Who Texted Adam Schefter?

As Joe has noted several times, ESPN super insider Adam Schefter is from the same hometown as Buccaneers assistant general manager Mike Greenberg.
Greenberg was even on Schefter’s acclaimed podcast as a guest before he became assistant GM.
Schefter also has a strong relationships with other Bucs types, which is why Schefter breaks all kinds of Bucs news.
So Joe was intrigued when Schefter felt compelled to share a text he got after the Browns upset of the Bucs. This came during a live ESPN broadcast.
“They have spent a lot of money; they’re 0-2,” Schefter said of Tampa Bay. “And there was somebody that texted me [Sunday night], ‘These are the kinds of games that get people fired.’ That when you’re making decisions later at the end of the year, you look back at a game like this, and you think back to a home loss in your home-opener to the Cleveland Browns … and that’s something that people remember later on in the year.”
Joe would love to know who texted Schefter and why were firings on Schefter’s mind a day later. He’s not typically a hot-seat-take guy before Week 3.
Lots of pressure coming on the Bucs to win Sunday. A victory against the undefeated Vikings would be so much fun.

It’s a lost season, Bowles should have been fired last year. I canceled my season tickets the day the news came out that Bowles was being retained. I’m not setting foot in the stadium or give the Glazers a cent of my money until Bowles is gone.

The issue at hand is the Bucs are reactionary at this stage. They should take a page from their own book when they won the superbowl last. They were proactive in getting the coaches and players they needed for success. Who’s the outlier in the decision process of relinquishing ReTodds duties? I hear fire the cannons and fire Bowles but why can’t they fire Bowles out of the cannon for good??

Did anyone else sense that Bowles was somewhat off at his last press conference?
I am not talking emotionally; I am talking about being disconnected, as if his acuity was not all there. There is something missing from Bowles — almost a blankness in his eyes.

This is an organization that’s run by a family

On a different note, I just listened to Ronde Barbers podcast. He said that Bowles defensive scheme requires above average intelligence…explaining that there is ALOT going on and it’s very confusing. You HAVE to have the right players in order for his defense to work. Which is why we see so much confusion on the part of the def players like Anzalone. And, he said you can’t “dumb” it down. Nor can you change the scheme. It is what it is. But guys are making mistakes not knowing there assignment based on the def play call. It was something I assumed…but hearing Ronde explain it was really interesting. He also said Baker is a very good football player and will be fine. He thinks Anzalone will be fine once all the pieces start to click. He doesn’t know what’s wrong with Vea. Bain should be ok but he did say he was hurt and is not as explosive as he was in pre-season.

Bowles is only 12-48 in career against teams that end season with winning record. 1-7 after bye week. Bowles been hiding in arguably worst division in NFL. I wish we fired Bowles after his cover zero blitz in the 2021 Rams playoff game.

As an avid Buc fan. This has been such a slow agonizing torture to have Bowles as the head coach. It has been obvious for several years he is not a good NFL head coach, but ownership and/or management still have not seen it.

Bowles will be the 1st HC fired in season by the Glazers. Stack a couple more losses and it’s coming.
Of course most of us were right and it’s years too late. Canales or Coen would have this team 2-0, no doubt in my mind.

Going a tad overboard with the speculation? There’s no indication in anything that Schefter wrote that text came from ANYONE associated with the Bucs. He was simply using it to make a point that games like that get people fired.
His point is well taken, but can’t see any need to try to tie it to Greenberg or anyone else associated with the Bucs.

I honestly think Baker would snap out of it and play better if the media would spend 2% of it’s time bashing Bowles, on bashing Baker.
I could not care less about Bowles, fire him today for all I care – it changes nothing if Baker is still out there missing wide open receivers all over the field and turning the ball over.
I mean we get a whole article bashing Hurst for not making a circus catch on a heavily contested throw in the wet – but still nothing about Baker missing a wide open e2 to win the game on 4th down. Baker wasn’t under pressure, it was an easy pass, and he missed it – and that’s not mentioned, but Hurst – in his 2nd game – is a bum because he’s not Mike Evans? It’s complete nonsense.
Call out Baker for playing like crap. Call him out for spending the entire summer whining about being ‘disrespected’ then singlehandedly loses both games to start the season – or perhaps point out he’s singlehandedly cost the Bucs 6 of the last 7 games, and how he’s 3-10 over his last 13 games and has played like garbage that entire time.
The kid gloves treatment for Baker by the media is obscene at this point.

I’m actually with Rod Munch here. I thought the Baker extension was a mistake. See how 2026 goes and retain the ability to clean house. Baker is the only common denominator in this poor run stretching back to the first Saints game last year where the offense was anemic. Baker has a crazy high ceiling but his floor is too low, and clearly this team of under performers is following his lead.

Glazers are great owners. They made a mistake keeping Bowles.
They will fire him after week 17. Robinson and Licht too.
But they aren’t gonna do anything knee jerk, like firing A coach mid season.
Nothing to be gained. This season is lost.
The long game. Better to keep Bowles. Then we’ll have some high draft picks for the New Coach and GM.
