor always take risks.

Thank God we now have a coach that will use a timeout, get the ball back with less than 2 min left in first half and try (and succeed!!) to score. Praise be to gawd!!

    Joe is right
We were just waiting for disaster to happen with a likely strike to Julio then they have a run play into the midst of the pack–Honestly I thought the station jumped forward and I missed a play. I remember thinking wtf just happened.

This guy right here: you crack me up with the lovie in the basement stuff! LMAO!
lack of penalties was amazing stuff!–the worse one was the GMC/Kwon play–stupid penalty on a great play

Well, Joe, if we learned anything from Lovie it’s that sometimes you just don’t need to put any more points on the board before the half. That tends to go well.

    Hey Joe(s),
Watch it with the Tony Dungy (HOF Coach) cracks. Some of us moldy oldies on here remember all too well the Bucs Dark Ages before you were born. 🙁 How did the Falcons blow it? They scored points. Bucs looked like a solid team, but the Dixie Chicks O was scoring, too. It wasn’t a blowout. Big test next week out in the desert. Go Mighty Bucs!!
