“You Got No Corners”

September 11th, 2026

Dissed.

The Gruden brothers have crafted a new brand of Xs and Os football comedy shot right here in the Tampa Bay area.

The Gruden Family Football Show has launched at Barstool Sports. Bucs Super Bowl coach Jon Gruden and his brother Jay Gruden, a former Bucs assistant coach and NFL head coach, will be previewing NFL games, among many other things.

Joe has watched Jay Gruden on his former podcast and he’s not a serial I-love-everybody analyst like his brother, Chucky. And that was on display in their inaugural Week 1 preview show.

Chucky, of course, is all over Tampa Bay to win on Sunday in Cincinnati.

Chucky says he doesn’t think Bengals QB Joe Burrow will have time to throw because of the Bucs’ new-look, four-man pass rush. Like Joe, Chucky is very high on what a healthy Calijah Kancey will deliver.

Jay Gruden countered by stressing the versatility of the Bengals offense, detailed their route options if the Bucs rush heats up, and how Ja’Marr Chase’s yards-after-catch ability is a nightmare for the Bucs corners.

Chucky then went on to hype up the Bucs pass rush again when Jay Gruden interjected, “You got no corners!” Chucky didn’t reply and simply picked the Bucs to win. Jay Gruden later took the Bengals.

Well until proven other wise, hard to disagree with that statement. DB’s Playing 10 yards off when 5 is needed for a 1st down, is a recipe for 500 football to continue. Hey Todd where is the Press coverage you were known for before you showed up with BA in 2019??
Will 2026 be different? If it is the same, and no consistent pass rush, then 9-8 0r 8-9 is coming again.
    Please be different Todd.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  2. DungyDance Says:

Why would Jay say rhe Bucs have no corners? Bain and Ya Ya will be in coverage half the day. There you go.

  3. Lessismore Says:

Maybe our CB’s should channel their inner Jobe. In his post game interview (following his game saving interception in the end zone)….he was asked what he was thinking during that play and he said
“BALL BALL BALL… SEE BALL GET BALL”

One of the best post game quotes I’ve heard in quite some time.

  4. chark Says:

We will lose this game. Bengals arent going to lose openers forever. Corners get overwhelmed by higgins and chase. Bengals 31- Bucs 20

  5. Erick H Says:

When is the next Ira Kaufman podcast dropping?

  6. PSL Bob Says:

I have to agree with Jay. Even though our pass rush may be greatly improved. and I emphasize may be, our CBs are vulnerable as hell. And, that’s not something that elicits optimism when facing Ja’Marr Chase and T. Higgins.

  7. Gipper Says:

McCollum better come out of his boredom and accelerate his new program of “learning” his position.

  8. 50yearbucfan Says:

Just look at that picture of bored confused ZM this dude shouldn’t be in the NFL and it’s a joke we’re paying him millions to be hurt or get burnt every play! Pffft oh well here’s looking to 2027 go bucs!

  9. ChrisBuc2327 Says:

Chark isn’t a real Buc fan get up outta here with that
Bucs are taking the Dub and not only does cincy have to worry about our pass rush but their defense can’t stop Our offense either .

  10. Fanofdabucs Says:

Gotta love the hyperbolic idiot Buc fans and Jay Arena League Gruden.

Parrish is a very solid CB. Scott is an upgrade in the secondary. Zyon has the ability to be good. Morrison is super talented and if he can stay healthy will surprise folks this year. SMB is a very solid vet addition and Garnes showed a lot in training camp and preseason games.

Can’t wait for Sunday. I think this secondary will come up with a few big plays and silence the haters.

  11. ocala Says:

I am hopeful that Bowles will be a lot more vanilla with the significant upgrades in the front 7. With Reddick and Braswell rushing the passer last year I don’t blame our corners for playing off. They knew there was almost no chance the Bucs line was going to get to the QB.

  12. magoobee Says:

Has Jay commented on the Baker contract? I want to know how paying Baker $20m more a year makes the team better.

  13. Jmarkbuc Says:

Interesting that Philly cut Zyon’s twin brother.

  14. BakerFan Says:

Just maybe Bucs can stop them once maybe twice, then it is up to them to play catch up and try to stop the Bucs offense, that is if Todd does not order a stand down.

  15. Marine Buc Says:

Multiple things can be true at once…

True – the Bucs have one of the worst CB units in the NFL.

True – the Bengals have one of the best QBs (when healthy) and WR duo in the NFL.

False – “the Bucs have no CBs”

True – the Bucs have CBs – they just aren’t that good.

  16. Oxycondomns Says:

in other news falcons starting 3rd string qb in season opener is comical. raheem the dream did a number on the falcons similar to drafting freeman

  17. HC Grover Says:

They might be ok at game time. They are pro players. A fine line.

  18. Fanofdabucs Says:

Marine is right, multiple things can true at once:

    1) You can claim the Bucs will suck and lose 10+ games

    2) You can then be unwilling to back that up with a wager

  19. Tampa2ATL Says:

    It’s gonna be a shootout!

  20. Fanofdabucs Says:

Ok quick, without looking it up, can someone name the Bengals starting CBs?

  21. Anyhony Says:

Can’t wait for Sunday. I think this secondary will come up with a few big plays and silence the haters.

These haters can’t be silenced, it’s their religion!!! They’ve got a VIP section at the “Player Haters Ball”

  22. 813bucboi Says:

I understand where Jay is coming from….Pass rush will “protect” the CBs IF the pass rush shows up

    GO BUCS!!!!

  23. Beeej Says:

Half the people complaining in this thread wanted us to mortgage the future for a guy who had the same production last night as any night with Chris Braswell

  24. Anyhony Says:

    Beeej with the two-point conversion!!!

  25. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Fan

    Hey bud.

Team predictions are based on a sliding scale…

As I have said many times – the Bucs had 9 games last season that were won/lost by 3 points.

The Bucs had a 6-3 record in games settled by 3 points or less.

I believe it will be a very similar type of season in 2026.

The Bucs could be 5-12 or the Bucs could be 11-6.

Who knows what the future holds?

I’m not a gypsy and I have no crystal ball my friend.

All I have to say is….

    JUST WIN BABY!

    LFG!!!!

  26. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Fan

And BTW – Vegas has the Bucs @ 8.5 wins.

So don’t be haytin the playa – you needs to be haytin da game…

  27. Anon Says:

You play 15 yards off: they go 8-12 yards per play for an easy score.

You play closer to the line: Parrish is at a foot height disadvantage, McCollum makes decisions I can’t explain, and it’s easy 40+ yard explosives.

Either way the pass rush will only matter if Burrow continues to hold onto the ball for absolutely no reason like he’s done most of his career.

  28. Fire The Cannons & Fire Todd Says:

When every season the pass defense is suffering from “mis communications” where WR’s are WIDE open you can’t argue with the analysis

The corners change, the nickel corner changes every year but this scheme sucks at defending the pass

    The numbers do not lie

    2025
    Passing TD’s Allowed 30
Pass Yards Per Game Ranked 27th

    2024
    Passing TD’s Allowed 27
Pass Yards Per Game Ranked 26th

    2023
    Passing TD’s Allowed 23
Pass Yards Per Game Ranked 29th

    2022
    Passing TD’s Allowed 29
Pass Yards Per Game Ranked 9th

    2021
    Passing TD’s Allowed 26
Pass Yards Per Game Ranked 21st

    2020
    Passing TD’s Allowed 29
Pass Yards Per Game Ranked 21st

    2019
    Passing TD’s Allowed 30
Pass Yards Per Game Ranked 30th

  29. Steve V Says:

Its not gonna matter unless they get 0 pass rush

  30. Newbie Says:

    #truth

  31. MadMax Says:

Def hitting CB and O line first two picks next draft….

  32. ElioT Says:

Just put Vea in at single-high safety and they’ll be fine.

  33. Stanglassman Says:

If Parish plays as well as we expect and we get the ‘24 version of Zyon they’ll be fine. The keys are the improved pass rush and those two staying healthy.

  34. Simple T Says:

You just posted the same comment a few articles earlier listing our pass yards allowed stats for 7 years. You forgot to list the NFC South titles and a SUPERBOWL win during that same stretch.

  35. HC Grover Says:

    Here comes Bozo

  36. HC Grover Says:

Corner will not be the problem it will be Bowles.

  37. Fire The Cannons & Fire Todd Says:

I’ll keep posting it until the pass defense becomes a competent unit.

NFC South Division Titles are not the flex you think…

Super Bowl was awesome, i have my shirt on right now. But it was 6 years ago and not many players remain from that squad. Keep in mind Todd’s Defense usually only shows out against severely injured teams (like in the Super Bowl) or against lesser coaching staffs

  38. Dubcity6 Says:

Gee, I’ve only been saying this for 2 years now *rolls eyes*

  39. Simple T Says:

What was our pass yards allowed during the SB year ? Hmmmm, maybe pass yards allowed isn’t the diss you think.

You’d probably understand what I’m saying if you understood football better. But obviously you’re not much of a thinker and prefer to take one Joe’s repeated harping on that one stat as if success/failure depends on it. It doesn’t. Pass yards allowed does NOT correlate to W/L %.

  40. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

Are the Bucs CB’s good? No, although Parrish showed some promise last year. Is Bowles defensive scheme so bad that CB’s have feigned injuries the last few years? I think so. If the Bengals are lighting up the Bucs D, will Z and Band-Aid Benny leave the game? I think so.

  41. Bucnjim Says:

Playing off the ball is a combination of lack of talent & a philosophy of not giving up the big play. Bowles for his entire career has been a bend but don’t break defense concentrating on stopping the run. The problem is that they were also able to stop the short passing game (when they had the talent). If anyone remembers the REDSKINS playoff game, it was apparent we could no longer stop the screens & short passes. This was the beginning of the rebuild, but the Bucs could only address one or two positions at a time. I believe with a little luck this organization is extremely close to being one of the top NFL teams. Might need one more year to draft corners.

  42. Fanofdabucs Says:

    Marine..

I’m well aware of the under/over line at 8.5

You said the Bucs would lose 10 games.

Guess you’re singing a different tune now. Never too late to jump on the bandwagon.

  43. Obvious One Says:

I for one am REAL TIRED OF LOSING. And we DON’T KNOW what we have in the player department yet.

Well see if the rookies and second year guys can carry that water. The “bored guy” looked pretty good in limited action. Apparently HE’S our best out there. Parrish? Does he even Have an established position he plays out of? I’d be nice if he did so that he could make the most out of his chances. And besides those couple of guys…. and then who else? O yeah, a once apon a time pro bowler we haven’t seen make an impact in Years now.

The “REALITY IS” that we’re on a wing and a pray when it comes to the defense.

However.. NO MATTER WHAT! I’m rooting for our players 100% and believe that “somehow we might” surprise even ourselves. And I Believe that Our Guys WILL turn some heads around this league. But can we sustain?

With that said… I DO have a need to hold myself back from vomiting when it comes to the thought of a guy whom CAN NOT lead the men. bowles just doesn’t have “IT” in that department much less SO MANY OTHER and CRUCIAL areas of need to be a leader. And THAT’S GOING TO BE our Real “ACHILLES HEEL”ONCE AGAIN THIS YEAR.. We have Plenty of talent but we are an utterless ship without a true leader. THAT hasn’t changed and THOSE DECISION MAKING SKILLS ABSOLUTELY MATTER!

It MATTERS in…You know… in the Real World”! Where we’re going up against some of the BEST leaders of men on the planet. The Buccaneers don’t have that general on our side. And until that Mistake gets remedied, we’ll Always be at a disadvantage NO MATTER Who we play.

In the end May We WIN! May We CRUSH ALL OPPONENTS THAT ARE FOOLISH ENOUGH TO WALK OUT ON THAT FIELD!

    GO BUCKS!

  44. Lakeland Says:

When did Bucs fans start caring about stats?
In 2015, we were 10th in defense, 5th in offense
And they fired the Head Coach
Because his team won 6 games

Only fools concern themselves with stats
At the end of the day…..only the win counts

  45. Kenton Smith Says:

Lakeland. That didn’t compute when I read it. In 2015 we were 20th in offense in points per game. In 2015 we were 26th in defense in points allowed. We scored about 21 a game and allowed about 26 a game.

That explains coach being fired and the 6-10 record.

I agree with you that the only stat that matters is wins and losses. Especially when you are a head coach or a QB.

  46. Lakeland Says:

    Kenton Smith

They were 10th in Total Defense
    5th in Total Offense

    But they couldn’t score points
And they gave up a lot of points
It were the mental mistakes mostly
Jameis turnovers, poor special teams, and other factors

  47. 50 year True fan Says:

Last year was last year! At least get through one game before you trash the whole team. This is a new team and a new season about to start. If you got no faith, then why even watch the games? I know no one including my self thought they could win it all in 2020, but they took it all the way! You got to have Hope! GO BUCS!

  48. Lakeland Says:

They had 143 penalties, tied for most in the league
    They had 1,195 penalty yards
They had a -5 turnover ratio
The defense was getting turnovers, Jameis and the offense was giving it right back
Their special teams were one on the weakest in the NFL

    But, other than that,
They were 10th in Total Defense
    5th in Total Offense

  49. adam from ny Says:

so if zyon gets bored, is it not okay…?

    🙂

  50. Rod Munch Says:

    No corners?

How would you know when they’re told to stand around flat footed in a super soft zone and not do anything until the ball is in the air.

Let the guys play man, or at least some tight zone, and then we’ll have an idea of their talent level. But to claim the team has no corners, because they’re told by design to let guys run right past them, it’s just some low IQ nonsense, typical of the dopes that post in comment sections.
