Bucs Need A Better Baker Mayfield
October 23rd, 2026
Need better results.
Joe was watching a fan video on TikTok last night and the creator was none too pleased with Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson.
When he played a clip of Robinson from yesterday’s press conference referring to a “tough” meeting he had Monday with his offense, the creator added, “And I hope they cussed yo’ @ss out!”
Touche!
So it is a good thing thatBaker Mayfield is back. Joe thinks we all saw last week why every team in the NFL passed on Jalon Daniels multiple times in the draft, including the Bucs.
Daniels has a lot of heart and he may be a decent quarterback someday but he wasn’t (yet) ready for the big time.
That doesn’t mean Mayfield was playing like Steve Young before he dislocated a thumb. Here are numbers from Rich Hribar of Sharp Football Analysis about Mayfield’s play before he was hurt.
He completed 63.5% of his passes (20th) for 6.4 yards per attempt (23rd) and a 2.1% touchdown rate (30th).
He was also sacked on 11.9% of his dropbacks, 32nd in the league.
(Joe is going to have to dig up a stathead whose calculations say Mayfield was the culprit in Mayfield’s sacks, not the offensive line.)
So it is great that Mayfield is back. Now the Bucs must cross their fingers Mayfield’s thumb is OK. But for the Bucs to get back into the playoff race, Mayfield simply has to play better than he was before his injury.

How to correct this mess? It has been long overdue that Todd “Radio” “the toilet” Bowles needs to go. Now it is evident that Robinson needs to go as well. Tell me I am wrong?
October 23rd, 2026 at 7:13 am
Jalon Daniels was sacked 6 times in two games!!! It’s ok to say Mayfield needs to play better nobody is disagreeing. To say it’s him and not the offensive line you must NOT have been watching the games. Nothing works better than the eye test.
October 23rd, 2026 at 7:20 am
Buc fan phoenix. The one thing everyone is missing about Bowles is he has the defense ranked top 10 . I think they’re ranked 6th and no one once to give him credit for that at least now Bowles made some bad decisions on his hiring his staff that’s on him. And by him bringing in Baker is on him as well. Baker is the main problem with this team we don’t have a quarterback that can close out games that’s the problem.
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:08 am
If we go 1-8 at the bye heads must roll. HC and GM should go first.
They are very easily replaceable by just about anyone with a pulse.
Neither of them are game changers in a positive way.
The Glazer offspring need to do a complete overhaul and start fresh.
Brady proved it just takes bold thinking to change your destiny.
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:10 am
Jason Licht: 94–109
Todd Bowles: 62–81
Baker Mayfield: 58–65
Not sure what people don’t understand. Yet, some continue to blame an individual instead of looking at the picture holistically. If you mix three piles of sh!t, you don’t magically get a pile of gold. All you’re left with is larger pile of sh!t. There is no savior in Tampa right now.
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:12 am
Baker has been playing like crap for the last 12 games. But to say baker is the main problem is just inaccurate. The playcalling has been absolutely atrocious, predictable, the oline has been shoddy, poor run blocking, penalties, missed blitz pickups. Last year when Baker was playing like an MVP he won several games in the 4th quarter. This team is just poorly coached and the players are not utilized properly. Yes the defense is playing good but it’s still the same issues. Inconsistent pass rush at best, can’t get off the field when it counts, too many soft zones. Players still not grasping this extremely complex defense even when it’s all they’ve known.
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:36 am
Yeah I know it’s always some one else fault when it comes to Baker the bucs will never win with Baker . He got exposed in the Patriots game last year and it ain’t going to matter who the coach is. If this any other quarterback you guys will be blaming him for everything just like yall did Jamies. And I love bringing him up because it’s a prime example how yall make excuses for one player and Baker has actually been in much better situations than Jamies. Baker played in the weakest division in football every year he’s been here. Baker had a much better running game and system and yet it’s never his fault. Baker has a top 10 defense and he’s been bad the last 12 games.
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:41 am
I thought it was a quarterback driven lead 🤔 that’s what I was told by many of you on here ? And now it’s not because of the quarterback you guys like that’s why I’ve always said you guys don’t call it like you see it.
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:42 am
baker mod will be posting his 2023 stats shortly and argue baker doesnt need to play better he just needs to stay healthy and have a better defense lol
GO BUCS!!!!!
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:46 am
Just1Game pretty much sums it up! Dem are the facts!
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:47 am
I really struggle to understand how anyone seriously believes this team can still make the playoffs, even in this garbage division. The coaching is pathetic across the board and I have serious questions about Jason Licht. The only place they are going is to a high pick in the draft. I am hoping the owners can see this too but unfortunately they appear to be the root of the problem. Thank you for a wasted season you idiots. The whole organization should be ashamed of itself.
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:50 am
baker has a lot he needs to improve in spite of the negative environment. just hold onto the ball and stop it with the happy feet for a start.
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:50 am
Yes, we need a better Mayfield…but in order to have that we need a better Oline & WRs to get open.
October 23rd, 2026 at 8:57 am
jason lites record is pretty bad considering brady was here……it was a nice respite from the lost decade, now we have returned to regularly scheduled futility.
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:03 am
Sorry. I disagree. Licht stays for sure. He has provided good talent that is poorly coached and incorrectly used.
NO TOMLIN!!! Get us a young offensive coach PLEASE!!!
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:04 am
So i have this right, even in Mayfields “bad” year last yr – he was still 25/12, and overall has had 3 stellar yrs, and frankly could not have asked for a better follow up to Tom Brady considering the tough situation. And – after 3 games, you have pathetics losers calling for Jalon Daniels, who – doesnt have a quarter of the talent, but fickle small brained mongoloids with zero critical thinking skills are not willing to give Mayfield the benefit of the doubt that he has EARNED after…*checks notes* 3 GAMES with yet another new offensive coordinator. You people are crazy, bizarre, psycho. “mayfield nEeDs tO bE bEtTeR.” I dont even wanna hear that, I almost wish that Jalon Daniels would play the entire year just to give you clowns exactly what you asked for just to see you suffer.
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:07 am
It took Jamies just 3 wks to get benched, by the all – world Harbaugh, You cant turn the ball over
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:09 am
Josh McDaniels ..when a coaching change is done
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:13 am
Amen! The table is now set for Baker to rally the troops. No pressure on Mayfield, who has nothing to lose and everything to gain. JD couldn’t get it done, but showed promise. I’m not ready to throw dirt on this season yet, but a loss in Carolina will send me to the garage looking for a shovel. No excuses Baker, this is your chance to shock the world. Feed off the doubters and I sure hope Robinson was on the receiving end of some of that tough talk. If not, get in his grill and take charge. This fan thinks he’s the main culprit for a stale offense this year.
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:15 am
We need a good young accurate quarterback that gets rid of the ball quickly, and we need a new coaching staff that is firery and instilles discipline and accountability in this team. Problem solved.
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:20 am
We already know what baker is and he is not a winner he’s proven that already there is no hope with him as qb
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:27 am
#6, will always be a mediocre QB! Stop It! He couldn’t get better, even if he tried! Two turnovers this Sunday easy and with a Loss!!! Overpaid & Overhyped!!!!
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:36 am
Why are we still talking playoffs?! Whoever wins this trash division is gonna get steamrolled in the playoffs. We should be talking draft and new coaching hires.
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:47 am
The only flashes of effectiveness from ZRob’s offense has come when Jalon Daniels has been at QB; in the preseason and sporadically over the past few games.
So far, Baker + ZRob has equaled = total ineptitude.
We’ll see if that miraculously changes…
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:54 am
Need a better Wirfs. Need a better Barton. Need a better Brederson. Need a better Mauch. Need a better Otton. Need a better Egbuka. Can they be coached to be better? I’m not sure. Maybe it is time to sell them all. I’m tired of seeing Wirfs getting beaten. He played a pathetic game Sunday, along with most of the line. TE and RB blocking is also pathetic. Replacing JD with Baker won’t help if the line continues to suck.
October 23rd, 2026 at 9:58 am
Bucs only chance is for Baker to get hot , he is streaky but loves to be against the wall,, well the whole team is against the wall. Bucs win and we get another week , Bucs lose and Bowles is gone gone gone. Stiechen and Schwartz ,, Bucs can go from 4-13 to 13-4
October 23rd, 2026 at 10:00 am
Yes…. that is correct. They ALL have to play better and the Coaches have to Coach better.
October 23rd, 2026 at 10:22 am
Oneilbuc,
Go see a proctologist and an English teacher. Not sure what language you are using. You criticize Baker and most of us think you should have finished grade school.
October 23rd, 2026 at 10:49 am
Gipper. You mad because your daddy Baker been playing bad the last 12 games? Lol 😆 🤣 Baker is on his 4th team and he’s showing you why he’s on his 4th team. So don’t get mad because your daddy Baker suck . Lol 😆 😆

Jameis has been bad his entire career. Need I point out to that 2024 (with Coen) Baker looked every part the franchise QB. So he HAS the ability and it’s been demonstrated as much. Jameis, on the other hand, gets benched, let go or never starts every where he goes. While Baker has issues, comparing him to Jameis is a joke. Baker is a far better QB and accomplished more than Jameis ever has.

Re: “stathead whose calculations say Mayfield was the culprit in Mayfield’s sacks”
If there’s a stat-based argument there, the stat in question would be how long it takes for him to throw the ball. I like Baker, but he does tend to hold on to the ball longer than most.
October 23rd, 2026 at 11:21 am
Stormy. Baker got benched at 3 other teams as a starter and he had good running games at all of those teams including here. Baker was lucky to come to a franchise that celebrate 8-9 9-8 seasons. Baker is a backup quarterback that people make excuses for and the bucs was the only franchise that was willing to make him a starter. He really didn’t beat put Trask they had to gift him the starting job. Jamies would have put up way more points then Baker especially with a running game like Baker. Baker has shown he ain’t it since he got here. And to keep saying Cohen wouldn’t matter because the Patriots exposed him. Blitz up the middle take away his first read put your hands up because he can’t see over the line. And every since the Patriots game he’s been bad because teams been playing him the same way and that’s why he’s 2-10 the last 12 games.
October 23rd, 2026 at 11:33 am
Oneill
1) he did beat Trask. If he didn’t Trask would be starting somewhere, or at least 2nd string. He can’t even stick on a roster for any length of time. That says all you need to know about Trask.
2) Coen absolutely would matter. Coaching matters, as we’re seeing the stark difference between how Todd has completely mismanaged this team vs Coen resurrecting a dead in the water Jags team, not to mention now turning around Lawrence, who was well on his way to bust status. Lawrence should be thanking the football gods that Leftwich screwed himself out of that job. Lord knows that buffoon would have cemented his bust status.
3) Jameis would not and his turnover rate would make Baker look elite. Nowhere in Jameis’ history would you be able to point to where that was supported. Then again, coming from the guy who loudly proclaimed that Jameis was better than Brady, this take isn’t shocking.
October 23rd, 2026 at 11:34 am
You CAN’T launch the GM AND the HC in the same off-season, so get that out of your heads. By the time you interview and then HIRE the new GM, all the available HC’s are gone.
How bad IS our team? The last time we lost by more than one score was 13 games ago, that nightmare the Rams. Close losses usually hinge on coaching decisions
October 23rd, 2026 at 11:37 am
“Jameis has been bad his entire career. Need I point out to that 2024 (with Coen) Baker looked every part the franchise QB. So he HAS the ability and it’s been demonstrated as much.”
Outlier year, anybody expecting that same bolt of lightening from 2024 to strike again is not rooted in reality. Also, giving Mayfield all the credit for that season as if he weren’t the beneficiary of a revitalized rushing attack that also helped have his best season in Cleveland before 2024 ever even happened.
2018 to 2022, 64 turnovers in 5 seasons.
2023 to right now, 50 turnovers in 3 seasons & 3 games as a Buc.
The longest stretch Mayfield has gone having clean games is 4 and that happened 6 years ago. Before and since he’s never gone more than 3 games without a turnover. Even right now, he’s 1 fumble or INT away before his next TD from having twice as many giveaways as TDs generated.
Even 2023 he was subpar, leading an offense that had 10 games scoring 20 or less points(sound familiar?) and we only won 3 games. Not because the offense flashed, but because our defense allowed 23, 6 & 0 points in our only wins.
NFL history is littered with 1-hit wonder years at the QB position. ’07 Derek Anderson, ’95 Scott Mitchell, ’10 Josh Freeman, or ’12 RG3. Ya’ll keep talking like that was Baker resetting his floor when in reality 2024 was Mayfield bumping his head on his personal ceiling. Been coming back down to reality since.
October 23rd, 2026 at 11:48 am
“How bad IS our team? The last time we lost by more than one score was 13 games ago, that nightmare the Rams. Close losses usually hinge on coaching decisions”
24 TDs(23 really) to 20 turnovers in the 13 games played since and including that Rams game. 16 of those on are Rudy, which is 4 games short of a full seasons’ worth of games. In that span our front office & owners thought “let’s pay more for that” lol
Explain to me like you would a toddler what coaches can do to mitigate the terrible ball security. Which OC do you blame for that, because we’ve had 2 in that span
October 23rd, 2026 at 11:49 am
Signing Mayfield to this ridiculous extension was the worst possible move, and coupled with all his other dumb moves, should get Gas Licht relieved of his duties.
October 23rd, 2026 at 12:21 pm
Baker’s “outlier” year also supports the “coaching matters” point I was trying to make. I truly believe Baker can be a decent starter – with the right coaching. Do I believe he was worth that contract? Nope. But they’re stuck with it. So the absolute best outcome anyone should be rooting for is a return to that 2024 form.
Those QBs that are one year wonders also support it – they typically cash in elsewhere and the system and team are vastly different and it rarely works. RG3 is also a “coaching matters” example in that Shanahan’s idiotic decision making ruined that guy’s career.
October 23rd, 2026 at 12:38 pm
if tom thumb can’t even make a bowl of ramen, let his sit one more week…and go with whalen jalon in carolina
October 23rd, 2026 at 12:59 pm
Jalon has played much better than Baker has to this point. He never turned the ball over three times in one game and, he won a game. Something Baker has failed to do this season. We should continue playing Jalon and trade Baker and his big contract. If McCarthy bombs in NY, that will be a nice destination for Baker. They could still win their division and there are still some idiots out there who still think Baker is good.
October 23rd, 2026 at 1:16 pm
“Baker’s “outlier” year also supports the “coaching matters” point I was trying to make”
At this point that point is just a blanket excuse to absolve Mayfield of his bad play.
Coaching doesn’t make him drop his eyes too fast, that’s his tendency as a player.
Coaching doesn’t force him to hold the ball too long also his tendency as a player.
Coaching doesn’t make him throw into double & triple coverage.
Coaching has to protect this team from his lack of capabilities from the pocket though and with a sound running game that’s exactly what Liam Coen did.
Expecting 2024 results without Rachaad White or Mike Evans no longer in the picture is kind of pointless. Those 2 alone accounted for just under a third of Bakers completions, over 1,300 passing yards and 17 of his passing TDs.
Coaching isn’t going to get that back and I don’t think Baker is the type of QB that raises the level of play around him based of his style/way of playing.
October 23rd, 2026 at 1:17 pm
Oneilbuc
you make even less sense than usual
why should any baker fan be angry? He’s already paid and going nowhere. worth it just to hear you Bucs haters whining and not being able to do anything about it.
October 23rd, 2026 at 1:41 pm
“why should any baker fan be angry? He’s already paid and going nowhere”
That’s exactly where this team is going along with Baker, nowhere.
3 TDs & 5 turnovers in 3 games, offense been stuck in neutral or reverse all season with the exception of our only win while Baker was in street clothes but you thought you ate with this lol
October 23rd, 2026 at 1:54 pm
Mike. I don’t whine about nothing I just call like I see it regardless of the player unlike you. Baker got 2 more years and that includes this year because in 2028 Baker will be gone because I believe the bucs will draft a quarterback. To think or to believe that Baker is a franchise quarterback tells me you hope the bucs don’t ever win or get to a superbowl or have home field advantage because as long as he’s the quarterback the stadium will be a home field advantage for any team we’re playing and we will never going to see a superbowl or a conference championship. Lol 😆 🤣 you must really hate the bucs to want Baker as the franchise quarterback lol 😆.
October 23rd, 2026 at 4:59 pm
Can anybody translate what Oneilbuc is saying? I gather he doesn’t like Mayfield. If he can be critical of Baker, are we allowed to critique his rambling almost indecipherable comments?
It works both ways, Oneilbuc. You lose all credibility because of your babbling.
October 23rd, 2026 at 5:41 pm
Playoffs?!?
If you are still talking playoffs, and blaming Mayfield for this offense,
Then discussing won’t accomplish anything.
In Dallas, Jaylon Daniels showed the World why he wasn’t drafted, and will never be a good NFL QB.
He does not have the Arm Strength to make the sideline throws.
31 teams saw it. Knew. Passed on a hard working Kid, in an absolutely Quarterback starved league.
But not the Bucs. They didn’t see it. Not in Film. Not the scouts. Not in workouts. Not in preseason.
Hel, I’m still not sure they see it!
But then, This team( Jason Licht) wasted a SECOND ROUND PICK on noodle armed Kyle Trask!
You could watch his first preseason games. Watch the ball s l o w l y drift to the sidelines,
And any intelligent fan knew we just wasted a high, high draft pick on a kid who will never play in the NFl.
I called it. So did a couple other posters.
And every NFL, when asked about him.
Well, we signed another great kid with a lame arm.
Sorta like signing a 5’10”, 280lb kid to play a 3-4 defensive end.
Thats how you end up with the worst record in the NFC
October 23rd, 2026 at 6:16 pm
Gipper. Again go back to Cleveland or Oklahoma don’t no body hate Baker if he don’t play good and I say he played bad that’s not hate it’s call facts. Baker will get his credit when he play good. And he will get criticize when plays bad that’s just the way it is he’s been bad for 11 games straight. So we have to act like he’s been playing good even when plays bad right? This is the thing about you Baker fan boys it’s a quarterback driven league that’s what I was told. So call it hate all you want but the facts is my bucs is 2-10 the last 12 games with Baker. And we are 0-3 this year with a good defense it’s on him .
