“Nacho” Sings Praises Of David Walker

“Nacho” reacts when asked about Bucs OLB David Walker.
You should have been there.
There’s one word to describe Bucs defensive tackle Rakeem Nuñez-Roches, the man his teammates affectionately refer to as “Nacho.”
Back with the Bucs after spending three years with the Giants, Nacho, who won a ring as Vita Vea’s backup in 2020, is all about “personality.” Nacho has a big one. He’s always smiling, always joking. But when he’s on the field, it’s all ball.
Yesterday when asked for his take on Bucs outside linebacker David Walker, Nacho could hardly contain himself.
“D. Walker is something serious,” Nacho said. “I feel like he has a 95 win percent ratio right now.
“Every time he’s gone [off], he’s in the back[field]. Literally. “I don’t care [first-team, second-team, third-team offense]. Whoever you put in front of him [will get owned].
“He’s definitely vicious.”
Well, Nacho really isn’t wrong. Walker (and others, like Chris Braswell) have lived in the Bucs’ backfield so much during training camp, Joe is beginning to wonder about the Bucs’ pass blocking.
It’s one thing if Rueben Bain or Calijah Kancey is blowing people up, or blowing past people. But when Braswell is getting in the backfield, it makes Joe scratch his head. (Braswell is mostly facing the second-team offense.)
If Walker is half as good as what he shows in training camp, or if he’s half as good as Nacho believes he is, then the Bucs have an absolute jewel.
The hype is beginning to make Joe suspicious.

Is the puffery of Walker just to take some pressure off of Bain? These “greatness” labels are meaningless in November. Love to hear it, can’t wait to actually see it

Licht needs to go out and find better backup tackles, although I think Braswell is going up against the third-team tackles.

AQM isn’t making any plays. I was really hoping this guy could play. He was absent from voluntary workouts and now he’s not showing up in the highlights. Could he be the biggest bust this season?

I feel like we always roll into a camp with potential, and it simply doesn’t show up on the field. We thought Riddick at $1M a game would complement Yaya who has yet to see the numbers he gained as a rookie in a part-time role. Kancey gets bit early with injuries. This dude Walker, our sleeper gets injured in OTAs. Braswell in Year 3 was going shock all of us. 5th round Dennis was going to show us he was a starter… none of this happened.
I think Licht has been riding the success of the Brady/Super Bowl run era for a few years, and yeah, stars aligned and he kind of got lucky. THIS year will say a lot to me about the GM he is, and what category he ends up with. Evans, David, and Dean are gone. We moved on from high draft picks that didn’t amount to a whole lot in JTS (yes, he was gone before last season) and Hall. We added a handful of free agents at key areas, and our draft looked really solid filling some key defensive holes. I think we also landed one of the better OC prospects. We stay healthy and thrive this season, I will change my view on sure on Licht.

No need for head scratching. If Braswell is in the backfield against the second-team offense, it’s not Braswell that’s good. It’s the second-team offense that’s bad.

Guess we’re starting to figure out why Coach Foote was so happy about drafting Walker a little over a year ago. Super Bowl talk aside, former player now coach being geek’d about drafting a guy who played at a lower level of competition and absolutely dominated while he was there seems justified so far. Maybe a little late, but now he’s playing NFL talent of varying of levels talent and he’s doing good work.

Too bad this man is already 26 years old and hasn’t played a regular season NFL snap. Even if he turns out to be good, he may only have 4-5 years of prime left

It’s good to hear, he was well hyped and Bucs had high expectations and anticipation to seeing what he would do in game last season and then highly disappointed when he got knock out for the season. But I hope my ears or I should say eyes did not deceive me sounds like a Chris Brasswell breakout is in the works, hhmmm.

It’s a new blocking scheme that doesn’t seem to have enough cohesion to work on the practice field yet – and the Bucs defense is feasting on them. Call me crazy but I’m a lot more concerned about that than buying what everyone is selling about the constant jailbreaks happening by the pass rush.
But I take heart in knowing our OC is the same guy who led the Falcons with all their skill position weapons to a 24th ranking in points scored last year. What could possibly go wrong when real bullets start flying?

If everyone is looking like a star … yeah, it’s making me also wonder more about the line and what is going on.
Keep in mind, this is yet another new OC, with different calls, etc – and offensive lines generally take a while to gel. I’d have to go back and look at camp reports from 2024 to see if the defense was also manhandling the offensive line early in Coen’s reign as he installed a new offense. I know early on with Coen the dummies in the comments were calling Cody a bust, saying he kept getting beat, yet when you watched the tape and knew what you were watching – what you saw the Bucs ran a very complex blocking scheme with lots of movement, and it was actually Barton failing to get to his spots – and Cody, who was expecting help, wasn’t getting it, so it looked like guys just ran past Cody. Barton, who was a rookie playing a new position, got up to speed by around week 4 or so, and we stopped seeing those blown assignments – but I wonder if anything like that is happening.
Anywho, what would be great is if Walker was as good as he looked at the Senior Bowl pratices, where he made a name for himself and showed he could push around more than DII players. And we can hope that Braswell, who was always a project player, just had things click for him and he’s leveled up.

Less: as far as Brasswell goes you’re just “hoping”. I know what I saw with my own 2 eyes. Soft and lazy. It’s disrespectful to Shaq to mention his name in a sentence with Brasswell. And Walker hasn’t even played in a preseason game yet so it’s just waaaayyyy too much hype until he actually shows something on tape.
