In total, the Buccaneers have pumped 44 balls downfield for 20+ yards. That’s tied for sixth best in the NFL. Josh McCown, despite eight more passing attempts than Mike Glennon, has completed two fewer throws of 20+ yards than Glennon.
McCown’s 59.2 percent completion rate might sound pretty good to the casual NFL fan, but consider that rate ranks 39th in the NFL. That puts McCown behind rookies Zach Mettenberger, Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles. Glennon is 43rd overall.
As for McCown’s nine interceptions in 211 attempts, that puts him the same ballpark of NFL slugs Geno Smith (10 INTs in 245 attempts) and Kirk Cousins (nine picks in 204 attempts). Glennon has six picks in 203 attempts, a respectable rate.
McCown’s seven touchdown throws? That also ranks him among some NFL rookies, as well as Geno Smith and Drew Stanton. Notice a trend. Glennon has 10 TD passes.
Quarterback rating? Joe hates that stat, but for those who find it meaningful, McCown ranks 45th in the NFL with 75.1 rating. Glennon is 33rd with an 83.3 rating.
Yes, stats are for losers. McCown is good at losing, too. He’s 1-6 as a Tampa Bay starter. His career mark is 17-28.

When Glennon got pulled, he had 0 games with more turnovers than TDs. Josh McCown has 4 games this year with more turnovers than TDs.
And people think Lovie is drafting Mariota, AND starting him ahead of McCown? Do those same people want some ocean front property I got in Tulsa?

I thought McCown made some decent throws yesterday, but the same career long problems still remain.
The guy holds the ball too long then throws picks under pressure.
He was brought in because it was perceived that the Cannon had cement feet. How many plays did McCown extend with his feet yesterday?

Our head coach won’t even play the best quarterback on the roster…Glennon is the best quarterback in the past 2 drafts, stat wise…Even if he isn’t our franchise icon we can still trade him unlike McClown! Even Fitzpatrick put up 6tds yesterday

Glennon seemed to thrive in a 2-minute hurry up offense if I recall. McCown doesn’t even seem like he knows what one is, or how to manage it. There is no hurry up in his game. With the defense playing the way it has and Glennon’s ability to run the hurry up; I have to believe that we would have another 2 wins.

Lovie Smith has a guaranteed contract $20 million. If he gets fired he gets to collect it all and not work.

The only fun thing to watch in the offense are balls to Mike Evans, and Glennon couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn.
The balls McCown threw to Evans against Washington were absolutely perfect. Glennon has never had that kind of skill, he never hits anyone in stride, ever.

If I was glennon I tell 75% of you haters to go sick a duck and ask for a trade immediately or get “hurt”. Tampa don’t deserve to have glennon play. Stick with mccown like you have been since OTAs. After all the embarrassment and ridicule I’d want nothing to do with this org. I’d take me an my non-mobile, long neck self who can’t throw accurately to a team that can appreciate me.

At this point for most but Lovie it has less to do with winning than it does player development and that includes Glennon…..there is nothing but positives by starting him….if he does well, it helps his trade value….if he doesn’t do well it at least gives him more backup experience and makes our decision to

Well, since I would rather have the first overall pick I would like to start Josh McCown, If I was pushing for a playoff birth I would start Mike Glennon.

Mg is average but better than mcnown. I’ve said all along we are focusing way to much qb, if mariotta or Winston grade out as franchise qbs come draft time by all means take them.. But, how can you crush mg with this crap o-line? And no oc? And no running game? The fact his stats are respectable is impressive. Also he’s a rookie practically.. Again, tell me other than thru a high draft pick we can bring in here and do better with this offense?

In an era where all of the rules favor offenses, ours is putrid and unwatchable. They aren’t the least bit dangerous and we rarely seem to have a receiver that isn’t blanketed by coverage.
Flipping to the RedZone channel shows that other teams actually have some offense. Every week, we seem to be playing the 1985 Bears defense.

Lovie is STUBBORN when it comes to QB’s – always has been. The Bucs are going to be in a prime position to draft a franchise caliber guy in May, and I’m seriously concerned that Lovie won’t pull the trigger.

McCown is our ticket to a top 3 draft choice next spring. Glennon appears to have already been abandoned by the Bucs leadership. Starting Glennon may win us a game or two more, and make him a more attractive trade commodity, but it will cost us a higher position in the Draft. Continuing to start McCown will mean we lose each Sunday, but we will be in a better position to draft a QB next April. Decisions, decisions! Only the two engineers of this train wreck of a season (Lovie Smith and Jason Licht) know which way they want to go! All we fans know is that this team is a hot mess right now and we are still probably at least 2-3 more seasons away from any kind of turn around. Heavy sigh……

Glennon doesn’t blink on the final two minutes of the game the online constantly let him down and receivers not being in the right spot or holding on the damn ball (asj in Minnesota and Cleveland’s game) but mccown on the other hand looks lost when the games on the line and he always makes a bonehead decision to gift wrap the game for opposing teams. But both qb’s are below average because qb’s should win games at home at least the good ones do because there more focused in there environment. Tho glennon has more upside he puts balls where his receivers can only make the play when not pressured plus he also can connect with Herron unlike mccown giving a short speedster jump balls over the middle.

I’d say the loss of Tedford has had a greater impact on this team than most people appear to think it has. It’s an offensive league where strategy and play calling matter more than ever. At the moment, both Lovie and Frazier are helping Arroyo gameplan. That’s not good. Lovie needs to hire a quality OC and let the man have complete control of the offense, which is what I was hoping Tedford would have.

I’m all on board with drafting a qb. Mc own makes bad decisions even when he has time. I don’t want to see glennon or mc clown play a single down next year. I’m over it. I’ve said we have bigger holes to fill but I think qb is the biggest hole.
I don’t care if it’s winston or whoever just as long as it’s NOT glennon or mc clown.

Joe you keep forgetting about third down conversion rates. Arguably the biggest stat when judging the qb.
In your statistical breakdown it basically showed Glennon maybe slightly Ina. Better light than Mccown, but he was still ranked as worse than 40 other abs in the NFL. Lol stop lobbying for this bum joe. No one wants to see him.

Last year, the Bucs were 32nd in the league in total yards, 32nd in passing yards, and 30th in scoring. Under Glennon this season, they weren’t much better…but right now, the team ranks 26th in the NFL in total yards, 28th in points per game, and has the 18th most passing yards in the league…after finishing dead last last season. What’s the difference? The OL is worse, the offensive coordinator is likely worse, the biggest difference is the man throwing the passes. McCown keeps drives going with his arm and legs. He makes terrible decisions at times, but he competes on every play. Mike Glennon is so worried to make a mistake that he never makes a play…plus his completion percentage is even worse than McCown’s.
This team is one good QB away from being a contender. I hope we bench McCown and go with Glennon the rest of the way, McCown scares me too much as he gives us a much better shot at a win.

Did Brandon just say we’re a good QB away from being a contender? Contender for what? To win the SEC? To beat Jacksonville and Oakland back to back? Holy crap we’re one player away from being a contender?
St. Louis, Kansas City these are teams who are a QB away from winning it all. The only QB that would make us close to contenders are Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning. You’ll be shocked to learn none are available. The Bucs are 8 pieces away, at least, from being contenders.

P. Manning: 33 TDs, 33 INTs
Luck: 26 TDs, 19 INTs
Rodgers: 32 TDs, 13 INTs (But this was his 4th year, 1st as starter)
Griffin: 26 TDs, 9 INTs
Vick: 18 TDs, 10 INTs

It really doesn’t matter which QB starts. There is not enough talent/discipline to win any of the remaining games (possible exception of MAYBE either the Panthers or Saints).
There is NO doubt about what McCown offers. The entire league has 13 years of fairly consistent evidence. Glennon has played less than two seasons and under three OCs. The receiver he was most comfortable with was traded. IMO, it would be best to let him run the table. If he looks better, by the end of the season, he will be (at worst) an inexpensive backup. Right now his trade value is non-existent. He was replaced by MCCOWN. If he just looks average, some team might be willing to make an offer.

Start Glennon !!! We have 4 games to really see if you let him go or trade him. Don’t think he can be the backup with the past history and being bascially Schianos guy. On any other team that doesn’t have veteran QB this guy would be starting.. Most rookies are garbage the first couple of years or take a step backwards (RG3). The numbers don’t lie Glennon for a young guy is solid and can get better. Look McCown never really improved in 11 seasons and when given a chance to start (with the exception of a few Bears games) he always failed…Seems like a good guy,QB coach material.
Start Glennon like all the other teams would.
