Morning Cup Of Joe
October 14th, 2026
Welcome to your Morning Cup of Joe, an eye-opener to help Joe’s readers ease into their busy workday with a few football links, wacky news and a pleasant distraction.
Did Jayden Daniels know the NFL overtime rules? If not, he wouldn’t be the first quarterback who didn’t know overtime rules. [PFT]
Best free agent signings through five weeks. [CBS]
Cowboys hire one of the biggest slugs in recent memory to try to fix their defense. LOL! What, Mike Smith wasn’t available? [Yahoo!]
Trade grades. [NFL]
Joe has no idea what the end game was here until the very end. [TikTok]
Joe is a huge fan of Sunday Ticket and became a subscriber when it first came out. Greatest invention since the remote. But Mike Florio has a very good point: If Joe, as a consumer and subscriber of Sunday Ticket, wanted to watch a West Coast game even though a 1 p.m. game runs long, why can’t Joe watch the full West Coast game? Why is the start of the West Coast game blacked out because the 1 p.m. game runs long? That’s a major loophole. Either delay the 4 p.m. game or give fans the whole game. [Awful Announcing]
Bills-Rams absolutely lived up to the hype. [Outkick]
Lousy Lovie Smith gets into a hassle at a high school where his son coaches. No, not that son. Lovie is an assistant coach there. Poor kids. [Bro Bible]
College teams are bailing on Nike. [Sport and State]
One of those frauds that Lane Kiffin urged to try to play both sides of the fence and play for both LSU and the NFL suddenly got a green light from the NFL to play. Doesn’t mean anyone will sign him. Just go play in the UFL, dude. And props for letting your brothers at LSU down. [Front Office Sports]
The Great Cornholio + fire = comedy. [TikTok]

Annie’s bit with Siriani using AI on coaching decisions… 🤣 That’s a witty girl!
I’m at the point now where I’m rooting for a 49ers losing streak.

To be fair, I forgot that it’s no longer first team to score a touchdown wins. I’m just a fan though.
Why the telephone pole? Just do Sumo. It’s virtually the same sport.
I watched that segment on PFT on Monday and Florio was spot on. Of course, I don’t pay for Sunday Ticket, but I do pay for other services where this wasn’t an issue for me. I’m not sorry about it either. As corporations and streaming services change the definition of subscriptions and ownership then I’ll change the definition of digital access.

College teams are bailing on Nike.

Good! One hopes pro sports leagues follow suit, for the same reason that Joe turned comments off on the “Fake News” post. Know what you are and stick to that. Nike apparently takes the opposite approach, so I’m fine with people (and college/pro level teams) fleeing the brand.
Do sports. Do sports well. Stop popping off at the metaphorical mouth with your suits’ political tripe in some effort to win over more customers from your ideology than your quality.

Now that Brazwell was cut by Houston, can we blame Licht and not Bowles for everything. I cannot think of a player cut or not resigned by the Bucs that played better than he did in Tampa.
Glazers need to clean house. And I may want to hire the Tampa Bay Rays front office, they seem to know how to manage a team with limited resources, something the Bucs will have until Baker is off the books.

Lovie has no defense for his actions. Haha

There are a few, but it’s very rare. I think the key distinction is “finding success” vs. “playing better”. LeGarrette Blount played better. Aqib Talib definitely played better (I’d argue he’s a borderline HoFer). Michael Bennett played better. Adrian Clayborne had his best season in Atlanta (after the Bucs).
Strange. All the names that came to mind are guys who all played together here.
In hindsight, maybe Mark Dominick wasn’t too terrible at drafting. It’s the free agency signings that were awful.
