The slow start of the 2026 season continues for second-year cornerback Benjamin Morrison.
Day 4 of training camp kicked off today with Morrison only working in drills and not in what’s called “team periods.” Morrison has been nursing a hamstring issue for several weeks.
Today after practice, Todd Bowles said he hopes Morrison will get full-team work this week and said Morrison has been moving better.
Delicate situation for the Bucs. They need to be careful with Morrison, last year’s second-round draft pick, but they also need to see if he can play. He’s the kind of guy who needs to be full-go against the Jets next week in joint practices in New Jersey. And the Bucs need to see Morrison, 22, get through a preseason game; the first is Aug. 14 in New Jersey.
At some point, the Bucs will need to decide if they have enough depth to win a Super Bowl. Yeah, Super Bowl. If that’s not the goal, then that’s a problem.
Morrison played in 10 games last season.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then this is a Jason Licht second round bust. I’ll be pulling for Morrison to be a good player. We need the secondary help.

Pepe Williams sounds like he’s been playing pretty well in camp so far, could play himself into taking some of Morrisons’ snaps.

Some dudes just get injured way more easily than others, and some guys rarely ever get injured. Morrison, Kancey and Dean, are the former, while DBrooks, Ronde, and Lavonte are in the latter.

And this is not a surprise. He had injury history going into the draft, I even remember Joe doing a whole article about him before the draft, regarding that. But of course he is a family friend of Bowles. Another great gift by our wizard of a DC. What a friggin joke!

There is some good players on the team like Wirfs, Winfield, Yaya, Smith, Vita, But there is a lot of unknowns for the starting 22. I like drafting to get younger and for them to grow into their roles but not enough of them do that. They are White, JTS, Braswell, Trask ect. I understand that you can’t hit on all the picks but the FA market here has been weak with guys you cross your fingers for. Guys like Reddick and Randy Gregory for example. It makes adding the depth for a Super Bowl a struggle when the starters aren’t capable. Then you factor in the capable ones we lost. Evans, LVD, Dean and so fourth. Bucs to me are in a area of building a window frame before a Super Bowl window opens again a few years down the road.

Yes. I would love to see Morrison get on the field and live up to his potential. However, unfortunately it appears he can’t stay healthy even for a couple of weeks. The Bucs sure gambled on him. I still scratch my head . They should have picked up a legitimate cb and let Morrison develop without the pressure of getting on the field. This like other decisions not well thought out. Has Morrison ever given an indication that he could stay healthy even for a month?.

I see enough vets out there to take a gamble on still. Tredavious White (who has his own injury history) played the most games he has in some time for the Bills last year is still available and he’s better than anything we have on the outside. I’m just baffled we haven’t added a older vet who isn’t some 3rd stringer from a bottom dweller team.

They’re finally doing what we asked and not rushing those soft tissue injuries back, so they don’t get aggravated again. Fans are still complaining, but he knows the system. If he gets a few weeks of preseason games and practices, he’ll be good to go. The key is to let him heal completely.
I don’t see him as injury-prone. He had a genetic hip disorder that he had surgery for in college, and the Bucs drafted him knowing he wouldn’t be at 100% last year. They got a first-round talent in the second round. Let’s see what kind of player he can be this season before writing him off. I think too many fans have already given up on him.

Better pick up a few veteran CB’s during cut downs because this looks like a repeat of last year in the secondary. Why Jason drafted this guy when he was recovering from hip surgery is beyond me.

“Nursing a hamstring issue for several weeks”? Several years maybe. He may never be 100%. He may have been born with a body that is just not made for football. He’s only 22, so perhaps he should spend a year on the taxi squad to see if his body can totally recover and set a firm foundation. Talking about issues with tissues is a little vague. I hope someone has a more specific and scientific grasp of the biology along with a clearer prognosis based on previous evidence.

Morrison was picked because of cronyism. Not talent.
He was a huge risk in the 2nd round. The 2ns round should be for guaranteed starters.
