Todd Bowles Make Tough But Easy Call To Move Practice Indoors

August 3rd, 2026

Including today, the Bucs have practiced indoors for the past two sessions, and their next practice has long been scheduled for indoors tomorrow night.

For those wondering, Tampa Bay plays home games outdoors — and will on opening day in Cincinnati.

This is not ideal. Not only is there much less room inside, the elements help the team get in proper football shape.

Todd Bowles did not want to move practice inside today, as it began outdoors in the rain. But Bowles said after practice he was left with no choice because the rain was “sideways” and that’s not a setup for a good, smart practice. (See the JoeBucsFan photo above and below.)

The Bucs were in pads for the first time. Joe can’t call it a great practice with a lot of fire. Lots of guys standing around, partly because one field is a bad fit for 90 dudes. Notes coming on practice later today.

hard to evaluate players in those conditions

I am sure there will be guys that will blame Bowels and Baker for the bad weather

  3. Allen Lofton Says:

What choice did he have, with rain comes lightning. Better to play indoors then risk being hit by lightning.

The elements help them get in football shape? What nonsense. Over training in the heat causes more injuries. Just ask the players hamstrings. Practicing on a wet rainy field can also lead to injuries. Bucs would be better off holding most of their practices indoors till October.

I agree with Hodad! The heat drains the body. Que the hamstring injuries and the mid season slump. Some is ok. Too much and your drained. If it’s a challenge for this staff to manage the clock(simple math) how are they expected to manage the players health. S m h. Go Bucs..

    Tough but easy?

    GO BUCS!!!!

I was in the stands (twice!) last year in “sideways” rain. That alone isn’t a good reason to move indoors but, as incredibly funny Florida-man comic OMGItsWicks, puts it: Mother Nature flips the script sometimes. Once that lightning starts flashing, it’s time to go inside.

I remember back in my day when you played football in the rain – heck you might even get your jersey dirty.

It’s tough but it is also easy. I think the word you are searching for is “Smart”. But hey you Joes do so much, we can let this slide.
Thanks I am grateful for your coverage.
