Morning Cup Of Joe

August 12th, 2026

Welcome to your Morning Cup of Joe, an eye-opener to help Joe’s readers ease into their busy workday with a few football links, wacky news and a pleasant distraction.

Distraction of the Day

So why did the New England Russinis have to replace their new turf field, with another new turf field. Remember: Creepy Bob Kraft had to install grass in is crib to make sure the baby foreign kickball players could be safe and avoid turf but grass isn’t good enough for his own players. [PFT]

History suggests the Giants and slimy Saints have found their franchise quarterbacks. Who wrote this history, Stephen King? [CBS]

Former Cardinals GM Steve Keim, who was a business associate of “a dead scam artist,” claims he too was a victim. Also, Keim has lawyered up. [TMZ]

Disconnected mogul/Bills owner Terry Pegula purposely wanted a small scoreboard in his brand new $2.2 billion stadium because he wanted the unwashed to pay attention to the field and not the scoreboard. Dude, the scoreboard is for replays! Besides, how much real estate of that scoreboard is used up by ads, 50 percent? Promise you Pegula wants fans to pay attention to those. But, what the hell, he got the peasants to pay for his stadium. If they don’t like it, tough shiite, go outside and take a nose dive onto a table. Pretty sure Pegula has a big-screen TV in his climate-controlled owner’s suite. Bills also dismissed obstructed-view seating complaints saying any stadium which will also be used for concerts will have obstructed views. That’s a crock. The Licht House doesn’t have obstructed views (there are some) like the Bills’ new crib. You don’t hear people whining about newish stadiums in Arizona or Dallas or Los Angeles or Las Vegas or Minnesota or Santa Clara having obstructed views. Face it: Taxpayers in New York got completely shafted but Pegula will make untold millions more off his new playpen. [Rochester Democrat and Chronicle]

With Kirk Herbstreit entering the final year of his contract with Amazon and the uncertain mess with Tony Romo at CBS, it appears there is a chance Greg Olsen finally gets his No. 1 NFL analyst deal with either Amazon or CBS. [Front Office Sports]

Scott Van Pelt decries preseason rankings. Why? Surely Van Pelt, a smart guy, knows preseason rankings have been around since the Korean War and exists for one reason: to gin up interest in the game. This isn’t rocket science. Really, how many teams have been screwed by preseason rankings? Seriously? Especially now with a 12-team playoff, who exactly is getting hosed by preseason rankings? Maybe 1969 Penn State? Maybe. But you have to step back inside the wayback machine to find a possible victim. Wasn’t Indiana No. 20 in last year’s preseason rankings? So how did they get to the playoffs? They won the B1G and went undefeated. You still have to prove it on the field. Getting rid of preseason rankings is akin to forbidding BSPN to talk about college football until Week 1. Surely Van Pelt wouldn’t agree to that, would he? To the best of Joe’s knowledge, only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo has a set calendar when you can and cannot talk specific sports. No football chatter until September and even then, only for background until the World Series is over. This is such a dumb argument. Van Pelt should know better. [Awful Announcing]
